QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) By the way, Mark Buehrle is an ace. Maybe I should bring my magic to the Catch-all anything thread and push this puppy to 250 pages tonight.

They'd be weary of trading Milledge straight up for Contreras, I doubt they'd throw in a good young pitcher along with him . . . of course it is the Mets, so you never know.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) The question was asked whether Buehrle was in the top 5-7 pitchers in the AL? When someone said he was, then (professor) rock asked if he was better than Pettitte, Clemen, Peavy. It's impossible to keep track of who is responding to what.
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) he asked if Buehrle was better duh. pay no attention.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) Well the argument was that Mark was better than those guys, including some other Cy Young winners. Then it went to that Mark was better than them because they only had 1 or 2 good years. Then it was Mark is the better pitcher in the playoffs. Then it was ERA doesnt matter. Wins and intangibles are all that matters.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) BTW...Clemens, Pettitte and Peavy are in the NL! Point being?
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) Santana, Halladay? no Clemens, Pettite? yes. Santana, Halladay? yes. Clemens? possibly Pettite? not for long
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) he is definately top 10 in the AL, possibly in the top 5-7. i would consider that an ace. Keep it going baby.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) Mark Buehrle is not an ace.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) Kalpse, you have created a monster..... That was the idea.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) I said post season. 48G, 151AB, 9HR, 24RBI, 52BB, 26SO, .245/.433/.503/.936

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) Buerhle might not be the most dominant in the league. But he is the most consistent. Other than Santana stats wise. Buehrle has been however the most consistant innings and health wise.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) I am ready to back up my words. Rock, Kyle, etc., said that I am not a lawyer, and that I don't have the credentials to back up my claim. I said let's bet $1,000.00, Rock reluctantly said yes, now his "pussing out"! I'd say the bigger issue at hand would be you making an outlandish claim about a certain pitcher then saying it's "My own opinion" meaning you don't have to back it up with facts. This whole lawyer thing just strikes me as childish.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) Hey there Mr Pot... c'mere.. my friend kettle and you have a LOT in common... :rolly Wait, you mean saying that one player is better than or equal to every other player at his position in MLB and then backing up his statement not with stats or fact but with conjecture is somehow hypocritical?
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) I keep waiting for someone to come up with Barry Bonds career post season stats. Bonds' career WS numbers are just ridiculous. 7G, 17AB, 4HR, 6RBI, 13BB/3SO, .471/.700/1.294 So when on the grandest stage Bonds sure does produce nicely.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) Hehe... Haha, didn't even notice that he mentioned Vlad's name. You'd figure someone who supposidly watches Sox games would have seen him lay a massive egg in the playoffs last year.
-
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) Then bet me!!! BTW, dob 01/01/1962!!! Why does everything become a bet?
-
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) I said I don't have access to the stats like you do...I stand corrected. (At least I am man enough to admit my mistakes.) What about Dye? How about Manny Ramirez? Better than Bonds? If you don't have access to stats then why did you say with great certainty that those player had better numbers than Bonds?

Why would anyone have a 29 year old loser Cubs' fan as his idol?
-
Why can't there ever be just a thread that makes it to 200 posts filled with good discussion and the exchange of opinions while leaving out personal attacks and childish name calling?
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) I believe it's spelled Molotov, after the Russian Foreign Minister in the 30's-40's. Once again...Betting is open on number of posts after this one before this thread is closed! We're at 193 right now and I'm surprised its got this far, I say 220. Frankly, I love this thread and pray that it will never be closed.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) So then ask me to compare Barry Bonds with Ichiro. They are outfielders who played in a WS. When did Ichiro play in the World Series?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) Mark Buehrle is not an ace. I rock.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) WTF, Mulder has more wins over the past 5 years than Buehrle and is a damn good stopper, I've never heard a bad thing about him clubhouse wise and he's even started the all star game. In your world Mulder >>> Buehrle.
-
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) Mark Mulder is a great pitcher, I'd love to have him on my team. Statistically he's better, so I guess in your book, Mulder's better. There are intangibles that need to be considered that don't necessarily show up on stat sheets. MB is a great defensive pitcher. He's a leader, a great clubhouse guy, and a "stopper". WTF, Mulder has more wins over the past 5 years than Buehrle and is a damn good stopper, I've never heard a bad thing about him clubhouse wise and he's even started the all star game. In your world Mulder >>> Buehrle.
