  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 29, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) Another first-round draft bust for those of you in love with baseball's draft. I forgot you would rather win a few more games in 2007 and not have Gordon Beckham.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) Its Dayn Perry, who is the second worst sports columnist I've ever read (behind the jackass that the Sun-Times fired a while back). I'd expect nothing else. Look at his moronic cubs trade for Roberts.
  3. Who cares what he did academically. If I was asking him to balance a quadratic equation, sure. If I was asking him to document a dna sequence, sure. If I was asking him to operate on me, sure. But the last time I checked, throwing a ball through a hoop doesn't require a certain SAT score. And thats his job.
  4. He is coming sooner than later. If the plan was to keep him down, he would be in AA playing with the new core. The only reason he is in AAA is to play 3rd. And the only reason for that is the Fields struggle. The minute they moved him up, started a clock that only the braintrust knows. He is coming.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) So why do we let their missiles through (I refer you to the event of the U.S. grabbing a ship loaded with North Korean missiles bound for Yemen a few years ago and then letting the ship pass through to its destination after protests from the Yemeni government.) Because North Korea thinks that seizing their ships is an act of war. North Korea not so happy with seizing of ships.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 27, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) There are no real implications that Kim Il-Jong will actually use a nuclear weapon. (Damn posted before I was done) My guess is that they want it for "deterrence" in that if they have one other countries are less likely to invade for fear of atomic reprisal. Nukes arent that great for offense unless you have a lot of them. If NK nuked some one it would kill a lot of people, but also be the end of NK, so not sure why they would do that for no reason. Second, Im not always sure that "if people see how others live" theyll immediately change. North Vietnam was well aware of how South Vietnam lived (to the point where thousands if not millions starved to death in NK because of rice not being shipped in large enough amounts from the South to North), but at the end of the day they preferred communism, because it was the communists who had fought off the west and gained Vietnam's independence, not the democrats. Im not that familiar with Korea's history. So I am not going to sit here thousands of miles away and believe that my way of live is better and that all that it takes is people to see it and theyll change. My way of life is 1 way, maybe not the best, maybe not the worst. The problem is not deterrence. Its the fact that they like to develop a technology and then sell it and the expertise for profit. Their missiles seem to be a hit in certain middle east countries. How much do you think certain countries/terrorists would play them for a workable product, or even some of those hard to get/make subsets of one.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) Anderson's going to pretend like he's facing the Mariners if he gets up to bat. Wilson Betemit the pinch hitter you mean. Ozzie isnt letting him face Fuentes. Wise sure, but this is brian. Holy crap he is letting him him.
  8. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) He'll give up 8 in his next outing. Weaver is a good pitcher. But what he does to us is beyond good.
  9. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:53 PM) floyd with a good outing. one bad inning, but 8IP 3ER and 8K is great in my book. too bad he faced god tonight.
  10. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:50 PM) Looks like we have ourselves an epic battle with Seattle going for the least amount of runs scored in the AL. Currently... Sox: 189 Seattle: 186 How exciting. Thats with a 17 spot the other night.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) Yes, although it's certainly not a great start...but then again, Gavin probably still has an extra inning or two in him. If he gets in trouble again I assume they'll go to the pen. If a starting pitcher goes 6 or more innings and gives up 3 or less he did his job. The problem is that our offense believes that Weaver is the best pitcher in the history of baseball. We have scored 2 runs total against him. He makes Johan look like trash against us.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:33 PM) If it makes anyone feel better, Peavy had a similar blow-up today to what Gavin did. Damn Brian, you're going to open the door for DWise. 3 runs over 6 innings is still a QS correct.
  13. Weaver is the best pitcher in the history of baseball when he faces us. His numbers are better than Johan against us.
  14. First Kyyle gets promoted to mod, now its his birthday. Whats next. Its a conspiracy. Milk, meh. Juddling you are alright. Sorry you have to share your birthday with the likes of the above for-mentioned chat types. Happy Birthday guys.
  15. Rachel Nichols is a goblin compared to Erin Andrews.
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) Dear Kenny Williams... Please demote Josh Fields and call up Andy Phillips. It's not even a matter of winning, just stop the embarrassment of having Fields out there everyday. What is your love affair for Andy Phillips. He sucks. The only thing you accomplish by bringing him up, is making your problem at 3rd base a few years older.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) I HIGHLY doubt Peavy accepts a trade to us. Neither does most Padres fans. Bags of money will sway him. Making that 4 mill into something real is going to make this happen.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) BTW, how is it I've scrolled through this thread and not yet seen any photos of Jake Peavy photoshopped into a Sox uniform? I blame Kalapse.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:29 AM) The Score is indeed reporting the deal is done pending Peavy approval, no mention of players at all. It makes sense. The division is crap and we have played our worst baseball. Kenny smells blood and thinks he can win this division again. In a short series. Peavy, Danks, and Buerhle is deadly.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:25 AM) Wait, did we just go from Bailey for Dye to Peavy for Dye? Why would the Padres take an aging RF when they're trying to rebuild? Expiring contact that they can in turn flip easily for more prospects in about another month.
  21. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:25 AM) san digeo beat writer said that if peavy was to be traded, giles would have come with. Update had nothing on players other on pending deal waiting on him waiving his no trade The Padres are at a crossroads with salary. They need to turn these players into young cheap talent. Moving Giles with it, would lessen the impact coming back to the Pads.
  22. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:23 AM) if its poreda and richard, i'd have to guess that the PTBNLs would not be Beckham, Flowers, Viciedo, Danks,....i would guess one could in the class of Shelby, Retherford, Morel, etc. Its also possible one of Nix, Getz, Lillibridge go, or Anderson go. The PTBNL are probably a pool of secondary type talent. Select from this pool based on a bit more playing time. Its not going to be Beckham, Flowers, Viciedo, or Danks.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) I agree, both look fixable and I think its more a confidence, tempo, minor adjustment to the mechanics type of deal (and I haven't seen anything glaringly wrong with either's mechanics). I wouldn't be shocked though if they did have a bit of an up and down year just given last years workload and the enormous expectations on both of there shoulders. Still, long term, I like them both a lot and I still think Floyd ends up having a big time second half of the season, but it might be all meaningless. The one thing I have seen this year is how he approaches his breaking pitches. Last year he had a slow yacker that had a lot of depth to it and threw it a lot. This year it looks like he sped up the pace on it. He has a tighter rotation, yet he starts it out low in the zone, and it bottoms out before it can appear hittable. Once he gets behind, he abandons it and then goes to his fastball and gets rocked. He needs to attack the zone more, use his big hook to offset his fastball and then use his slider with 2 strikes to wipe out the right handers.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) Coop, I hope you can get them both back on track cause they are a huge part of this franchises future and if they flop, this team is in serious freaking trouble (not just this year, but more specifically long term). It looks fixable for both. Their stuff passes the eye test. The same tilt, same bite, same movement. Bad location and getting behind is catching both of them. The key is to attack the zone. Maybe it was here, or maybe it was on cheats site. But there was someone who brought up the fact that according to pitch track data, Gavin was up in velocity. Maybe he is doing something with his mechanics differently, or he is getting too amped up and sacrificing location. The biggest thing is to make sure that they both keep their heads in it. And they start to attack the zone.
  25. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) So can someone PLEASE explain to me why Lillibridge is still on this team? What does he bring to this team? Why do we accept failure and under performing? 1) Comedy High Jinx 2.) Half price meals on Tuesday for kids 12 and under. 3.) Part time Narc 4.) Bat boy
