  1. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) what!? 23 homers and 67 rbi's in half a season isn't an offensive presence!? Sure, he has work to do with K's, walks, OBP, AVG, etc... but those are things he can improve on vs. MLB pitching. It's tough to improve on those things in AAA when you have already mastered that level of play. I would not be surprised if we have ruined Josh Fields future in the majors. All it takes is one year to completely ruin a players development and mental approach to the game, and this could be that year. Sitting in AAA wont ruin Josh. I dont think it will do anything for him to adjust to major league pitching. I think we will retard his growth for a few months as he has to readjust to pitchers not named Felix Diaz.
  2. QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) why is rebuilding such a bad word to this ownership? Last year when the sox had the entire fanbase livid, that was the opportunity to cut some vets and rebuild some. That ship has sailed. We have emptied the minors, to go for it. We have to follow this as far as we can now.
  3. QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) if BA isn't the centerfielder i am going to be royally pissed. I'm already mad about fields, this would just make things a bit unbearable. Anderson is not a track star, so he cannot be our leadoff guy, so he will be traded or a 4th OF on this team. My prediction Against Righties Owens CF Cabrera SS Thome DH Konkero 1B Dye RF Swisher LF AJ C Crede 3B Uribe 2B Against Lefties Ozuna 2B Cabrera SS Swisher LF Konerko 1B Thome DH Dye RF Crede 3B AJ/Hall C Owens CF
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) Bourgeois, Carrasco, and Phillips also cut. Looks like we have a deadweight back-up catcher again. Can't wait to see our mighty atttack against the lefties this year.
  5. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) Over-under on the amount of games needed for KW to swallow his pride and jettison Crede and benchOwens in favor of Fields and Quentin? 50? I am going with Over. Think of 06 when Pods lead off over and over and over even though he was pathetic in the field and with the stick. He couldnt steal, and was basically a backwards K walking up to the plate.
  6. QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) over in BA, under in obp, under in slugging.... ill say .240/.280/.340 Better yet, predict Owens
  7. QUOTE(Wanne @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) Nicely said wsf...pretty much sums up how I feel as well. As much as I'd like to see Joe do well for the team's sake...that's how you have to look at it...what's best for the team in the long run and if sending Josh down to work on his D as well as hitting fastballs and he improves...it's all good in the long run since he's the 3B of the future for this team. My personal choice though would have been JF at the corner. If Joe's not producing at the plate...this team will need all the offensive support it can get and Josh is a better fit. He will be a master of crushing 90 to 91 mph fastballs that are featured in the International League. However when he faces a guy throwing 94 to 95 in the American League he will have a problem still catching up. If anyone thinks that he will learn a whole bunch facing Felix Diaz, Phillips and company down in AAA they have another thing coming.
  8. Well the score just announced that Josh Fields has been sent down to AAA.
  9. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Supposedly he failed the first one, but I have also read that the first "doctor" who administrated the 1st polygraph doesn't even have a fully credited PHd. Also, they only said "deception" was present. Deception in what? Also, reverse speech has found there to be no "deception" with Larry Sinclair and that he is telling the truth, and that Obama has been the one lying... http://www.reversespeech.com/sinclairpoly.htm Plus, why haven't the results of the 2nd polygraph been released? Now at least we know what the Ron Paul supporters are up to. They are making Youtube videos. I don't like Obama, but this is such an obvious crazy claim. If you lend credence to this type of stupidity then you are in line with the slobs like Rosie who think that 9/11 was a inside job due to some video called Loose Change.
  10. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) How about him for a 5th starter? Claudio Vargas-S-Brewers Mar. 25 - 2:44 pm et Brewers released RHP Claudio Vargas. Bizarre. Vargas entered spring training looking like a long shot to win a spot in the Milwaukee rotation, but he had a 3.86 ERA in his five starts and it had seemed to be a given that he'd be in the rotation with both Yovani Gallardo and Chris Capuano out. At the very least, the Brewers figured to be able to trade him thanks to his strong spring. His $3.6 million salary proved to be too much of a hindrance apparently. Expect the Astros, Mets and others to pursue him once he clears waivers. Both Carlos Villanueva and Manny Parra will have rotation spots now. He had a 5 ERA in the NL. Forget it.
  11. QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) He's 6-foot-6? That screams lotta walks to me. Height has nothing to do with control. Stop comparing every tall guy to Sisco.
  12. Official Mascot of the Soxtalk drunk thread
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) Asking for or expecting Owens to hit in that area is pretty crazy unless he's become a much better bunter than we've seen so far. I think that personally, for Owens to be effective, I want to see him pretty much put up numbers similar to Podsednik in 05. Hardly any home runs, but keeps his average around .300, keeping that OBP at about .350 or above, and on pace for about 70 or so steals at a high percentage. If he could put up those numbers, he won't be the greatest player in MLB, but he'd be pretty darn effective at what he was doing and it would make our team better. The more he drops below those numbers, the less playing time he deserves. I would be shocked if he hits above .275 with a .325OBP. And with that he will steal 50 bases and Ozzie will gush over him. This is a guy who barely hit the ball out of the infield last year. He had 95 hits, and for all that speed he only had 12XBH. Thats pathetic. A speed guy should be able to stretch a single into a double from time to time. Or hit one in the gapper and leg it out. But not Mr. Owens. He barely hit the ball back to the pitcher and used his speed to run it out. Great. If he doesnt get on base at at .350 he is worthless. No matter how fast he is.
  14. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 05:23 PM) Sox hit lefties better than righties last year. The maximum # of lefties we'll ever have starting against a lefty is 3, probably 2 on average. How do Konerko, Dye, Swisher, Cabrera, Fields/Crede, Anderson/Quentin, Uribe do against lefties? Generally great to not-bad. Fields(.321 against lefties) and either Quentin and or Anderson will be in AAA this year. Ozzie wants to start Owens against lefties as well. He will be down in the order, but in the lineup.
  15. QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) You would think that the great Greg Walker could teach these guys to hit leftys at least a little bit. Or is the great Greg part of the problem? My opinion on the subject is pretty well known on this. Having a guy like Fields who hits lefties well, sitting in AAA doesnt help. But we keep introducing new personnel and we keep on seeing the same results. Lets see what happens this year.
  16. Wow shocking, a lefty mauling us. The team is ready for the season.
  17. On one of the radio broadcasts, they said that a 2 year old dressed in their sunday best got hit with the fake blood and started to bawl. Classy.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 02:01 PM) The chicagosports article stated Owens would bat 9th vs lefties......yuck! Wow 2 bantam weight speedsters with Owens and Pablo in the lineup. How craptacular.
  19. QUOTE(flavum @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) The boxscore has Bourgeois under Guillen's name, so Hughes may have had it wrong. Game ended 8-8. Whoopti whoop. Check it again. Oney was in as the pinch runner, but Bourgeois was the fielder. Its funny that he was drafted at all.
  20. QUOTE(flavum @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 06:06 PM) Oney is playing 3rd base. This is on par with Billy Crystal's at bat. Dye now losing a ball in the sun. This after the "hit" that went under Oney's glove to start the inning.
  21. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) If U.S. Cellular is your Chicago-land area cellphone service provider, your in for a surprise. Enclosed in the bill we received today was a coupon for 4 vouchers for 4 free White Sox home game tickets to pick up at the nearest U.S. Cellular store. The vouchers are for any game in the Upper Reserved sections in April or May. Games excluded are Opening Day, the New York Series, and any Monday. The series' that you would be able to see are Angels, Tigers, Twins, Indians, A's, and Orioles. Great promotion by U.S. Cellular. We use US Cellular for our mobile service at work. My co-workers who are not sox fans, are going to get the tickets for me so I am going to a bunch of games for Free the first 2 months.
  22. Oney Guillen into pinch run for Crede. Too bad we couldn't have Carrie Schuler on the roster as well, she hits about as good as Oney does.
  23. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) Who just gave up the lead? Boone Logan.
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 05:40 PM) Dont let him tease you, he'll be swinging from his heels in a week. Well last spring he hit .286 and he hit .313 in 06 in spring training. How did that translate to his season. He hit fine, going the other way. Then the minute the bell rang, he swung for the fences on every pitch.
  25. QUOTE(sf_soxfan @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) ...and recovering from major arm surgery I wonder which Ronny would give better baseball insight right now. Woo or Santo.
