According to Santo Javy is 36 years old. Well in 5 years he will be 36, but keep up the good work Ronny. -
Say "Hi!" to ARow, Drop off Crede, Pick up Cain
southsideirish71 replied to knightni's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) Don't compare Josh Fields with Adam Dunn. Adam Dunn has a career OBP of .381 which happens to be Nick Swisher's career high, and Swisher will get on base a lot more than Fields. So let me get this straight. Fields bad because of low OBP and high strikeouts, for a kid who has less than 500ABs and has 23 home runs playing a position cheap for the next 4 to 5 years. Yet a free swinging low OBP all or nothing player like Uribe is good, because you think he can finally get it all together because its hit walk season. How does one guy have potential after being in the league for years, and then the other guy not so good. Not dont get me wrong I would like to see him get rid of that hitch he has on the high fastball, that should account for him cutting down his strikeouts. But a guy who can hit a curveball and hit lefties would be valuable on this team. Unless you like to witness Cy Lefties with medicore stuff shutting us down all season long. -
QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 12:43 AM) People are quick to forget the great things players did in the past. That 9th inning in Houston, Uribe made 2 of the finest plays you'll ever see a player make, and did it on the biggest stage in sports. For that, I'll always have fond memories of him, and any real Sox fan should feel the same. Pods hit a game winning home run, Blumm hit a great clutch homer, Willie Harris scored the winning run. All great things, and clutch at the time. I have that forever on my WS DVD. On the other hand, I don't want any of them on the 2008 white sox. Its one thing to be sentimental, but some people get so attached that think that they can rekindle the magic over and over.

Would JR ever say this???
southsideirish71 replied to jasonxctf's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) so would JR ever open the books for everyone to look at and examine? Who exactly are you to ask them to open their books up. This is not a publicly traded firm, that has shareholders. This is a private entity that is run by a group of investors. The money and everything from the team is between them and the IRS. How the f*** is this still being being brought up, we have a 100+ million dollar payroll. Its not like we are the marlins, we have a s***load of money invested into this team. THe owner who has brought 7 championships to this town mind you gets all these cracks on how cheap he is. Stop parroting a marriotti article and apply some logic. Teams that dont draw 3 million fans, and still have a 100 million dollar payroll are not cheap. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) How does everyone know Ramirez isn't the same way? Maybe he does, then again we know for a fact that once the bell rings, Profundo will be swinging for the Dan Ryan bringing a sub 300 OBP, and a BA somewhere in the 220s to the 240s. While his peripherals have been decreasing, his weight has been increasing. The sox were so sour on him, that they traded their top trading chip and picked up his replacement.

QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) Could it be that the team just put him on waivers to gauge other teams interest? And that we all got excited over nothing because in 3 days the Sox will revoke the waivers and he'll still be on the roster? So you have whitesox.com, the announcers for your tv broadcast, your flagship radio station, and just about every news outlet turning this story. You have people contacting the player and the agent, for a fishing trip. I doubt it. If its this open, and they havent openly refuted it either publicly or by telling Cowely directly as an unamed source. I mean how do you do that, then welcome the player back with open arms.
-
Well for your comedy hour, Mr Joe Cowely was on the score all sad due to the impending Uribe exit. He stated when asked about a possible replacement. Well they could get Mark Ellis, but he isnt an upgrade from Uribe. I would suggest that Mr. Cowely take a few minutes to actually look up who Ellis is before he decides to make stupid comments like that.
-
QUOTE(wsgdf_2 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 07:25 PM) Cowley was on the score about an hour ago. He spoke to Uribe tonight and Uribe told him he's headed to Phoenix with the team tomorrow... so if he's been cut, I guess he's going to start stalking them. Uribe told Cowley that neither KW or Ozzie said anything to him today about waivers. Cowely is hardly a source to take credibly. They don't have to talk to Uribe or his agent. The waiver is not a public thing that they openly discuss with everyone. I have a hard time believing that this would be such a crazy story on all the stations, and up on whitesox.com without any shred of truth to it. They would of immediately have come back with a comment that it isnt true. Zach asked Cowley about who would replace him. He kept on repeating how shocked he was about the move, and it doesnt make sense. Cowely also stated in the same speech that getting a Mark Ellis is a lateral move and doesnt improve from Uribe at all. Mark Ellis who had an OPS+ of 110 last year, hit .276 and had a OBP of .336. These number pretty much crush Uribe's numbers and he also hit 19 dongs playing in a much larger park.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) Well, Levine supposedly stated this. He didn't just make it up. Bruce is as accurate as carpet bombing.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) So now it's 48 Hour waivers. This just keeps getting more confusing. Taking any information that any cub fan posts on any board is asking for trouble. They think that baseball was a game that originated in a large outdoor stinky bar, and that tubs are for urination. They don't know the rules, and barely are sober enough to know who is on first.

Pods Returns, Let the Celebration Begin!
southsideirish71 replied to knightni's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) And let's keep in mind...Ubaldo Jiminez is on the mound for Colorado. He has a moderately good arm. Thats what makes Ramirez's first inning jack more impressive. He most likely caught up with some serious heat. -
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Yeah, something's up. Fields was just pulled in the 1st inning of today's game for a pinch runner. He was HBP.

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) get bent out of shape over bad longterm contracts lets not get bent out of shape over Crede and Uribe who come off the books after this year. it's JR's money, it's monopoly money, who cares. Other things I would rather do with the 4.1 million dollars. I would of rather have taken some of that monopoly money and used it to spice our slot allocation for the 08 draft. I would of rather have used it for an international signing. Used it to go over on a few guys later in the draft to entice from going to college. Money might not be a lot in the long run, but with our organization 4 mill is still 4 mill.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) The O's want him, they can have him A-ram is now our starting 2B with Richar as backup plan. This is of course if we didnt trade for Brian Roberts. Interesting angle by both you and Fathom. By DFAing Uribe we clear a roster spot.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) Boers & Bernstein confirm he's been DFA'd. Alexei Ramirez must be the starting 2B now... Okay I like the idea of Ramirez or Richar being the starter. Great. Hopefully they can trade Uribe to someone and get some salary relief. I can't see them just eating the salary.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) oh boy I cant wait for SSI71's snacks and cakes post I don't like him, but getting rid of him for nothing is stupid. Now to appease Kyyle's call for blood. Unless he injured half the team running to the buffet table for the snacks and cakes call.
-
QUOTE(flavum @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) Boers and Bernstein are trying to confirm that Juan Uribe has been released. That would be dumb. And I dont like Uribe. You are already paying him lots of money to play here. Whats the point of releasing him.

QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) The reason I said cocky was the fact I met him the night before Soxfest began. I was inside the private party at ESPN Zone, and met all the players and coaches. Jerry Owens refused to sign autographs until he finished eating, but all the other players signed and took pictures while they ate. Then afterwards I asked for his autograph and photo and he was like "yah but lets hurry it up," then before I could get a picture he sidetracked to talk to Greg Walker. Maybe I just had a bad experience with him, but he comes off as cocky and a jerk...to me atleast. If you want autographs go to soxfest and wait in line, go to a special autograph event, or go to spring training. Getting upset because while he was eating you came up and bothered him for a signature doesnt seem that logical. I am sure that when you are sitting down for a nice meal, and the doorbell rings and a Jehovah's witness starts to give you a spiel that you are in the best of moods.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) Ok, so I just wasted several minutes of my life reading through this entire s***storm. This thread is like every negative poster on Soxtalk's wet dream. Why is it that some people actually enjoy when the organization does something they disagree with so they have a chance to tell everyone else how much smarter they are than the general manager? As much as all the pro-Fields people want to poke fun at "Crede's Crew," and facetiously compare Joe to Brooks Robinson, one would think Josh Fields was David Wright or Ryan Braun. The world will not end if Josh has to go to Charlotte for a few hundred ab's, guys. Just like the world will not end if Joe is traded to SF or LAD. But wow, why do some of you even watch the team or read the newspaper if it makes you so damned miserable? Some of you are incredibly-gifted whiners. You know what, I am sick of these "dark cloud" type posts when something that someone says doesn't jive with your view or the views of the see no evil crew. How the hell is anything of what I said negative. There are 2 baseball players competing for one position. I have an opinion, my personal opinion, that Josh would be better at it for the short and long term and would give the sox a better chance of winning. And thats what I want, the sox to win. I also would rather have Quentin or Anderson playing and Owens not, so I guess that makes me miserable as well. This is a message board. These threads are here to invite debate, sometimes lively and definitely sometimes over the top. These are individual opinions. Nothing that is said here means anything in the real world. It is just lively discussion and banter. In the end if Joe plays it isnt the end of the world. But I would rather see what Josh can do over the course of a long season. Who knows he could be great, and then he could be bad.
-
QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) Not to start anything over Adam Dunne, but I bet if you find a Reds board there are a hundred fans complaining about him and how he should of been traded to years ago, now his big salary his hindering there chances of signing another starting pitcher or the development of some AAA player Using a message boards opinion as a barometer of a players value is slightly askew logic at best. Go to a Yankees board, you will see a thread talking about getting rid of that bum Arod.
-
Owens is pretty much a nice guy all around. I don't want him to start, but thats for more of the fact that I question if he can get on base enough to be effective. But to say he is anything but a nice guy is way off base.
-
QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) Well he plays on that team doesn't he? I would not want him on the Sox. His K's are a killer in the middle of that lineup. So is the reason that the sox didnt repeat in 06, Thome's fault. He Ks a lot as well.
-
QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) Scott Boras is in the business of negotiating, as is KW. If they cannot or refuse to do it over personal reasons they will both be fired. To say a deal cannot be made is ridiculous, that's what these guys do. Scott is in the business of making as much money for as many years for his players. If you think he is in the business of negotiating for a sweet deal then I suggest giving reality a try. Scott peddles his players in the offseason, from highest value to lowest. He pits one team against the other, and gets the most money and most years. The only ones that get sweetheart deals, or those scraps left over like a Kyle Lohse or a Jeff Weaver. They get a one year deal in the hopes that they will rekindle their value. If Joe hit 20 or more home runs, and hits .260 or above with good defense Scott will be looking for a jackpot. He will peddle him and build him up even more than Crede's crew.
-
QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) If he comes in and proves himself healthy, I would give him 4 years 30 million. That's 7.5 per year. Good deal on both sides. Sure thats the way Scott Boras works. A nice equitable deal for both parties. Think higher salary, and for more years. Thats what Joe and Scott will want.
