  1. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) That's always apossibility. Or we can sign Crede, send Fields down to learn to play 1B or trade Thome and put Fields in at DH Again, more Crede fanboys and their everquest to move everyone on the team around just to keep their player. Lets trade Konerko, Thome, Fields so we can keep a guy coming off injury who has Boras as his client. Makes sense.
  2. Happy Birthday Molto. Happy Birthday Flash.
  3. QUOTE(BFirebird @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) No. But yes Alexi has speed. He had a stand up triple the other day without even an attempt of a throw. He would of had an inside the park HR if Gathright was slower or bobbled the ball. SoxFan1 beat me to it. But yeah, not sure on his base stealing abilities. I f***ed up my Uribe comment, it was supposed to be Does Uribe like seconds? Alexei is fast. Hopefully they can work with him on his defense, and see how his ST numbers project to the season.
  4. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) Not sure what kind of screen you've got, but I take a very soft cloth (normally a clean t-shirt), wet it with warm water (not too much, obviously you don't want to be dripping water onto your keyboard), and then gently clean it. Don't push too hard but if you are persistent you can get everything off. Refresh the water so that it's always warm water in contact with the screen. I get fairly bad buildup so I clean it like this every few months and it works. I avoid (perhaps unnecessarily) using chemicals to clean it, though I'm sure there are some commercially available. Perfect. I use a microfiber cloth I picked up at Jewel that works as well for less than 5 dollars for 3 microfiber sheets. The chemicals are a good way to ruin your laptop. Especially on the glossy screens.
  5. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) Does Alexi have any speed?? Does Uribe pass up seconds?
  6. I like seeing the doubles, it shows more gap to gap hitting which is what I like. The homers will come, hitting line drives, and gap to gap is what this team needs to do to be a force this year. With our park we dont need to try and hit homers. Hitting like this, may stop the low and away attack pitchers have put up against us. Its a great start, hopefully they can keep it up.
  7. As a republican this is great. The best result would be if Obama comes out with more delegates. Michigan and Florida are not seated, and Clinton uses the superdelegates to topple the will of the dem party. That would clear a way for McCain to the whitehouse. I am still amazed on how goofy liberal Clinton, the wife of the man who was weak on defense for 8 years, is now a tough person you want in a time of war. Maybe she can learn from her husband and blow up a tent in the middle of the desert with a 2 million dollar Tomahawk Cruise Missle. Her on the job training was sleeping next to the president for 8 years. Maybe she received the knowledge via Osmosis.
  8. YES!!!!! Thank you WhiteSox. ESPN hired Singleton for BBTN and then he resigned from the radio.
  9. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) If the Sox trade Crede just for the sake of doing it I say shame on KW. Lowry is not equal to Crede. I think we need to keep Joe and also Fields who could step in for Konerko or Thome in a year or so. Think future here. I love the delicious irony of someone who is trying to move players under control for more than this year, for the sake of a player who is a FA and has boras as his agent. Keeping thinking of that future.
  10. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) Cubs don't seem to want the guy. The Sox could use another starter arm. Marquis making too much you think? I would rather have snacks and cakes pitch for his 4.5 mill than throw that gas can from the North side over here for 8 mil.
  11. Hi I am French and a moron. 9-11 was a large insurance scam. The moon landing was a fake
  12. Pre-ordered Rainbow Six LS 2. I am sick of the damn helicopters and airstrikes every 10 seconds on the COD matches. Some dufus gets 5 kills in a row, then ducks and hides for the match while his automated robot army kills everything in site. Graphics are cool, but I want to go back to something that is more of a shooter.
  13. QUOTE(ROC Sox Fan @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) Hawk talking to Greg Walker now. Is he talking about how cold it is in Arizona. Lefties are the devil you know.
  14. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Not sure about the gun, but Danks has been around 93-96. Magoo on the Royals Radio is using the words sneaky fast.
  15. The guy doing the Royals side on the radio sounds like Mr. Magoo.
  16. QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) Or he is trying recreate the White Sox offense when the team was winning. In 05 and 06 the team was winning and this was the type of offense he had. It's the type of offense that won when he was with the Marlins. They are probably going by experience. Pitching was the key of course and they are trying to build the same type of team. Good rotation, bullpen and defense with an adequate offense. We've has these discussions before and you can continue to complain about it because they will keep doing it. They've won a heck of alot more games than they've lost using this concept. In 05 we won because of great pitching and an offense that got hot at the very end of the year. Outside of that in 05 the offense was bad. In the first part of 06 we hit the crap out of the ball, and in the 2nd part of 06 Pods was lost in groin-injurville. In 06 we had a good offense because Thome and company were crushing the ball and hitting everything. Not because Pods was stealing bases.
  17. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) Jeff Kent was a 2b who went to 3b and then to 1b, then back to 2b. It's been done. 2b is a lot easier than 3b imo. Okay, poof he is our 2nd baseman. Who is manning 3rd base after this year. Thats the issue at hand.
  18. I am in suspense of the next position that people will move Fields to in an order to keep Joe Crede. I think catcher will be next. I wonder the amount of teeth nashing that will happen when reality sets in and Boras takes Crede to the bank. I should buy the domain savejoecrede.com. Lots of money to be made on this one.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) While it really shouldn't be surprising, the OF situation is quite puzzling. On December 3rd, Quentin was acquired by using Chris Carter, the real only quality positional prospect in the Sox system. One month later, what was left of the Sox system was traded away for Nick Swisher. Two months later, with 4 ST games being played, apparently Jerry Owens, a player that was on the roster for most of the 2007 season is considered the favorite for an OF spot, with Swisher taking the other one. So what happened in those two months? Did the Sox not do their homework on Quentin, and didn't know what they were getting, or was it just a short sided move on there part, because with the holes that still remain on this club, did the Sox just trade away a solid spec in Carter for what they feel is a 4th OF? I'm not saying that because Carter was traded for Quentin he has to start, but what has Carlos really done to all the sudden be behind Owens? What has Jerry done to jump in the lead for the LF spot? Kenny? This is Ozzie Guillen's footprint for this one, not Kennys. Sure Ozzie spoke of OBP but when its all said and done he wants a speedster ala Pods and Ala Pierre. If he viewed OBP as a valuable commodity Mr. Owens wouldnt be on the team right now. Ozzie wants his prototypical bantam weight track star. Look at all to goo about Owens by Ozzie already. Camp is only 2 weeks old and he is gooing about how it would be great to have Owens as the leadoff guy. Now why would it be good to have him as the leadoff guy. Sure he is fast and can steal bases, but he sure as hell cant get on base enough to make a difference. We didnt learn a thing from last years Pods/Erstad deal. We still want 2 low OBP guys up on top because we are trying to recreate the Marlins offense. This is not the national league, you dont need some low OBP guy who is fast and can bunt. You need a guy who can get on base so the guys behind him can drive them in. Its amazing how quick it was for Ozzie to jump on the Uribe needs to be the starter, and now Owens needs to be the starter. Sounds like the 08 version of the Erstad trials. These battles were already figured out before Ozzie stepped foot in the Arizona sun. Uribe will be the 2nd baseman, and Owens and his miserable OBP will be choking our offense out as he gains most of his OBP from his batting average. Hope he hits about .340 then. He needs all the help he can get.
  20. Viral gastroenteritis sucks. The entire family went through it, I thought I was in the clear. However my entire day has been set praying to the porcelain god and his trusty friend Senior Garbage can. I haven't puked like this since my travels for work around the world. God this sucks.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) But, usually those happen later in games, so earlier in games guys do get to face some of the starters. Actually Balta its the opposite. Early on with the split squads and the large contingent you see a lot of scrubs after the first time through the order. Later on when they thin out the rosters a bit is when you see the starters going deeper into the games.
  22. My 3 1/2 year old just solved Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Xbox 360: Live Arcade. My wife was not as impressed as I was. He has also went through 3 levels on Ace Combat 6. His preschool told us to work on his fine motor skills they suggested cutting paper, I found a better outlet.
  23. This poem and song crap is a bit weird. This reminds me of the kids who decide for no apparent reason but to sing on xbox live. Playing a game and you hear screeching static-ky music and some high pitch yell.
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) On the other hand, can't it help some time? Let's say for example, that there's a 3rd baseman on the team who has a habit of popping the ball up badly. He comes up in the late innings one game, let's say the 10th inning, and you're resigned to losing. But you've noticed he does tend to hit the ball well in the clutch. Maybe his late inning numbers are better, maybe his close and late numbers are good, whatever. Suddenly he hits a home run to LF and Ken Harrelson's head explodes. In that case, how was thinking that this guy was clutch and has done this before a bad thing? One of my favorite stats to look into the day of a game, is how the individual matchups in the game. You see who has had success against what pitcher. Sure Joey Baseball only hits .235 with RISP close and late, but for some reason he owns Nathan and hits close to .400 against him. Thats the game within the game. This great pitcher can mow down the best of hitters but Joey Baseball owns him. So even though he isnt the allstar, he might as well be against Nathan. When it comes down to it, a great player has a .300 or better average. Which means that 70% of the time that player will fail. But that 30% always seem to happen at a good time, Its how you look at it. My favorite thing to do watching a game is to watch how the pitchers attack the zone. For me the data on pFX and some of the new pitching stats is going to be cool to review after a game. As a former pitcher I can see with my own two eyes how a pitcher attacks a hitter. You can see it with the gamechart and now with pFX you can see the break and other nuances to the pitch.
  25. I don't understand why this battle comes up all the time. Sabrmetrics is just a natural progression of the traditional stat based accounting that has been going on in this game from day one. This game has recorded every type of stat known to man over the history of the game. The only difference is, that Sabrmetricians have taken that data, and have come up with new formulas to make sense of it. Consider it new math versus old math. I was a traditionalist on this. I believe my own two eyes and what I saw on the field. Then after taking a look into it, I saw that some of the sabr formulas were backing up what I was seeing on the field. You can enjoy the game as much as you want. And you can dig into the lowest levels of trends as much as you want. Thats the beauty of the game to me. Sabr is part of baseball. Its what the GMs use to evaluate players. People also get bent out of shape of PECOTA and other speculation formulas. Thats what they are speculation. Its taking known material and making a statistical guess on what is going to happen. Its not an indictment of the player, or saying that they will definately do this. Its an educated guess based on the evidence laid forth. I don't use this to jail a player. Its just a way of saying well based on this, player X should midline at this. Now I can go to the ballpark, and still enjoy the guy taking the secondary lead and moving into 3rd instead of staying on first. I can watch the nuances of the outfield shift or the battles of the player setting up the pitcher, or the pitcher setting up the hitter. I can enjoy watching a mechanical flaw being exploited, or watch the perfect fluid swing take place. You can enjoy the game, and still enjoy the stats behind it. Now are stats perfect no. But what is. You look over the grind of a season and you should see the guy who goes 0 -4 with 4 screaming line drives outs with diving plays with wind up balancing out with the same guy going 4 for 4 with 4 duck farts that travel 93 feet. I have learned at lot about SABR from this site, from Keith and from Cheat over at southsidesox.com as well. To me learning about baseball or getting new ways to derive information from the evidence we see makes it more fun. But then again I look at packets all day looking for the bad ones for a living. So I am wierd.
