  1. Well look at the bright side, Pratt can start a thread. "I had fun at the cell" As long as some of the money that comes from them being there can be applied to the sox and their bottom line sure. I can imagine though the shock and horror when they pee on someone's lawn in Bridgeport and get their clock cleaned.
  2. QUOTE(CryptviLL @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) I love you all . I am very happy this moment.
  3. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) OC!!! wehat the hell is Uribe doing, held up BA His stomach froze him between 2nd and 3rd when the vendor yelled out "HOT DOG, get your RED HOT"
  4. Please let the radar police not show up until May at least for Jenks.
  5. QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) yeah i know i was just trying to portray that to the others who cant watch it ....i wasnt complaining about pitch selection I know you understand, but there will be a few mopes later on digging through the boxscore ripping Danks because they think these are real games. I want him for the first few starts to concentrate on the cutter. Then start to mix in his later pitches. He has to learn to pound righties in. Now sure, hitters know he is going to work inside and that he is featuring a new cutter. So they can cheat. In the later starts of spring training you look to see him mix his pitches up and start to progress a bit. The first 2 weeks of ST are just for fundamentals. Its glorified practice. Then you start to mix game situations more, and concentrate on making pitches, and hitting in situations. Then the last week you want to see them start to gel and get ready for gameplay.
  6. QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) danks is working solely with the fastball it looks like....as i say that he throws a change and holliday chops it to third, fields bare hands throws to first and pauly can't pick it....scored a hit and error with the runner going to third I was at a early spring training game where the guy was working on breaking pitches only for an inning. Not one ball over 85 mph was thrown.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) I hate Spring Training for the fact people get so caught up in actual performance. Nice to see you're still alive though. You want to see Danks work on his cutter, and practice pounding it in. Judging pitching in Tuscon is hard.
  8. QUOTE(ptatc @ Feb 26, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) I think I'm probably one of Crede's biggest fans because of his defense and decent hitting. I still think defense and pitching are the keys to winning. however, given the fact the Boras is the agent and the price he will command, I'm ready to begin the Fields era. Realism is more important than getting attached to a player. I am a White Sox and baseball fan. As much as you want to get attached to a player, the improvement of the team is the most important aspect. IMHO We all get attached to players. For me Robin Ventura, Jack McDowell and Frank Thomas were all players that I never thought would be anything but a player on the sox. Its hard, especially for the home grown products to watch them leave. In the end we will see players come and go. For every player lost, we will find another favorite player and a new hero. Its part of being a modern day baseball fan with free agency. You show realism and understand that even though you dont want the player to go, that they will.
  9. QUOTE(Haarold @ Feb 26, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) This organization had no problem trying to put him in LF last year. How hard would it be to start working him in at first. And who said anything about putting Crede at first? Do you know what is difficult, trying to convince the Crede's fanboys on this site that their guy is going to move. The evidence is overwhelming and the reasons to keep him are minimal at best. The amazing thing is the amount of moves that people have put in place to shuffle everyone around, like Crede is some central player that you build a team around. I love the fact that people gloss over the fact that Joe is represented by Scott Boras. The amazing amount of written history on the relationship between Boras and the whitesox should be enough to realize that a long term deal isnt going to happen unless Joe fires his agent. And why would he do that. He just went through an injury that scares him and his family and he wants to max out years and money just in case his back messes up again. You cant blame him. I shudder to think of the reaction to when Joe is moved. The fanboys will call into stations, ask for Kenny's head, and then hate on Josh Fields because their pet is moved. Kind of like the hate that Thome gets from the Rowand fan boys. I would suggest that you buy a 2005 WS DVD and keep it on infinite replay so you can enjoy Joe for the rest of your life. If you want to see him in the future, you may have to fly out to San Francisco. But look at the bright side, you can get a 2 for one crush treat there.
  10. QUOTE(shipps @ Feb 25, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) My favorite movies were Labyrinth with David Bowie,The Never Ending Story,The Goonies,Rookie of the Year,The Sandlot,Harry and the Hendersons,Short Circuit(Johnny number 5),Batteries Not Included,Little Shop of Horrors(ugh),Little Monster, and Boyz n the Hood to name a few. My favorite Tv shows were K.I.D.S Incorporated,Full House,Mr.Wizard,Eurekas Castle,Fraggle Rock,Shake Rattle and Roll,Fresh Prince,Simpsons,Blossom(loved Sixes booty)Woa,Double Dare,Candid Camera, and of course Saved By the Bell. I don't know. For me I like a lot of the stuff I grew up with as a kid even today. I cant say that there is anything that I can answer as a big miss today. In fact I have taken a fair amount of effort to obtain a lot of the cartoons and shows I grew up with for my children. I would rather my kids watch Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy, Scooby Doo, Captain Caveman, Fraggle Rock, the Tex Avery line and the rest over them watching some giggling pile of goo make sounds( Teletubbies), a large fat dinosaur (Barney), or adult men dressed up in colors singing to my kids ( the Wiggles). My son loves the older stuff and loves watching it. I have mixed in some Batman, Spiderman and the Superfriends recently and its been pretty cool watching him enjoy something I liked as a kid. I remember the enjoyment I had when I watched it, and now watching my son in particular love these cartoons is kind of cool.
  11. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 25, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) 100% true. Defense is highly underated on this board. With Sox starting pitching a huge question mark its imperative to have as many above average defenders on the field as possible. I would love to have Crede at 3rd and Fields at 1st also but there's zero chance of that happening. Crede is just as capable a hitter as Fields except for power. As Fields is the heir apparent at 3rd one of my highest hopes for the season is to see marked improvement as a fielder. Young pitchers need to build confidence and good D is key to getting them out of jams. If he continues to be a butcher then 1st base will be his only option in the very near future. Funny in the wayback machine, we were talking about how much of a stud that Ventura was and how Crede wasn't near his offensive prowess and how could Crede take over for the defensive wizardry that Ventura showed. Now a few years later, people act like Crede was a gold glover coming up. In 2002 Crede received his first taste of the big leagues, he had a 2.36 RF9(Range Factor for 9 innings played) with a zone rating of .766 while Fields had a 2.69 with a zone rating of .713. Crede had 8 errors in 53 games while Fields had 9 errors in 79 games. The almighty's Fielding Percentage was .938 for the god of Gold Glove while Fields has a .958. So as much as we remember the DVD's and the Hawk comparisons to Brooks Robinson, Mr. Crede wasnt Brooks out of the gate like some people believe.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Feb 24, 2008 -> 11:51 PM) I hope they win the World Series. Them or Milwaukee. Or Atlanta. Or the White Sox. I think they'll win the division, but Milwaukee has a good chance at it for sure. /Reinsdorf OR Kenny -- one or the other, I forget -- said they'd like to see the Cubs win it, if not the White Sox, after 05, so please spare me any "OMG!"zzZZzzzzZZzzzz I cant wait to see the excited cub fans with the its going to happen crap when they face Johan or Webb and Haren in a short series. When their butts pucker up with 100 years of sucking so we can see more sad cub fan faces. LOL I figure they will win the division and get rocked out of the first round if they face the Mets or the West. Their best bet is that they face someone without a dominant one or 2 who can shut down their Offense.
  13. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 24, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7262071.stm Pakistan's attempts to block access to YouTube has been blamed for an almost global blackout of the video website for more than an hour on Sunday. BBC News has learned that the outage was almost certainly connected to Pakistan Telecom and Asian internet service provider PCCW. A leading net professional said the global outage was "probably a mistake". Pakistan ordered internet service providers to block the site because of content deemed offensive to Islam. The BBC News website's technology editor, Darren Waters, says that to block Pakistan's citizens from accessing YouTube it is believed Pakistan Telecom "hijacked" the web server address of the popular video site. There will definitely be some fallout from this Read more on Dot.Life blog Those details were then passed on to the country's internet service providers so that anyone in Pakistan attempting to go to YouTube was instead re-directed to a different address. But the details of the "hijack" were leaked out into the wider internet from PCCW and as a result YouTube was mistakenly blocked by internet service providers around the world. The block on the servers was lifted once PCCW had been told of the issue by engineers at YouTube. Users are quite upset. They're screaming at ISPs which can't do anything Wahaj-us-Siraj, convener of the Association of Pakistan Internet Service Providers A leading net professional told BBC News: "This was probably a simple mistake by an engineer at Pakistan Telecom. There's nothing to suggest this was malicious." IP hijacking involves taking over a web site's unique address by corrupting the internet's routing tables, which direct the flow of data around the world. No-one at YouTube or PCCW was immediately available for comment. Cause of ban Reports said Pakistan made the move because YouTube content included Danish cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad that have outraged many. But one report said a trailer for a forthcoming film by Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders, which portrays Islam in a negative light, was behind the ban. "They [Pakistan's telecommunications authority] asked us to ban it immediately... and the order says the ban will continue until further notice," said Wahaj-us-Siraj, convener of the Association of Pakistan Internet Service Providers. The government decision has caused uproar in Pakistan, according to Wahaj-us-Siraj: "Users are quite upset. They're screaming at ISPs which can't do anything. "The government has valid reason for that, but they have to find a better way of doing it. If we continue blocking popular websites, people will stop using the internet." Other countries that have temporarily blocked access to YouTube include Turkey and Thailand. Well if the engineers doing this had a clue in Pakistan then this wouldnt be an issue. Just sinkhole the route, and dont announce it via BGP. But then again this is what you get when you allow full routes to be peered between providers unchecked.
  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 24, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) At this point I'm going to take back what I said about the USDA because the department of agriculture doesn't focus on growing alochol or heroin (typo ) and I'm diggin all over looking for that one number, but can't find it specifically. However I will stand on how alcohol withdrawal is worse than heroin withdrawal. Alcohol withdrawal can kill you. The effects of heroin withdrawl can kill you just like the effects of alcohol withdrawl. source:wiki on alcoholism So alcohol certain has a leg up on its withdrawl. I recall hearing about this one guy who used to come in every morning 9AM fresh, to get a liter of cheap ass Hannah and Hogg Vodka. One Sunday the clerk came in and say the guy dead up against the door because he puked up blood like crazy before he could get his vodka. One factor was the local laws to forbid any alcohol sales until 10 AM on Sundays. Here's an interesting link on Heroin http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=heroin Some notable points: Did those symptons match the same that you witnessed SSI? I know I saw people shaking and yakking in the early morning morning hours making it clear they were in for their first buzz of the day. A side note, I don't think it's fair to lump crack, LSD and Heroin all together. They are each different types of drugs. They are hallucinogenics drugs. Here's a good article from an M.D http://www.medical-journals.com/r0351b.htm You are missing the large open sores that they carry on certain parts of the body from overuse as a stick point. Intravenous drug users will start out rotating their stick points, but eventually they start to get tracks so they hide it. And start to overuse an area. You are also missing the part where the alcoholic doesnt have dirty needles on their person. Do you have any needles on you sir, No are you sure. Now granted the guy lies and you will find it, you just dont want to find it when it pierces your finger. Heroin addicts have these little other issues like that they share needles, and they use their own blood at times to mix with the heroin to mix it in quicker. They are a walking lab for aids and hepatitis. I would like the see the differences between the amount of users who become addicts in the heroin side versus the alcohol side. I havent run into too many recreational heroin use in my time, but you can find people who can knock back a few beers with their friends.
  15. QUOTE(Reddy @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) I'm with Tex on this. For something like Wikipedia fine, i see nothing wrong w/ having an image. But to use it mockingly is really inappropriate. i mean, what if i put up a picture of gay jesus as my avatar? or a swastika? or any number of other offensive things? point is, i think we should be tolerant of other people's religions, no? I wonder if the Jewish people have started their assault on Wikipedia as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika
  16. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 24, 2008 -> 03:10 AM) Explain more please. I have seen the effects of alcohol abuse and drug abuse first hand (worked in a liquor store for 7 years) and I think the only abuses worse than alcohol is meth and crack abuse. I don't think either of those drugs should be legalize because they are manufactured with chemicals and not grown naturally. I'll have to find the link again, but even the USDA says alcohol withdrawl is 4 times worse than heroin withdrawl. There is a big difference in some of the side affects of certain drugs and alcohol. If you want to bring a comparison between marijuana and alcohol so be it. LSD/Heroin/Crack and others are not the same, and affect the person differently. I worked in law enforcement and my dealings with the person out of control on both tell me differently than your experience at the liquor store. Guys on alcohol dont see their dead relatives next to them telling them to cut themselves. Guys on alcohol dont believe spiders are on them and then need to take them all out. I would suggest that you visit a heroin halfway house and checkout those people before you use those statistics. I have seen both types of withdrawal and I can tell you that the USDA needs to spend some time dealing with these people if they made that comment. Alcohol is a nasty withdrawal, but seeing people go through Heroin withdrawal was an eye opener for me. They all wire your brain differently for addiction, but some of these are extremely dangerous and very hard to deal with.
  17. Ozzie on Mike North: He would love to have Owens in CF and Swisher in LF. But is looking to start Quentin against CC on opening day. So this pretty much means his BS about OBP was a smokescreen and that a platoon that favors Owens as the start will be put in place. This is the only team in baseball where the 4th OF type is the starter and the high OBP projectable is the 4th OF. Thank god we love our speedster bantam weights that will cruise in with the sub .320 OBP. Woo hoo Pods Jr. He was stating that Uribe played a lot of second base and should try to play there everyday. This means that Snacks and Cakes will be back in the starter role swinging for the fence on every pitch. Again dumb. He is going to have a closed door with Uribe today. Oh and the best. If Crede plays well he will be the starter. Fields will be moved (down to AAA). He states that its not fair, but he has to do what he thinks is the best for the team. He will talk to Fields and Crede individually today about the situation. He stated again that Floyd and Javy are throwing the best so far. If Fields and Richar are both in AAA I will be livid.
  18. Its the annual tradition here to block all access people trying to get cubs tickets. I am a bit more vicious in my block as I allow them to waste their time in the virtual waiting room, but block them on ticket purchase. I love this holiday. I have already had 4 calls about intermittent internet blocks but they wouldnt tell me what site it was. Everything else works great, except for the purchasing off the virtual window. If you work in IT remember to block access to tickets.com and specifically http://frontline.purchasenow*.tickets.com
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 05:21 PM) How do you know which processes your computer should be running. It seems like my computer lags like crazy and there are just too many processes running at one time, how do you decide what should and should not be running? http://www.x-raypc.com/ The company that created this is facetime communications. They have done a lot of work in malware research and greynets. They are a pretty reputable company. This program is free, takes a snapshot of the processes creates an md5 hash of them and compares it against a list of malware. Its a quick way of seeing if any of your processes are known malware.
  20. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) Doesn't compare to Rex's brokeback, or brokebutt, or whatever it is, but apparently in my doctors visit yesterday, I have a severe case of bursitis in my right knee. It has hurt for the last 2 months, and been swollen, although I can't recall doing anything to make it happen like a fall or something. It hurts to go down stairs, and when I bend my knee it makes a crunching sound like crumpling up paper or aluminum foil. Pills and a cortisone shot, and a month of doing as little as possible. I foresee a gain coming in my near future. Just a suggestion. If you have access to a gym and a pool at the gym I would suggest moving your workouts to the water. If you exercise, run with resistance gloves or just swim you will be able to keep your exercise up without putting undo stress on your knee. Good work guys. Keep it up.
  21. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) Danks and Floyd in the starting rotation. nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarhea. I think both will surprise this year. They both have the stuff. Its amazing the same people who are broken hearted over Garland moving on, are the same people crapping on some young kids getting a shot. Garland was anything but a sure thing a few years back. Or do people forget Judy. GIve them a chance. If they suck, then move them out and try someone else out.
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) OK, next shot, 130 miles up in space, moving satellite, moving ship, nothing but fuel tank. Zinnnnnng Boom! 500 pts But we can't have decent health care for all Americans Well we could allow a satellite that might have hazardous material crash into your area, and cause a natural disaster or we can blow it up in space. I like the later. And you can have decent healthcare, just buy it.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 08:59 AM) Uribe's going to end up being our everyday starter at 2nd base this year. Snacks and Cakes was already headed down this route. Any other material just helps build up the case for S&C.
  24. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) ' I really don't understand all these people saying Owens should be the 4th OF. Do you really think a winning team can have Nick Swisher in CF? I don't. I want Owens out there every day because he can chase balls in the gap. Swisher will let them drop for doubles. Whatever offensive issues Owens has will be made up for by the balls he chases down. I want him starting - and batting 9th - every day. Let Quentin come off the bench this year and take over for Dye next year. If you are so worried about defense and dont care about offense you would be better off having Anderson running balls down in CF than Owens. Andersons D >>>>>>> Owens plus Anderson can throw a ball to the infield without having it cut 2 times. Quentins O + Swisher in CF = > Owens and his rag arm running around CF.
  25. At SXU I had a criminal justice class that had 8 people and we sat at a round table.
