  1. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) Then what does it say if, and I know it's an "if", we turn around and sign Iguchi in the off season? We are the new San Francisco Giants.
  2. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 01:20 PM) I understand it quite well, but still disagree. I disagree about a lot of "whole situations" in life. I'm sorry if I found it humorous that it looks like Iguchi just might be a much better bet to have at 2b than Richar. Iguchi can hit, however having him and Konerko on the right side of the infield makes for one of the poorest from the range standpoint. A lot of balls got through. Gooch is a bit older, and should regress over the next few years. Especially in the fielding standpoint. I would rather get a platoon partner if they want to ease Richar's introduction.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 10:30 AM) That wasn't a genuine handjob that they showed. They showed it for ten seconds and he finished. And I'm surprised everybody's talking about the handjob that only showed the very top of his dick and little else but nobody's talking about the blowjob the old lady gives her husband? It's kind of a dull show so far, and it's not hot, either. I'll watch it, because I watch HBO at night, but I'm not sold that it's good just yet. Or sexxxy. The hand job showed more than the top of his dick. And it also showed the ejaculation. But then again they had a show on HBO last night that was on Deepthroat documentary. And they showed Linda Lovelace going down on a guy, and it wasn't censored at all.
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) Not to discredit your argument but perhaps a person from Malaysia making a good wage in I.T. has better opportunities to learn a second language. They might not have to work 2 or 3 jobs to feed the family and have more time to study another language. Might be a class issue not a race thing. I could be wrong. The person from Indonesia came from nothing of the sort. He was from the rural areas of the country. His family is dirt poor, and the only reason he learned about computers is that his family realized that he would have no opportunities in their village. They had him leave and go an live with another relative when he was 13. And learned that only education could take him out of his mess. He worked his ass off, and that is why he is here. If he can do it, under the severe circumstances that he went through, there is no reason the rest can't. He also learned the language here, from free classes in Chicago.
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 09:32 AM) That is why I said the front line forms. How many government forms have you looked at this year? Certainly not millions, I doubt even dozens. Why not have those in Spanish? Say the top 250? Currently the clerk and the customer couldn't answer the questions, so now we have a fighting chance that at least the customer could figure it out. A hurdle, all answers would have to be in English. But name, address, etc are the same in any language. How long does it take people to assimilate if you don't make them learn the language. In IT I have worked for a lot of different companies. And a lot of time, the programming wing of the department has a lot of foreign based workers that come over on Visa. Not just Indians, but Malaysians, Indonesians, Vietnamese. The Indian's usually are taught English in schools. But a lot of the other countries dont have that infrastructure setup. A lot of them didn't speak English, or spoke little English, however have made an extreme effort to learn the language. Why, because they had to. I have a co-worker now that came over from Indonesia. He said he knew a few words when he came over, but located some free schools in Chicago to learn English(yes they have them) and he took on the challenge of learning English. Now why can he and others in the workforce assimilate, and learn English. Yet we need to create a secondary infrastructure for those who seem to have so many issues. The leap from Spanish to English is not as difficult as say Mandrian Chinese, or Russian, or Indonesian is to go to English. At least Spanish and English come from a similar root language. There are lots of immigrants from places that don't speak English that come over here, and have the same battle that the Spanish speaking public has to deal with. Why can they assimilate. Over the history of the United States, we have had different foreign groups come over, and assimilate. Once they move into society, and take on the efforts of learning the language and becoming part of the melting pot. Sometimes its time to pull the security blanket, and make them assimilate. They can do it, its just about if they want to.
  6. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 10:16 AM) but what I think is important to note: Well I dont know about that. Its a fuel air explosive, and the last time I checked the combustion of any fuel source pollutes by nature. Now granted, the area isnt roped off for the next 1000 years as everything glows in the dark. The locals aren't also getting hooves, and fangs and wings and other sorts of mutations from their new "DNA".
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 09:57 AM) Its going to be interesting to see who he "appoints". Victor Zubkov, head of the federal financial monitoring service, is a relative unknown in Russian politics has been nominated for PM.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) Why wouldnt you tax people who live out of Cook? Over 70 percent of the people taking up the roadways and the parking in the city are commuting from the suburbs outside of chicago. These people are using up chicago's resources just as much if not more than the actual residents. Those people who use the parking pay for it and therefore are taxed. Most of those commuters use the highways, which I believe are under state control. I don't work in the city of Chicago. The only time I enter the city really is to go to Sox games, which they are already getting a good chunk of my tax dollar for. My property taxes already dwarf what the average home see's in Chicago, I dont think its fair that I get dinked more for something I dont use.
  9. I think mentally and physically he is tired. To me this craptacular season is not helping things overall. In the first part of the season, he was the 5th starter and was fighting tooth and nail for every start just to stay up here. The offense decided to take a collective dump everytime he pitched, but he pitched well. He started to pitch like crap the minute that the team went on a freefall. He is a rookie, who should of been in AAA this year. I think he will be better next year. He needs to work on fine tuning his control, and working on that Buerhle cutter that Mark is helping him with. I would like to see a better plan of attack when he takes the mound next year. He should use his changeup more, and use it to keep people off of his fastball. All I see lately is the catchers are calling so many fastballs. His fastball is above 90, and no matter how straight it is, if you use a secondary pitch to change the bat speed of the batter you can get away with it. You use your change to offset the fastball, and you use your curveball to setup the high fastball out pitch. This is what I would like to see for next year.
  10. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) You guys want to lose every night to get a shot at those names? I'll be breathless counting the days til the draft. Give me free agents and Japanese players any day over no names in the draft that likely will not pan out judging the Sox history of draft picks. Again you think that this is the Yankees with unlimited funds and unlimited resources. And not a team that has over 90 mill already tied up for next year. To gain flexibility you have to do what you want move expensive parts. I would rather see if we can pick up an impact guy that can help the franchise for a very long time. But then again if this was 1987 you would want a few more wins and some other team would of had Frank Thomas. Because at that time, Frank Thomas was just a person that you never seen play. Top prospects like this can change the face of a franchise. Next year is very important when it comes to scouting our impact draft.
  11. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) What was impressive about the Richar hit? Takes a high outside pitch and drives it into left field for a double down the line. Nice swing and he went with the pitch.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) Darin Erstad must start at least 5 times a week and 90% of his GP must be starts as well. Also, Luis Terrero must be buried on the bench while Scott Podsednik gives Josh Fields 2 days off a week. Erstad must bat 5th.
  13. QUOTE(GoGoWhiteSox! @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 10:02 PM) Keys to the 2008 Chi WhiteSox winning a world championship: 1. Andy Gonzalez must play every day 2. Mike McDougal must pitch at least 1 inning every game That is all Mike Myers must pitch an inning a game as well.
  14. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 03:20 PM) The transition from ESPN boards was well worth it. Thanks Soxtalk for being my favorite place to love to hate. As another former ESPN boarder, this place is so much better. More sox posters, and less Boog.
  15. Andy should be running foul poles after the game. Thats what you would have to do in high school if you messed up a play like that. Its one thing if you cant get the ball out, its another if you are so gun shy you cant pull the trigger.
  16. Now this gets an 11 on the 10 sick scale. type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" flashvars="file=http://media.ejbdotcom.net/content21/video_1189458650.flv&image=http://media.ejbdotcom.net/thumbs/big/thumbnail_1189458845.jpg&autostart=false&showfsbutton=false&lightcolor=0xF7C998&backcolor=0xAE5802&frontcolor=0xFFFFFF&showdigits=false" />
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) Oh great...the legend of Paul Byrd...the only man to even slow down the White Sox in the playoffs in 05... Another expert in Maysiology, the science of low and away. Overly aggresive hitters and pull hitters are pawns of those who practice Maysiology. Founder Joe Mays and his breakthrough theorums of if my 87 mph fastball is spotted low and away, they cannot resist the urge to rip and jack it out of the park, only to find that the ball bounces nicely to the 3rd baseman and shortstop.
  18. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 09:42 AM) AdAware is kind of crappy -- misses a lot of real spyware and removes stupid stuff like tracking cookies while making normal people feel safe, when it's not really doing much. SpyBot, however, is a very good (and free) spyware remover. All that said, the best spyware remover is the spyware you don't put on your system. Don't browse wierd websites, don't click on links you don't know/understand, and don't open emails from yourself or other people with wierd subject lines...and you never have to worry about spyware. I agree with your assessment, I would add that all of them pretty much suck in some way or another. The problem in this space is its too new and too much competition. In the AV community the Mcafee, Symantecs, Trends and all share samples across the community so you get more of a 95% and up hit rate on most av detects. In the spyware community there is no such sample sharing. So you get only what they are seeing which maybe only a fragment of the code out in the wild. You see more of a 30 to 40% hit rate on the stand alone scanners. Then of course you have the wolves in sheep's clothing which are spyware popups that people decide to click on because it told them they have spyware. They click on it, it installs some crap program that gives them false results and in fact is spyware itself. This part of the security industry is a freaking mess at the moment. The stay away from spyware infected sites is a nice idea, but in reality what is a valid site and what isnt. The obvious ones, like the flash games, porn, and other associated crap thats easy. But look at the Superbowl site that hosted a rougue javascript that was exploiting people visiting the site. That was a valid site, and it was an outside attacker exploiting it and using it to serve up its code. At blackhat I saw someone demo a flash based attack where someone would hit the myspace site with the flash animation for the profile and it would exploit and drop down some code. AThis whole thing is a mess. Spybot and Adware are de-facto standards have ok hit rates. Also xblock by factime is another decent free scanner. http://www.xblock.com/onlinescan.php AVG is another one to try. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/us/frt/0 Webroot is one of the better ones, if you could call it that. But it costs, but they have a free spyware scan. If it identifies something outside of tracking cookies then you have a plan of attack. http://www.webroot.com/consumer/compare/fr...re.html?rc=4929
  19. The machine is starting early. Getting his name out to the sox beat reporters, and the continuous fluffing of someone that KW obviously has a thing for. More high fives as we pass up on Alvarez to pick up the more signable Jordan Danks. The fluffing of Jordan Danks by members of the media. Now maybe Gonzales should of taken a look at what Pedro did in that tourney.
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 09:26 AM) Ask KW about evaluating September performances for young guys. I'm glad Floyd is improving, but really how could he not have improved? If he has a 3.00 ERA this month does it mean he will continue to get better? Look at his 2004 numbers. They were pretty good, why was he not able to continue to improve then. He's a tease, and always will be. Contreras at least has shown he can get the job done in meaningful games. There is a slight difference between evaluating Floyd when he faces the Royals in September. When facing the Indians in September when they are still trying to lock up a playoff spot is another thing.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 01:16 AM) On a sidenote, I want to point out I don't have a problem with anyone rooting for the club to lose. I understand all about the top pick. I'm also trying to throw out other points so you guys get an idea of where those that may not be rooting for the club to lose are coming from. I basically take the approach if they lose, fine, top pick here they come, but if they win I see the added benefit in terms of player development that could come with those wins (since typically when you win its because you've played well and if young players play well its a good sign of your future as you may actually have a couple young players that will turn into quality major league players). I'm not about to care much either way, unless of course we have some significant injuries. All I care about is if the young players play well and I hope vets play well to raise trade value. To me, the wins are secondary to our young kids getting experience. I would rather get game experience and find out about our young kids over a few measley wins in September on this season. Tonight watching Gavin pitch, watching Richar and Fields and Owens is what I am watching right now. If they win, great. If they lose, oh well.
  22. Number one picks overall 2000 Adrian Gonzales 2001 Joe Mauer 2002 Bryan Burlington Pirates a dirt dirt cheap organization 2003 Delmon Young 2004 Matt Bush 2005 Justin Upton 2006 Luke Hoechvar Cheap move, the better move was to pick up Andrew Miller. 2007 David Price That still looks like a pretty good list.
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:58 AM) C'mon now. Matt Bush was a pick that just about everybody criticized at the time. I don't remember ANYONE saying Bush was close to being the best player available that year. It's really a shame that they booted up the Soxfest prices -- I'd love to ask Kenny a question this year. "Mr Williams -- with the Sox having the first overall pick in the upcoming draft , will the organization be willing to pony up the money for the best overall player, even if it means going significantly over slot?" Actually its.. "Mr Williams, with the Sox having the first overall pick in the upcoming draft, how will you justify picking someone slated for the late first round. You have heard of the top 5 guys like Alvarez right. You haven't got your blinders on just to get someone you are infatuated with right you know a certain relative of your 5th starter correct.
  24. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:55 AM) Jesus. I didn't realize it was this close. A stretch of 5 wins over 7 games and we could go from 1st place to 7th or 8th. Well the offense wont improve too much. Greg is already working on the 08 attack. He doesnt want to work with Fields because his swing got him here, and he wants Fields to be Fields. Myers getting innings is beyond confusing.
  25. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:38 AM) Or so Duane Shaffer would have you think. Oops. At least he didnt steal some laptops, that would be a deal breaker.
