More detailed article on the KW/Ozzie/PK meeting
southsideirish71 replied to fathom's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The next time my company is about to fire someone, maybe we should find someone real close to them, maybe someone they go to lunch with and bounce the idea of firing their lunch pall off of them. If their buddy says to ride it out, maybe we should just say screw it and keep them. -

You are almost 11 games out of first and nearly the same amount out of the wild card. How about you wait until you get to say, 500 before we start the silly we are going to win this thing talk. We are closer to 5th than first by a long shot. I wonder if the Royals GM is thinking of adding, because they are in a similiar situation right now. So we didnt add anyone because Pauly told them we had the team to win the WS. We didnt fire Walker, because Pauly likes him. Now we may add to a team, that is near 11 games out because our GM cant adjust and Pauly told him to go for it. Stop asking Pauly for advice. Good lord. -

He makes moves in the offseason, to stave off a string of 90 loss seasons. And now he is talking about going down with the ship, all because the first baseman has a good feeling about a team that has been well under 500 since the ASB of last year. To win this division we will need 93 plus wins. Take a gander on the silly winning percentage we would need to get to 93 wins now. -
QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) I think that the only thing Jose would be worth in a trade is a bag of balls right now. His contract has become an albatross. I think that nobody would want him on their team for $10 million. I was not, after the 2005 season, happy about the contract he signed. This team would be better off if they let him walk after last year. I bet you were happy when he was throwing 97 early last year and striking out 13 in back to back starts. He got injured and needs to get back to dropping and driving instead of sidearming everything. He gets ontop of that fastball and gets it back to 93-94 and he will dominate again. Massett looked filthy for 2 batters. When he pitches ahead he can dominate. When get gets behind in the count, he gets rocked.

QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) Maybe he will and I hope he does. It is speculating, it wouldn't be the first time an org. has done a respected player a favor. Williams is prob. just in the early stages of fielding offers anyways. We will see how it plays out. When when Steve Traschel is listed as the next best pitcher on the market, we are definately in the drivers seat. A guy like Mark, who eats up innings and can dominate the NL and is battle tested. Demand will be high, and unlike a few years ago, there will be only a few difference makers on the market.
-
QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) Huh? My point is the Sox might wait to trade him until after the birth of his child, as a courtesy to MB and his wife because they think so highly of him. So if the Mets come and offer the farm, everything KW wants and more, he will say I have to pass because my impending FA and soon to be former WS is about to be a daddy. KW is dealing in a position of strength. There is nothing on the market with Marks pedigree. The minute KW gets something that he believes makes him better team for a long time, he will pull the trigger.

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) The base running has gone downhill since Tim Raines has left the coaches box If Owens was picked off first by himself. No problem. But first you have a guy picked off second by the catcher. So you should say to yourself, hey that guy has a cannon. Then you get picked off. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) Of course you do. Thank you negative man. By the way, in case you haven't noticed, the Sox are winning 9-3. Why should that matter - lets talk about the negatives. Its nice to see you are on peoples nuts again. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) I know this is all pretty silly but the Dodgers and Padres are not playing tonight and no one has been removed as of yet from the D-Backs game. Dodgers or Arizona would be my two choices. Dodgers and Billingsley would be the best matchup. -

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) Those injections in his knee(s) are supposed to lubricate the joint. Maybe he's feeling better than he has all season. Two amazing catches by "old cement shoes." More likely his accountant and agent took him behind the woodshed, and showed them how much money he is costing himself. Then proceeded to kick him in the nuts, and give him a cortizone rub on the knees. -

QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:15 PM) Asked if he could envision being traded, he said: "Yes and no. I can see why I would be, the way we are playing and the baseball side of it. But then again I want to spend my whole career here." Well dont ask for so many years or money and you will be. If you want to get paid what the rest of the pitchers want for the years you want, see you later Marky Mark. -

I love it when Hawk jerks off an umpire when they give us the close bang bang play. Then I love it when Hawk about a half inning later, starts screaming about teacups and how they got jobbed on a similiar play that goes the other way. Santo with legs, thats our Hawk. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) Maybe JD's been traded. 2 diving catches and his bat looks good. I am sure there has to be a scout in attendance that sees that. -

Why again was Paulie at that meeting. This makes no sense. 2006, Paulie do you need anything. NOPE WE CAN WIN WITH WHAT WE HAVE. Now we are asking him for advice on roster moves. This speaks volumes on how goofy our management model is. The GM, his direct reports and the Manager should be making direction, not a f***ing player. -
Now why didn't they just do the easy thing and fire all of the players.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) Exactly! Lets get rid of freakin Cooper. So what if the starters are good - they are veterans for the most part. The bullpen freakin sucks and it has to be because of him. He is the one teaching the kids. Plus he is the one teaching them not to pitch will all the velocity, right? Get rid of him! Hang em! Sounds ridiculous. I completely agree with your entire post Dick Allen. Lets get some better players in here. I think one of the things that a lot of the Sox fans that call for coaching changes have similar to most Cub fans is that they all think coaching changes are needed and are the fix all end all. Get rid of Baylor - he sucks, bring in Dusty, YAY! Get rid of Dusty, he sucks, bring in Lou, YAY! Lou freakin sucks, why didn't the Cubs get Girardi? Boo Lou, HOORAY Girardi! Yet the team remains the same bunch of stink ass players as before and they keep losing. It is the same here with the fans that want coaching changes. The coach can change, yet the output on the field will be the same if you don't change the players. You people just want that warm and fuzzy feeling inside that a change was made because management heard you and they care about you. Yeah - ok! By your logic, Manuel, Nardi, and Von Joshua should still be employed by the Palehose.
