  1. I see where he's coming from. This would be more difficult to happen in the WBC, but if say team Venezuela had 3 White Sox on it and no White Sox on team USA, then I would root for Venezuela
  2. Not nearly as bad as South Korea... Yes, that's a Ferrari, Porsche, and Lambo

  5. The White Sox were the answer to a daily double question today on Jeopardy. "This is the President's favorite team and his favorite to play for them was Harold Baines". The guy answered the Bulls, then Bears

Good Hair was one of the highest rated movies of the year, but I was disappointed. I was thinking it would be more comedy than documentary. It was just kinda sad at times. If I were black, I would've probably enjoyed it more

  8. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) How did I "blindly extrapolate partial season stats"? The numbers I listed were full season production as it included every at-bat. Jones played only a portion of the full season, and you extrapolated his HR numbers over that portion to suggest how much power Jones has. It's generally not a good idea to take a small sample size and just double it to make an assumption because it introduces room for error. But this is besides the point because my original post and probably everyone here agrees Jones doesn't suffer from a lack of power in his bat. It's other issues like making contact and staying healthy hinder Jones from being able to use his power regularly and effectively
  9. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 02:27 AM) I'm confused.... You said "Capable doesn't provide a sense of likelihood?" But then went on tho say that several of those players have averaged close to 15HRs. It seems to me that the fact that you pointed out the players average 15 HRS would at the very least indicate a capability to do so...no? (AJ, Teahen, Beckham) You're missing the point. A player who hit 15 HRs 1 out of 5 seasons could be considered capable to hit 15 HRs, just as a player who hit 15 HRs 5 out of 5 seasons could also be considered capable. But the likelihood of each of them reaching the mark is notably different. I'm pointing out that several of your 8 average just at or below 15 HRs/season, which means capable is better translated to somewhat likely, but nothing to really count on QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 02:27 AM) So the fact that Jones hit 17 Hrs in 281 ABs doesn't inspire power confidence? That would be 34 Hrs for 562 at-bats. Jones hit 8 fewer HRs than Jermaine Dye last season in over 200 fewer ABs. I said Jones clearly has a powerful bat. And it's nice that you just blindly extrapolated his partial season stats from last year, but part of being able to do that means he needs to stay healthy. Which he hasn't been able to do the previous two seasons. His batting average is less than .220 over his last 1000 ABs. These are the red flags which do not inspire confidence, and are part of the reason we were able to sign Jones for basically the league minimum
  10. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) Please tell us how this team as a collective is "lacking power". Eight of the nine hitters in the Sox lineup are capable of hitting 15+ HRS. Minnesota can't claim that. Detroit can't claim that. Whenever you're ready... Number of hitters "capable" of hitting 15+ home runs is not a good way to measure team power. First, "capable" doesn't really provide a sense of likelihood. Several of the players you're including average under or just around the 15 HR mark. A team like the Twins may have a smaller group of guys who have hit 15 HRs at a point in their career, yet that group could still out-HR our larger group. These are also two teams who had below AL average power output last year. And the position traditionally reserved for the team bat with the most power, we have chosen to chalk in an inadequacy platoon. Kotsay is a singles-hitter who as a lefty could get the lion's share of DH ABs at this point. Jones clearly has a powerful bat and was no doubt one of the 8 hitters you're speaking of, but his recent performance doesn't inspire much confidence
  11. Blalock would be a poor full-time DH. His plate discipline has been steadily worsening and he would bring our already weak team on-base skills down even more. He can play a few infield positions, but not particularly well. Do not want
  12. HBO has put the entire first episdoe of the Ricky Gervais show on YouTube early. This is an animated show based off Gervais' hugely successful podcasts. I've already heard all the podcasts, they are so funny. Check it out
  13. Lagunitas is officially my favorite brewery. Every beer I've had from them hasn't just been good, they've been exceptionally flavorful but very drinkable at the same time. If Brown Shugga' is on tap at your local bar, do yourself a favor and try it out

Does anyone else feel like Jacob may actually be evil and the guy using Locke is good? It seems like Jacob has used everyone for something and now they live in suffering. The only good thing Jacob did was bring Locke back to life after he fell, but even that is questionable because I'm sure Locke would've rather been dead than go back to his horrible life made worse by having no leg use. Jacob also killed Sayid's gf

Hopefully that is the episode that will get this season going. It looked like the numbers by each of their names were the same series of numbers they had to punch into the computer

I don't know what to make of 'Funny People'. It got pretty awkward towards the end. At least there were a few good laughs
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 14, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) Women don't like sad sacks, but they do like confidence. This is where the thought that chicks love an asshole comes into play, because generally assholes come off as confident (and sometimes overconfident) and women will eat it up. Yes. Daniel Tosh has a pretty funny joke about this, watch from 3:40-4:40
