  1. Right after that graphic said PK is the best hitter against lefties. Screw minimum PA! Fields' OPS against LHP will be around 1.200 after this game
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) Screw the sox for allowing Contreras to throw sidearm without forcing him to throw up. This side arm crap cant leave quick enough. Did you see him throw that overhand fork to Inge? Got me excited then he went back to drop-down.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) Andrew Miller might have nintendo stuff and all. But one point I would like to say, is to take a gander at his motion. He throws across his body in a violent manner. There was this texan who struck out 20 on the northside that used to do that same type of thing. He may be healthy forever. But that motion would scare the hell out of me for the long run. Miller's mechanics are far more sound than Wood's. The guy who will always have problems unless changes are made is Zumaya.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:23 AM) Yikes... Whoa we have a serious case of Rudolph right there Earlier in the week she modeled her alky-anklet
  5. Way to shade him away on an inside pitch call
  6. QUOTE(max power @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) WTF? toby hall's OBP was 3 points less than his AVG. He's that bad
  7. DJ usually taking a hit in football doesn't involve a direct slap of your face with a leather glove
  8. Haha, when did Hawk start saying he gone against the Sox
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) His slider has been crushed so far tonight. No that's his curve not curving
  10. With no curve, Floyd has no chance against the team that has scored more runs than anyone in baseball. At least the slider is decent.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) Hawk does say some curious things, like when he watches the game he doesn't watch the ball he watches the hitter. If that is true how come he is constantly b****ing about a pitch 2 inches off the plate immediately after its called a strike. It's pretty easy to see where the ball crosses the plate while keeping your eye on the batter. Plus things like batter/crowd/coach reaction, and he will almost always say, "let's see that again!" to confirm the call was indeed missed.
  12. Great inning by Mark. Real tough luck double by Inge.
  13. Fields simply owns left handed pitching
  14. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 11:15 PM) The Big Money is all in Buehrle, Garland, Contreras, Vazquez, Konerko, and Thome. It's pretty clear that 2 starters have to go and the Sox have to hope like crazy that 2 of Floyd, Haegar, Gonzalez, and Egbert can step up next season. Oh..I forgot to include Starting Pitcher of the Future ™ Nick Masset in there.... They don't even need to step up that much. If we get an ERA a shade under 5 from the #4 guy and an ERA between 5.5-6 from the #5 guy, we will be better than league average in those respective slots. To me the most pressure will be on the #2 and #3 guys. If Javy is here, he's gonna have to keep up what he's done this season and not revert to years past. Same kind of goes for Garland. Danks will need to step up more than anyone to become a good #3 AL starter. That is what we're faced with if two starters are traded before the deadline.
  15. It'd be a completely lateral move. We need prospects which will allow us to fill multiple holes or at least fill one position on the cheap and let us redirect the traded salary towards free agency. No surprise KW balked at this one.

    Contreras

And the author of that article admittedly selected Haeger over Andrew Miller in fantasy draft. Credibility lost. He has a mega hard-on for knuckleballers. So Haeger moved the the minors quickly. I never saw much improvement in the peripherals. He still walks more than 1 batter every 2 innings, gives up almost a hit per inning, doesn't miss bats although this year is better in that regard, and the ERA stays low even though the percentage of unearned runs he gives up are amongst the highest of pitching prospects because of wild pitches/passed balls. Haeger seems like a great guy, but his chance for success in the majors is less than that of even Gavin Floyd.

    7/19 Games

I was thinking about that too Balta. There are complaints in every game thread about our pull-everything, swing for the fences mentality. Sweeney appears to be a hitter outside of that mold. But the 150-point difference between home and road OPS should raise some concern. Hopefully as he develops he can find a happy medium of the two approaches or as you said just fill out and become a stronger hitter.

    7/19 Games

I think I can provide some insight as to why Sweeney's power numbers aren't quite where we would like to see them. Take a look at his First Inning Batted Ball Chart. More specifically notice where the ball goes when he hits it in the air. Less than 10% of the balls he puts in play even go to right in the air. And of balls Sweeney hits in the air, less than 1/5 of them are hit to right! He doesn't have the Jim Thome or Ryan Howard strength to get a lot of homers or doubles on balls hit to opposite and center field, but that is where he likes to spray the ball. It kind of coincides with what we saw when Sweeney was called up. He had difficulty hitting the inside pitch, which should be taken to the right side of the field. Looks like he is either missing these, or just pounding them into the ground, as the highest percentage of his balls in play are hit to 1st/2nd with very little success. Maybe he is being pitched away or just feels more comfortable hitting opposite field.
  19. Fields has trouble with fastballs over the plate, he has no chance against anything hard and in, most teams seem to know this.
