  1. I was disappointed in that as well. If you take away Garza's whiffs, I think I only remember Torii swinging over some balls in that AB he struck out.
  2. DJ was talking about some catcher who took a broken bat shard into his neck. That has to be the most extreme.
  3. He has had zero command his last two starts. Unfortunately he wasn't able to limit the damage tonight as he did at Charlotte.
  4. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) Neither JD. He (in my opinion) did not bear down vs. Cudyher and he walked him. He threw a rolling curve ball which Morneau hit out but my beef on that is why call that pitch, it was the absolute wrong time to slow Morneau's bat down especially after he couldn't get around on Floyd's fastball. Were the pitch calls coming from the dugout in the 1st? I saw AJ looking to his left. I don't know about Floyd's nerves or anything, but no breaking balls he threw in the 1st inning looked as good as any he was throwing in the 2nd.
  5. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) Wily Mo Pena has had three better seasons in the Majors than Kemp's had in the minors. This is false. Has Pena even played what could be considered a season? 110 games/336 ABs is his most activity in one year. If the statement you made were even remotely true, the players' corresponding stats would not look like this. Kemp Minor League line: .309/.357/.516/.873 Pena Major League line: .257/.312/.470/.782

QUOTE(Shadows @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) I have a sister that is 20.. I wont even consider a girl unless she is older than my sister just because it would feel weird knowing my girl is younger than my little sister You should not consider a girl that is less hot than your sister, because your sister's hot
  7. Hint: the score was not 3-1 when Thome hit a HR
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) Ervin Santana tonight on the road so far: 3 IP, 8K's Yikes Was this pre-emptive? Never thought I'd see you updating us on Ervin Santana's success away from home.
  9. Fields ranges really well to his right.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) Over/under on Fields K's tonight is 2.5 Over He doesn't do righties

    7/1 games

On a day where he has no command, Floyd still manages to hold the opponent in check. I doubt the 'old' Gavin could accomplish this. Remember how everyone wanted Floyd to prove he could post an ERA under 5 in the minors and have the mental fortitude to win games? Well, he is leading the IL in ERA (starting pitchers) and has a .700 winning percentage for a team that is 13 games under .500. Let's pray he can hold this composure whenever he gets called up.
  12. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) I recall the huge story last year (?) about the Braves having to move Andruw Jones before August 1st because that is when his 10/5 would kick in. Which is it? It's just 10 years of service time, which means the rights could kick in midseason. I also originally though the 10 years meant 10 full calendar years, but that must be wrong. Because many people linked me to that Andruw Jones article, and I found a very similar article about Pudge Rodriguez when he played for Texas. I even found information today that says a player can only use his 10-5 rights to block a trade to no more than 13 clubs. I don't know if it is credible.
  13. Another request...please add Trade Winds to the drop-down box in the bottom right corner of the screen. Make TW its own forum if necessary.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) FWIW, Gavin Floyd pitched today, and walked 6 guys in 5 innings. That makes me think Buehrle isn't getting traded in the next 24 hours. Two atrocious at-bats for AJ today. I don't think anything Gavin did/does today would have an effect on Buehrle's situation with the White Sox unless he died or something
  15. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) Yeah, the ERAs are good, but it's the dominant groundball ratio that gets me excited. That and a decent K/IP and K/BB. He's certainly not a B Mac in terms of flashy numbers, but that ground ball rate may indicate he's a much better pitcher for the Cell than just about anyone save Buehrle and Garland on the staff. His G/F ratio isn't that dominant. Against lefties over the last three years, it's about 1, under 1 a couple years. Much better against righties during that same time period, around 1.7. So overall he's around 1.3-1.4, which is Garland territory, but that's still like 1/3 the rate of guys like Webb and Lowe.
  16. Oliver Perez scratched today with a sore back, Pelfrey recalled to make the start. Let's hope Philly brings the bats.
  17. Mark who? Seriously though, hell of a game thus far for Danks. DJ agrees with me that Fields needs to be hacking from the get go. Looks like he's had a couple better at bats today. I saw him take two 2-0 fastballs down the middle in Tampa and later make outs.
  18. I used to think beers like Dos Equis and Heineken were pretty good until I moved to Austin and made a lot of friends who happened to be beer snobs. I guess in college I always drank whatever was free/cheap and never realized the wide array of beers that had so much more flavor to offer.

    Buehrle Fest

QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 10:53 AM) Well I have a feeling KW is gonna f*** up royally. I have zero confidence in his smugass to do anything to help this team anymore. To me he is a walking clusterf***. Last time he rebuilt the team, we won the World Series. 16 players on our postseason roster had been aquired within 1 year of 2005. Granted, rebuilding a team with prospects instead of veterans will prove way more difficult. Unfortunately, we are going nowhere with this core of players. Seems like we do not have a choice. Some of our favorite/most talented players will have to be sacrificed. Based on reports, KW has been asking for teams' top 2 prospects for Buehrle, which is exactly what needs to happen. No 'projects' for a pitcher of Buehrle's caliber.

    Buehrle Fest

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 09:36 AM) From a business prespective, no trade clauses are terrible...absolutly terrible. You're basically paying 56M dollars for an "asset", not unlike buying a home or a stock on the open market...and you're going to tell me that as part of the deal, I cannot resell you or trade you? Thanks, but no thanks. I don't blame the organization for this at all...closed-ended no trade clauses are bad business simply because we cannot see what the future holds. A more open no-trade clause is one thing, such as, you cannot trade me to these specific teams. I could understand a clause like that, but a flat out "you cannot trade or sell me no matter what clause" is bad in any form of business...it's just beyond stupid to enter into agreements such as this. I agree. For an aging team on the decline with really talented youthful competitors, we can't afford to commit 15-20% of our payroll to one player and not have the option to trade them unless they are named Santana/Pujols. That said, when Buehrle is traded, it really is imperative KW gets an impressive haul. It should really not be that difficult considering the number of teams in contention and the market for starting pitchers at the moment.
  21. Maybe your video card does not support that resolution. Also are you connected through DVI?
