Sorry if this is elsewhere. A few interesting ones in here, FWIW. http://www.nj.com/mets/ledger/index.ssf?/b...7070.xml&coll=1

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) I like Dolgin better than I liked Wills, but I never liked Wills at all, so almost anyone would have been better IMO. I can take or leave Dolgin. Amen, Wills was awful. He was biased to the point of being an embarassment to the team and the fans. Dolgin, eh whatever.

Expect Boston to step up the pursuit of Burnett because of this? How long will Clement be out?

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:34 PM) Except gload does not suck like liefer... .....the verdict is out on that still. Let Gload continue to get shuffled around some more ( in and out of the line up, up and down from the minors) and we'll see if he doesn't 'suck'.
-
I always rooted for Liefer. Liefer=Gload, odd man out with the Sox.
-
I know the Bo-Sox were kind of in the Burnett derby, but besides that, haven't they been kinda quiet just before the deadline? Anyone even heard any rumors about what the Yanks might pick up? Strange.

Shingo should only be used to acupuncture Frank's ankle back to health.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) Score (George Offman) just reported that the Brewers INSIST that they will not be trading Overbay. Insert the "woaaah woaaaah woaaaaah" music now.
-
Ok, now it sounds like it beacme an either/or. I don't think we have the chips to get both Burnett and Huff or Overbay. If resigning Burnett is the roadblock, then that's a dead issue. Frank going down is huge now, very, very huge. It adds one more hole that we didn't expect to have to fix.

For those who complain about media perception

QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) He's coming around, everyone else will follow as long as we keep it up. That's a backhanded compliment: "....no one else looks great". -
Who would you guys rather face in the playoffs....
LosMediasBlancas replied to Tadahito Iguchi's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd like to face the Yankees. Here's my thought on eliminating Oakland from the playoffs. We play Minny 8 times in the last 2 weeks. Assuming we have a big enough lead in the Central and that Oak. and Minny are running neck and neck for the wildcard, maybe we can "rest our starters" (wink-wink) for those 8 games and surprise surprise the Twins win the wild card and bye-bye Oakland!! -
Did I miss the date and details? Too lazy to read.

Badmouthing Cellular and the Whitesox
LosMediasBlancas replied to Steve Bartman's my idol's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:58 AM) I was switching channels yesterday and caught around the horn. The topic was the best team in the AL. Of course, Mariotti chose the Angels, the guy from Denver ruffled his ESPN bosses feathers with his proclamation that the White Sox would go all the way. Calishaw, I think his name is, will probably be suspended for saying the White Sox. And Plashke said it was the Angels, and took it to another level saying the Angels are privately saying they want to play the White Sox in the first round, thinking they will destroy them due to lack of playoff experience vs. the playoff tested Angels. Of course he didn't mention most of the Angels had no playoff experience when they won the World Series a few years ago. It used to make me mad, but now I just laugh. When the White Sox win it all watch how many of these guys claimed they saw it all along. I saw this too. The guy who was loving the Sox was holding his ground pretty well too. He kept saying that no one is picking the Sox, but they keep rolling. -

Um, if Kosher hot dogs and Chicago style pizza aren't not 'local specialties', then wtf is? -
Brazilian shot 7 times in the head in Britain
LosMediasBlancas replied to KipWellsFan's topic in SLaM
Dusty, is that you? "Secondly, I believe that the weather that day was something like 70 degrees. Not exactly blaring hot...especially when you're from Brazil." -

In a nutshell, yes, a heavy coat should draw suspicion, no, you should never run from the cops, ever and last, 5 slugs to the dome is kind of... uh excessive...espeically if the guy was pinned down. If you gotten that close to him, you've already risked getting blown to s***. -
Schmidt and Vizquel vs. Burnett and Lowell?? No Brainer Schmidt, Vizquel.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 04:21 AM) Ohhhh, I managed to get a couple wristbands on and off without breaking them back in the day, like the Metro drinking wristbands.... It's not easy to do, but to save the 60 bucks entry fee I'd say it's worth the effort. If you get lucky and they leave it too loose you can just slip it on and off, but that's rare. Usually they put them on nice and snug to prevent sharing.
-
QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) Free is always the best price, and it was cool of those people to give away their wristbands. It's also pretty amazing since you would have needed to break the wristband in order to get it off and then you can't put it back on.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Urge was great for two albums. Supersonic Storybook" and Saturation. I just never got the whole Pixies thing. People raved about them, but I found them to be terribly pretentious and boring. This is coming from a guy who enjoys much Prog Rock...or used to. Nice to see you come around.
-
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) Or maybe by getting back together they all remembered just how much they REALLY f***ING SUCK and have been miserably depressed to be playing that godawful crap again. Great, now we've all heard your opinion, which by the way, is no more valid than anyone else's....regardless of how big your caps are. :headshake

This guy is done under, .200 since joining the Twins. Rumor has it they are shopping him already.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) Good move buying the 35 buck presale - I remember some friends of mine skipping it because it looked for a while like the show wouldn't get off the ground, at least not at Grant Park. the lineup was a steal at 35 bucks, but IMO overpriced at 60 per day or 115 for both. Just not enough bands I wanted to see, but that's obviously just my opinion. I knew Dino would kill. They're the only band at Lolla that I'm sorry I missed. Glad you had fun, and glad you got out of that heat alive. I gambled and bought the tickets figuring of the 60+ bands there, I'd get my $$$ worth. Dino was 90% of the reason I even went, they alone were worth the $35.00. Hopefully Dino will play a small club here soon, let me know if you hear anything.

QUOTE(KJean @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) I didn't go to Lollapalooza unfortunately But I have seen The Redwalls perform live when they opened for Keane a few months ago and they played such a great set. I had never heard of them before, but they sure caught my attention. Plus they're all 20-22 years old which is amazing and they're all from the Chicago area. I also got to meet them after the concert (I swear I'm not a groupie) and, even though a couple of em were out of it ( ), they were a nice bunch of guys. And I've also seen The Killers in concert too, and I agree with you. It might have helped that I was front row and with all the action, but nothing that amazing. Glad you fun! Musically, The Redwalls have a very mature and grown up sound. If I didn't know better, I woulda thought they were a bunch of 40 something year olds. Lyrics ae kinda fluffy, but there is promise for these guys. I'm shamelessly biased toward Chicago bands.
