The AJ Burnett 24 Hour Window Thread

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) Van Dyke has a new article in the trib. The gist is the deal is on hold for the time being. However Kenny wants to sign AJ long term and Ozzie has only very very positive things to say about AJ. The big piece of the deal is the Sox deal is centered around Marte/Bmac, however, there is talk of an expanded deal that would include Contreras. At first I kind of shutter at the thought of this. However, if the Sox are going to make a trade they would be moving Contreras to the pen. Now whose to say Contreras would make a good closer. What if the Sox got depth in Lowell and Mota (who could definately do a very good job if healthy in the pen). Or could the Sox find some other help? I don't know, but it makes sense to get a guy like Mota. The only problem I'd have is that if the Sox deal Contreras and Bmac they have zero options if Duque or another starter goes down. The only problem I'd have is that if the Sox deal Contreras and Bmac they have zero options if Duque or another starter goes down. That doesn't sound like Ozzie at all, if Contreras is part of any deal, I think it would have to be one helluvah deal(s) favoring us. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) Throwing Contreras in is way too much. Marte+McArthy is almost too much, throw in Contreras and it's downright stupid. -
Day 2. Got back about 45 mins ago. The heat was insane, we took it very easy today. I saw very few people drinking beer, it was impossible not to run for shade and water. Dinosaur Jr. kicked major ass, haven't missed a beat. It was cool to see those guys again. I never thought that would happen. Perry Farrell's new band, Satellite Party is awesome. I had forgotten what a great front man and performer he is. After dancing and running around for an hour, the guy didn't have 1 drop of sweat on him, strange. This new outfit is funkier but there's no lack of balls either. The Killers? eh, sound just like they do on disc, but kinda fun. We left early and skipped on Widespread Panic. Critic, we paid the $35.00 for a 2 day pass pre-sale price but it would have been worth the $115.00. No one else went huh?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) In the Tribune, Dave Van Dyke said part of the requirement was Burnett had to sign an extension. It said a source indicated he would not sign with the White Sox. I heard the same thing this morning on espn radio. Burnett has no interest in signing with us. -
Anyone else get to go? The sound quality was awesome and I like the 5 stages idea. This way people keep moving around and it's difficult for people to camp out near the front of the stage. It gives everyone a chance to be up close for some of the performancees. Quick recap: The Redwalls-- short set but very good, hell of an opener for the fest And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead--OMG awesome, best perfromance of day 1, gonna be tough to beat. That band is a f***in monster. Liz Phair-- awful, horrible voice that sounds even worse live, BUT she did put on a few lbs. in all the right places and was lookin pretty tasty. Brian Jonestown Massacre- very, very good and no on stage brawling which is rare for them. Billy Idol- Hilarious and fun. Billy still does the lip snarl and mandatory posing, but still puts on a decent show, if you take it for what it is.....and the guy is in awesome shape, he must be 50 years old. The Pixies- it was fun to see them, but they didn't seem to overwhelm anyone. Weezer- They were the main headliner. I'm not a Weezer fan and they didn't win me over. Everyone else seemed to really dig them, we left early to beat the crowd. Day 2 in 104 degree heat should be interesting. Luckily they let you bring in bottled water and have plenty of refill stations. I might only do a few hours today, can't wait to see Dinosaur Jr!!!!!

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) That's a really ignorant comment if you're serious. I am serious. No one can guarantee us s*** about next year, or anything about all our so called prospects. When was the last time this team had a start this promising? All I'm saying is that if shipping these guys off in a trade improves our chances for this year, then I'd help them pack.

For a second I thought this thread was gonna be about a topic that's been beaten to death.

if it's a rumor, it's a good one.

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) If KW can pull this deal off.. He is going for it all this year and not worried about the future Future? what future? Oh the one that features, Borch, Diaz, etc

Bruce Levine on with Silvy and Carmen
LosMediasBlancas replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) Bruce is a real nice guy, we have had on our high school radio show about 6 times, as well as Rick Hahn. Both are really good guys. I bet he is. All we're saying is, often times he's not exactly accurate in what he reports. -
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) if the sox wouldnt deal contreras in this deal, i would not at all be surprised if contreras + lilly for schmidt and vizquel or burnett +mota Noooooooow you're thinkin'. Hmmmmmmmm.

Please file this rumor into the B.S. bin.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) It depends on what they get in return. for example? what could they get from us, that we would realistically part with, to have it make sense form their perspective?

why the Eff would Toronto do this?

QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) Career... 9-3, 2.65, 102 IP, 101 Ks http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hernaor01.shtml Thank you, next question It's a big part of why he's even here. I'd be shocked if we traded Duque or moved him to the pen.

Is it true we now have a losing record against teams playing above .500?? At least we still have chemistry.

Trying no to overreact, but this is bad. If you eliminate Thomas and KW does nothing before the trade deadline it's gonna get ugly in a hurry. Funny how some of us for a while have been saying that we need a starter, a reliever and a bat. It took only one game against the Red Sox for a lot of others to jump on board. For those of you who think there is not a player out there who would be that much of a help to us, you're pretty much saying we're as good as we're gonna get. In which case, we're f***ed in the post season.........assuming we can survive the rest of the season minus Frank and with our current team.

Nuke, you have a point about people living within their means. It's kind of like when pro athletes or Hollywood people go broke. If a pro athlete is living so extravagantly that he is living check to check and broke at the end of every month, then he is no better off than the average man. Sure he might have nicer s***, but he's stressing about money just like the next man.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) Maybe 2B and 1B. If Dye was playing, we'd have RF, too. I'll take that as a NO. Boston is a playoff team, wake up KW, wake up my man.
