The Downside to being 12 games up
LosMediasBlancas replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) But if we lose and we did something (for hypothetical purposes, say we obtain one of Guardado, Wagner, Griffey, Schmidt, or Burnett), then what? People will say we shouldn't have done something? Clearly he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. I know we all want to win the WS really bad, but I don't know if that's should be the basis for judging KWs deadline moves. NOPE, if he made all those moves and we lost it, I'd be dissapointed but not pissed at KW. Because on paper, those guys would give us an upgrade at overall talent and better chance at winning the WS. I know the game is not played on paper and there are upsets and nothing is a guarantee and look at the Yankees and all the talent they have, blah blah blah,..... but an upgarde at talent improves your chances. You go from hoping the Sox can upset a few teams in the playoffs to putting them in a good position to suceed. It's the difference between hoping it will happen and making it happen. -
The Downside to being 12 games up

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 01:31 AM) All we're hearing from KW and Ozzie is that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Sounds good on the surface. But in reality if the Sox were in a dogfight with the Twins they'd be far more aggressive and willing to add to this team, even if it cost some clubhouse favorites their ticket out of town. But they're not in a dogfight, so what's the point, right? Does that mean you don't look to improve? In terms of importance, does chemistry trump talent? Is this 12 game lead over the Twins keeping the Sox from improving the talent on their roster for fear of guys not getting along? In the league standings the Sox are 7 games up on the Angels. A bit more sobering and certainly worth watching when home field means so much. Boston won the WS last year and they're starting to make some moves. The Sox haven't won squat and they're standing pat? I don't like it. Who's to say a radical move like trading favorites like a Rowand or even a Konerko might not work out? Would you rather have Jermaine Dye or Ken Griffey Jr.? There's too much fear of messing up a good thing instead of thinking of making a good thing better. A great thing, even. I'm not saying I don't like a 12 game lead. Make it 20! This isn't about just beating the Twins. Or is it? C'mon man, don't you know the goal is just to stay 'competitive'? How dare you look beyond yesterday to what should be every team's goal: to win the WS. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:38 AM) She does not play nearly as much as she did 3-4 years ago. Not even close. In general, you're right, she doesn't play nearly as much. I'm referring to just how often she plays Nah Nah Hey Hey. It's still whenever an opposing pitcher gets roughed up and yanked and at the end of a Sox win. So let her do it right.
-
Depends on who I was with. With my wife, or coworkers, maybe 2. With the boys, as many as time will permit. The score doesn't matter.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) I think they don't play it much anymore because they've gone more in the direction of pre-recorded music - which IMO sucks. But it's not like they've cut her off completely. She still plays it just as often and at all the same times, it's just not as loud or for as long. She'll give you one, very quiet verse. I remember it used to go on and on and on. Either let her do it right, or not at all.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) I have said for years that "Na-Na" doesn't get played nearly enough. It should be played tons after HRs and pitching changes. If we want to make it a homefield advantage, these are things we should go back to. Be loud and proud! I totally agree. Some of the younger fans don't even know the tradition or the song. Do you think they've toned it down because nowadays sports in general has more of a 'no taunting' attitude. With all the thugs playing pro sports and all the fans wanting to jump into the arenas, maybe that's why.

QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) I remember Baldwin doing poorly against the Yanks, it was on espn... Best of luck to JB! I like your thinking. Gotta look at how a guy does against our potential playoff opponents.

He is not being shopped, but would be dealt if the M's are blown away by an offer, otherwise he's staying put.
-
Hot dogs and funnel cake.
-
Yeah, but think about how many they'd have to give away to make sure everyone had one at every game. But see if it became a tradition to just show up with one..........

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) They handed out rally socks opening day too... here's the one i got. they should do it weekly. I'd usually just bring one of my own.
-
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) Its not a White Sox tradition because it would be stealing another teams tradition and then trying to make it our own. Kind of like when different teams use the "Tomahawk chop", or when teams use the "terrible towels". I believe the Twins already have the towels, which look strikingly similar to White Sox. :shrugs: SB Um no, we'd be waving white socks and the name of our team is The White Sox. It couldn't be any more right.
-
QUOTE(joemg311 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) They gave out those rally socks on opening day .........and we see how well that went over.

Bill Mueller and/or Kevin Millar to the Twins?
LosMediasBlancas replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Why exactly would 2 potential playoff teams help each other out? -
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) Cause socks belong on your feet. Seriously though, your right. It kinda cought on in '93, and I remember it being quite a sight. In my lifetime I think I've seen them try it like 15 times. It'll be a craze for like 3 games, then it disappears.
-
Waving white socks should be a HUGE Sox tradition. Not sure why it never catches on.

How was Intonation (<sp?) this past weekend?
LosMediasBlancas replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in SLaM
sounds like. Are you doing Lolla too? -
I like it, I'd like it a lot more if we had the fan deck for our private party. Do we get the geeky: "Hello, My Screen Name Is" badges too?

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Maybe not--there was a big baby boom in FLA 9 months after all their hurricanes. I mean, the power's probably already out. . . Good point, 90 degree temps, no power, dark house, flooded roads.......
-
No mention of "Riders On The Storm"-The Doors "Shook me all night long" AC/DC...oh wait, wrong kind of shaking.

Brad Sellers. He had been in the league for two years and I saw him play in a tourney during the offseason. High school kids were dunkin' on him. I mean nuts in his face nasty style. He was a soft, worthless woman.
