  1. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) If you don't want Hawkins cause he sucked as a Cub, you are totally neglecting the reason for his suckage. The Cubs used him as a closer. He cannot close ballgames. But IIRC, on the rare occasion that the Cubs used him correctly, he has some success in the middle innings and set-up role. Remember, he sucked as a closer in Minnesota too. Once Everyday Eddie emerged as a quality closer, they moved LaTroy to setup man and he flourished. For simply swapping him with Shingo, I have little doubt that it would be an upgrade. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that his last 2 apperances with the Cubs were in like 7th inning situations......and he went from nightmare to comedy.
  2. Ok, now that I've restarted my heart and had a few minutes to digest... I think the trade is almost an even exchange, so what's the point? Also, do you really see LaToya coming back to Chicago? Part of the reason he failed here was he couldn't handle the media's pressure cooker. I know it would be a different team and a different role, but do you see it going any better? You don't think the media is icing a hard on for him right now?
  3. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) And from what I hear, it got it good. I know, that fkn sux. From a very selfish point of view, maybe it will be even cheaper there now, at least next year.
  4. Oh c'mon, like none of us have ever fibbed or streched the truth for a little action.
  5. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) I think I want Baltmore or NY to get the wildcard, so we play them...I don't want to play a west coast team in the first round...l like our chances better against NY What needs to happen for us to face Ana. in the 1st round??
  6. FINALLY. I don't think it's too soon to talk about playoffs. So let's quit spooging about beating up on the central and take on the biger fish. August will tell us a lot, unfortunately it comes after the trade deadline. Ana. and Balt. worry me. I'm kinda rooting for the Twins in the WC, if it keeps the Yankees out. We have 7 games against the Twins in late oct. maybe we can (wink wink) rest our starters for some of those games.
  7. I'm sure you guys can understand the frustration. He sounds like what a few of our players said about the Twins of 2001-2003. Finally, when a team kicks your ass over and you over, you realize, hey maybe they ARE the beter team. He'll come around.
  8. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) Do you or anyone else have a link to the audio of that somewhere? I wouldn't mind hearing that again myself. I never actually heard it, I bet it's awesome. ey, eye wass onleh keedin.
  9. It's gonna smash Playa del Carmen, damn.
  10. Here's my plan: I'm gonna show up just boo and bash the best player we had on the team the past few years because he decided he didn't want to stay here any more. He also, gasp, took a better offer from another team, while he was hurt in order to secure his family's future. Then tomorrow when the media is calling all Sox fans, bitter and stupid etc. for booing him instead of enjoying this season, I'll whine about how the media picks on us.
  11. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) After thinking about it, this whole damn thread is stupid. There is nothing wrong with what Konerko said, and if you think there is then you're just looking for something to complain about because you dislike Paul. Ridiculous. I'm out of here.
  12. Call me crazy, but I see nothing wrong with what Konero said. Maggs was a great baseball player the entire time he played with Pauly. Arguably the best he's ever played with. In terms of Pauly not being on board with the rest of the team this year, that may be true, but not in this case. I haven't heard a Sox player rip Maggs, so why is Pauly praising Maggs considered not being on board?
  13. But I thought Shingo would be unhittable forever.
  14. 14 games back is tough enough, but if they get swept, it will be the dagger. Let's put these guys away and gear up to do the same to Minny.
  15. Yaaawn, Randa again eh? Every team and their Mom wants Randa. They'll wanna rape us, I'd be shocked if it happens. Let me guess, they want a starter they can plug in right now and prospects. Next.
  16. I don't think we're gonna do anything major in terms of an upgrade. Every time a hear a rumor about us getting this guy or that guy, I hear another rumor about another team getting that same guy and usually it makes waaaaaaaaaaay more sense for the other team to get him. Surprise me KW.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 04:49 AM) Insomnia's a b****. We're the lucky ones. Sleep is overrated, we'll sleep plenty when we're dead. Why sleep a third of our lives away??
  18. Saw 'the Wedding Crashers' today. Funny, not hilarious but if you're in the mood for it, it's worth the matinee price.
  19. I'm confused. It says he hit the boy in the head AND in the groin. With one pitch? Or did he throw at him twice?......... or did he actually punch the kid?
  20. Did anyone happen to notice what it reads under their photo in that article?
  21. Wow, I'm still clearing the cob webs from last night. Did I mention I was going to the Cubs game before the concert? (don't ask, I had to take clients) We got a super late start after the game and didn't even hit the road til 5:30. Arrival time? 6:30, no traffic on I-57 or I-80, no problem, Thx again guys!
  22. Yes, many times. Becasue of work, it's tough for me to plan ahead, so I always seem to walk up and get tickets. If I was lucky enough to get out at 5:00, I'd jump on the El and go alone. OR I'd go to those few mid week day games. Schedule a half day, leave at noon and go. It's easier to sneak down to a good seat if you're alone too.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) Los, is it not true that with further strenuous force on the back, the disk can sever the nerve???? I don't know, but I suppose it's possible. Those nerves are a pretty thick wall, so maybe one huge, sudden strain causing a major disk shift could do it. Believe me, if it came anywhere close to that, he'd be in bed afraid to move.
  24. If you're not squeamish, here's a pic of an MRI. Notice how that bottom disk pushes into the white area. That area is all nerves. http://www.emedx.com/emedx/diagnosis_infor...sk_saggital.gif
  25. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) I don't think KW is going to bring in Randa because of this. He will check out Crede and see how the cortisone shots are working (I believe you can only have 3 a season, supposedly) and if he's swinging alright. If not, I'm sensing one of those waiver deals after the trade deadline. Don't know who, but that's my pseudo-GM guess. If there is 3 shot per season limit, he's f***ed. It depends on the severity of his situation. There are a lot of terms for the same disk injury; herniated, slipped, proplasped, bulging, inflamed etc. Maybe it's not severe since they were unable to see it right away. I know on my MRI it was crystal clear.
