Thomas, Buehrle give Maggs warm reception
LosMediasBlancas replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) By every other industry do you mean in the world of you and me..? If so, I don't agree. But in the sports world I definitely do which is what I meant above. It's difficult to say if it's true in the world of you and me because not many of us have companies throwing tons of cash at us and trying to outbid each other for our services. I think most people would take cash over loyalty. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) It didn't, but it can. Just ask AJ. ....but AJ ended up on the team with the best record in baseball. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) And my response would be that they reap what they sow as well. Those people will never get good reviews or recommendations by burning their bridges, and they will never have their old bosses or customers respect, just like Maggs. Again, I see your point and how it might apply to the average man. But Maggs has how many millions of reasons to not give a f***? Assuming Maggs puts up good numbers and decides to leave Detroit, do you really think his little media tussle with the Sox will hurt him? That's naive. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) But the question is would I lie to and about my former bosses to other potential employees and customers? Would I cover up certian things that are vital to the ability to preform my job to the ability that they are paying me for? If you are going to paint analogies, make them apt. For those who want to make the Maggs thing, just about the money... it isn't. Do you see threads about people wanting to boo anyone else from the Sox who contibuted, yet left through free agency? Did Robin Ventura ever get booed when he came back here? Did Harold Baines ever get booed? No, and it is because they handled things like professionals. If Maggs would have handled his business like an honest adult, everyone would still love him around these parts. Instead he got exposed for what he is. In response to your 1st paragraph, your answer might be No, but for other it's a HELL YES. People do it every day and for far, far less money. -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) "Special" went out if style with the Ripken era, IMO. The signing of ARod changed loyalty of players to teams and cities. It's all about the $$. ..........as it is in every other industry, so why should/would it be any different in sports? With the astronomical salaries today, it's all about play, don't get hurt and get paid. -

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) I agree with your post for the most part, with the exception of how Maggs left, which I thought was really s***ty. BUT, I am going to play devil's advocate just for the sake of being a b****. I don't know where you work, but I would imagine you don't have 30,000 fans at your job every day cheering for you and paying for your paycheck with their own money. I would also leave if offered a larger amount of money, but Maggs turned down a similar offer. Got injured, concealed the injury, signed a new agent, and pretty much turned his back on us. I don't really care...as I don't think any huge deal to any position player benefits a mid-salary team like the Sox...plus Maggs arm looks about half as strong as it used to be which I thought was really weird... Discuss............ You make a good point and IMO you're not being a b****. Wherever Maggs plays there will be 30,000 people cheering him and paying his salary, so why would that make Chicago so frickin' special to him? -
Where do you think Shingo will go?

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) oh come on now, there are far more disappointing players in the bigs. dan kolb, for example. In less than one year, Shingo went from unittable to unusable. -

I know there is a most improved player, or come back player award. Is Shingo close to the unofficial biggest flop award recipient? Think about how his stock fell in less than ONE year. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) I believe almost everyone here has had a co-worker leave and join a competitor. Just because they leave doesn't make them a bad person. There really isn't much of a difference in sports. Look at players like Sandy Alomar who the team dumped. Why isn't there boos for Kenny and JR? Because that move probably helped the team. If Timo or Willie took better deals, half the posters here would cheer. Maggs leaves and he's a bad guy? Kong answered the question honestly. I didn't read any of his team mates ripping him for the quote. I enjoy where I work and I work with some of my best friends, but if a competitor called and offered me a better deal, I'd be gone by lunch time. Pro sports is a JOB, like it or not, loyalty rarely exists, from either players or owners. Why the Eff would players be loyal to a team they probably didn't follow as a kid, or a city that they are probably not even from. Hell, Maggs is not even from this frickin country. How much of a sentimental connection do you think he has to the Sox? -
I heard it this morning and it seems like a natural progression for Mike. He's a violent, convicted sex offender. Now that he can't fight any more, all that's left is... well, sex. Cash money says the sales, rentals and downloads go through the roof.

Crede not the only one with back issues
LosMediasBlancas replied to Frank the Tank 35's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) I've been hearing from all over(an example is BBTN) that the Phillies won't deal him, Utley or Abreu at the deadline. They think Wagner is a huge part of the team and that he's a difference between wins and losses. Gammons also said that he expects Wagner to resign with Philly. Weeeeell, if Peter Alzheimers said it, book it. -

LosMediasBlancas replied to Frank the Tank 35's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The White Sox aren't even a team that's seriously being mentioned as being in the hunt for Wagner.............now the RED Sox on the other hand are said to be close in getting Wagner and get this, Thome too. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) I'm now 50-50 of getting a direct hit tomorrow night I'm the sliver of green in Texas, that's green of a different meaning Tex, any chance Houston will get hit?

I think KW means what he's saying, but I hope you guys are right and that he's blowing smoke. If he's serious and we make no moves, then I'm concerned. I see 2 or 3 teams that might give us problems in the post season. We'll learn a lot more about this Sox team in August.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!

I haven't read all 4 pages of this thread, but Crede's pose after the 3 run bomb was AWESOME. I hope we see a lot of posters come from that and it WILL be part of the '05 highlight reel. I haven't been that pumped in a long time. Thx Joe!! -
Anyone with a review of the bands' performances? Is that how you spell the name of the fest?

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) half price night + maggs return + good weather = it might not be a good night to bring the kids to a game today. I've got a bad feeling about this Oh can you tell there will be a nice number of Sox fans out ther acting like childish idiots?.......but that's just a media creation I'm sure. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) That's not how Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen feel. Ross Gload would start at 1B maybe once every two weeks to once a month. Like them or not, Timo and/or Willie play more positions, have more speed, and are more usable right now than a one dimensional player who can only play one position, which just happens to be where a guy who is going to play everyday plays at. Gload can't run, can't throw, and only plays 1B. Yeah he would be a nice pinchhitter, but why would you keep a guy on your bench who might get 2-3 ABs a week? He would be the positional equivilent of Shingo. I'd play Gload waaaaaaay more often then that. I don't know what the anti-Gload vibe from Oz is all about?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) Good post. Another way to say it, the best record in franchise history through 90 games. This is the best White Sox team at this point in the season EVER. Think about that... Nah, why think about that when I can boo an ex-Sox player instead? -
I think it's kinda sad and not cool at all.
-
QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) yeah....wound up being the guy No s***
-
Sorry but this is kinda funny, cuz you know going into it the guy was thinking: Let's see here, 15 chicks, booze and me. One of them is gonna give up the cookies. Talk about taking a turn for the worse, lmao.

QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) I think alot of stations throw alot of s*** out there and see what sticks. So they can say they were the first to report it of course, it's a cheap way to get people to tune in.
