QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Well, if any of you venture east of the expressway (heading over to the Green Line stop), that whole area has been transformed. There's even a Jimmy John's and a Starbucks. I think there's even a huge open lot right there across from ITT. But yeah, having to hike over to Halsted now before or after the game does suck. RIP Jimbo's. .....even Jimbo's was kind of a hike.

I'll be in Chicago from Dec. 7th-14th. Any good shows during that time?

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) it's now 15 years after probably the greatest american documentary they is http://tinyurl.com/ydxcjv8 bmags, IIRC you're a Mamet fan. Have you watched 'Edmond' with William H. Macy? Curious to hear your thoughts.

I'm all for the idea, but I'm curious to see what type of businesses open up there. If it's the Gap, TGI Fridays and Sbarro Pizza-mall type-Navy Pier-tourist trap BS, then it's gonna suck.

What Did You Want To Be When You Grew Up?
LosMediasBlancas replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in SLaM
FBI agent. The FBI came to our house once when I was about 10 years old. I already found them very interesting, but after that, I thought they were the most bad-ass mutha-phuckers out there. -
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) What album did they cover? It was rumored to be 'Thriller' on Halloween night which woulda been VERY interesting. It ended up being Exile On Main Street. What ever happened to The Redwalls?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Or how about when you're the godparent to a couple's first born. Then they have other kids and you feel guilty showing up with gifts for just one kid on Christmas. Great point. I'm not a parent, but what's with the 'every kid gets a gift regardless of the ocassion' trend?? If it's not your b-day or graduation, etc, you don't get s***. It's not your moment. That's part of life and a good lesson.

Stopped in to that 3 day Phish8 Fest over Halloween. I'm not a fan, but it was practically held in my back yard and the tix were free, so I checked it out. Gotta love the bandwagon effect. 75% people getting high, 10% people looking to hook up, 15% fan base.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) So, I've got a ton of weddings coming up. People who are in their upper twenties and lived on their own for the past 5-7 years. Or lived with their future spouse. And I know this will sound petty, but do people in that age range really need engagement parties, showers AND then gifts at the wedding? Seriously? How many sets of dishes do you need? How many linen table cloths? How many board games and vacuum bags? I understand the whole wedding shower thing from when people were moving straight from their parents into their own household, but now? When I have friends that buy a house, have a house warming party, then get engaged, have an engagement party, a shower, and then a wedding. Come on. That's just f***ing greedy. However, I don't mind baby showers. Sorry, rant over. Being asked to be a God parent is bad too. It can get expensive, especially if everyone is asking you. It's not something you can say no to either. Also, it's not a one time thing. That kid will have B Days, graduations, first communions etc. I have 3 God kids, it's a never ending expense.

Seems like a really slow time for movies at theaters right now.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) I watched Wanted last night. Good lord that movie sucked. I want that time back in my life yeah, but Chicago looked fantastic in a few scenes.....and Jolie has never looked hotter.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) I looked into it briefly. Depending on the country you are going to, a TEFL certification can get you some definite salary bumps. Korea has a very interesting english teacher program. They put you up for free, you teach English, they pay you between 21 and 30K a year. Wouldn't you need to know Korean pretty well?....and if you're teaching advanced levels of English, in English only classrooms, wouldn't you need to know English pretty well?..... I mean advanced grammar, not just basic conversation.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) I watched Citizen Kane for the first time last night. Granted I was tired, but the movie didn't do much for me. It's considered one of the greatest films of all time. Can someone go into some detail on why it is so good? HOLY CRAP I agree with the Milkman. Very few people can explain it or go into detail as to why it supposedly is so great. Most people just feel like they have to like it because they've been told it's the greatest film of all time.

Zambrano: Sox One of Three Teams He Would Go To
LosMediasBlancas replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) you guys should have heard Coop a few days ago when Rongey asked him about this. Coop said "There is no chance that asshole comes and plays here. You got that? That asshole isnt playing here" Not completely verbatim, but VERY close. And he called him an asshole about 4-7 times in a small period of time I hope Coop really said that. I would quit following the team for as long as that prick was wearing a Sox jersey. -
QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) What are "floor wipers"? An ab exercise. Basically, it's leg raises but you're laying on your back on the floor holding a loaded barbell, arms locked away from you, as if you were ready to bench press, but the bar never moves. You raise your legs up toward your right shoulder, then down to the floor, then up toward your left shoulder. I've never tried them because I have awful balance and it looks like there is so much room for disaster there.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 11:55 PM) I just saw The Black Dahlia. My god was that bad. How does Josh Hartnett have a career after all that mumbling? All his films need to have subtitles. Don't you know mumbling makes you a genius? Del Toro, J Phoenix....

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 07:19 AM) Don't self-diagnose, it is dangerous. Not if it leads to self medicating.

It sometimes seems like Ozzie goes off on his team, or certain players, in order to avoid any of the blame.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) Yes, this is terrible. And likely it is the reason you are a HUGE music fan — you have been trying your whole life to compensate for the big hole left by the lack of Beatles music and nothing is cutting it. ...but I have listened to a lot of Beatles music and I'm preeeeeetty sure that's ^ not the case.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) I can't believe 7 people actually posted that they have never listened to a Beatles album all of the way through. You all are missing out on one of the biggest influences on modern music out there. I'm a HUGE music fan and I'll admit that I have never put on a Beatles record and listened to all of it, straight through, from beginning to end. In fact, I never owned a Beatles record. Does '#1" count? Uh, sorry.
-
I'm not a huge fan, but for me it's anything pre 'Revolver'. Although I've grown to appreciate and even like some of the later stuff, it's still the very early stuff that does it for me. The song writing and the vocal harmonies still blow me away.

J Dilla has never really looked like happy man in a Sox uni.

QUOTE (juddling @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 12:07 AM) Back when i was at SIU and they had the crappy phone system (3 or 4 rooms to a line) i picked up the phone and happened to find on the other line a girl looking for someone else. we ended up talking because she had a sexy voice (for me that was a bit of a rasp and a southern accent). We agreed to meet that night at one of the bars downtown. I got there early with my friends and was totally gone by the time our 11pm meeting rolled around. I told her what i was wearing so she approached me in the bar and said "Hi Bill....i'm Denise." to which i drunkenly responded "Hi Denise .....boy....you sure didn't sound fat on the phone!!!!" That is a quote I'm still reminded of to this day by people that were there 20 years ago!!! Sounds like things weren't going to end well even if Denise had been hot. It's probably bettter that she wasn't. There's nothing worse than being too drunk to talk to a hot chick.
