The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 01:40 AM) Fox, CNN, and NBC all have it at 52-47% right now which really isn't that close. Thx, my figures were from a couple of hours ago.

The Great Southern California Shakeout thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) Well, so we never have to worry about earthquakes in Dallas, Texas, right? Nope. We had two of them last night. I think I felt one, it felt like the washing machine was on spin cycle. They were a 2.5 and 3.0, those would barely be felt. Nothing like a washer in spin.

All I can say is Whew. Most interesting figure: 51-48% in the pop vote, that's pretty close. I can only scratch my head.

Video Game Catch-All Thread
I've never lived in a house or apartment where the flush-lever-arm thing inside the toilet didn't break. Seems like this bit of technology should have been perfected by now.

I watched 'What Just Happened' tonight. Above average, decent rental.

OK WTF with Those Kickass Division Champ Hats?
I've never really understood buying division champ or even league champ merchandise. Sure it's an accomplishment and all, but it just seems kinda silly to me. If we would have lost the WS in 05 to the Stros, I wouldn't be walking around with a '2005 AL champs' cap on my head. Are all the Cub fans walking around with '2008 NL Central champs' caps? Because that would be laughable.

Music Thread
I was sitting in Starbucks this morning and the down tempo, acoustic overhead music caught my ear for some reason. The woman's voice was familiar and the lyrics were too for some reason. And then: She bop--he bop--a--we bop I bop--you bop--a--they bop Be bop--be bop--a--lu--she bop Cindy Lauper remade an acoustic version of this. It would be like replacing s*** with vomit.

Another theory on cubs collapse...
QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) The tat looked fake to me. .....along with the story. With Cub fans the story is always about them, not the team. Probably the most attention hungry group of people.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 02:33 AM) I wish I had shown up an hour later and just seen The Hold Steady then Patterson Hood play like 6 covers up there on stage with THS. It's not that Drive-By Truckers were bad, it's just they've embraced this Lynyrd Skynyrd knockoff sound that hicks flock to. It was kind of sad, because all the things that make DBT different from your run-of-the-mill southern rock snooze just evaporates in the live show and they turn into a cheesy cliche. Part of this "rural" crowd might have come from me going to see a show in Louisville (which is so small we couldn't even get lost in it btw). The Hold Steady closed and they were great, I've seen them a few times now and this was by far the best. They had a really Seperation Sunday heavy setlist, I think they came 2 songs short of playing the entire album, so if you're planning on catching them on this tour you might want to listen to that one a few more times. Craig brought a lot of energy, but anybodies who seen The Hold Steady knows that. They did have some sound issues and Tad Kubler got lost on the setlist a few times. It was worth $30, but I'd prefer to see them somewhere were the old people aren't being drunken wet blankets during both sets. I would definitely make sure I'd catch a show that The Hold Steady are closing too... the final encore was insane. 'And if she says we partied, than I'm pretty sure we partied, I really don't remember, I remember we departed from our bodies we woke up in New York City and we're The Hold Steady" Am I close?

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 26, 2008 -> 07:25 PM) I don't mind Brad Pitt at all. I think he is pretty talented. Now that Milkman mentioned it, his best roles are in supporting. 12 Monkeys, Snatch, True Romance (Yes!). I think he is fine in leading roles as well. Looking forward to him in the Tarantino WWII flick. Floyd!

Bruce Levine on ESPN 1000
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) Shot in the dark. Detroit Press has been saying Maggs is going to be traded for salary relief. I would LOVE to have Maggs as our DH or as a replacement for Dye if he is traded. Maggs still has alot of hitting left in him and is a contact guy that this team would benefit from in the middle of the order, especially behind Q. Don't tease me that way.

'Burn After Reading' was good, silly fun. Brad Pitt is an under rated as an actor, he does comedy pretty well.

'Dead Man Walking' at the last few moments before the execution. If that doesn't put a lump in your throat, check your pulse.

2009 Starting Pitchers
I've only had two beers tonight and still these are two of the funniest things I've read on here in a while.....and they're true: "Anybody that wants Boone Logan is a nutcase. His pitches scream hit me at all times." "Anyone saying that they'd prefer Contreras over Vazquez is plain and simple stupid."

2008 World Series - Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 12:45 AM) You'd think the networks were praying for Boston-Philly. They get the Rays who never even had a decent fan base at home til this year much less a national fan base. Nobody's gonna watch, folks. Beat me to it. Lowest WS TV ratings ever, book it.

I love tequila, but Cuervo is just poison. Unfortunately, that's all that was available tonight. Hadn't had it in years, two shots and I was done. Luckily I have a few Tecates to keep me company.
