  1. sounds like all of my high school dates.
  2. i used to be a huge fan of risk. i played for years but never, ever won. now i think risk just sucks, even though i miss hearing about kamchatka on a regular basis. in terms of games i enjoy trivial pursuit. when i play with my daughter it's pretty much chutes and ladders, candyland, or her personal fave "don't wake daddy."
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) They won by double figures at Iowa in both 03-04 and 04-05. The game they actually struggled against Iowa was in Assembly Hall. yeah, i do remember winning by double digits at iowa, but those were games where we struggled then pulled away late. last year's game there was just horrid to watch.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) If you read his post backwards, it saids "Bill Webber is the devil"
  5. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) Maybe Weber will learn its not right or funny to do mock funerals anymore. this is relevant to this topic how?
  6. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) Yep. Every single rumor on this site last week is coming true. And Jamar on the bench last night is absolutely pathetic. Smith and McBride, and did Frazier get one? no. smith and mcbride are responsible for the dui's that have happened under weber's watch.
  7. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) Brian and I avoid this at all costs. Confuses the hell outta people since we both have Irish heritage. no doubt it is an acquired taste.
  8. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) Maybe Illinois should just clean house completely and start over with the program ala Baylor. i don't think this reaches even close to the level of what happened at baylor, so i'll disagree on that point. personally, i want to wait until the facts are revealed before making any decisions in this (excepting jamar, who i've said should be gone). there are a lot of variables out there, but there's also no clear timeline to me of what happened. for example, it sounds bad if people say jamar called wayne mcclain and asked him what to do. first, no one knows what wayne said, when he might have been called, or where that call relates in the timeline of events. it's impossible to draw conclusions until those facts are out there. same with the six players. on its face that just sounds bad. but again, what was the time frame we're talking about? i've read in some places that 911 was called when jamar was driving his effed up car back into the complex. if that was the case, what is normal response time for medics to arrive? five minutes? 10 minutes? and when in relation to this did jamar and chester go to the car. i just think there's a lot of questions here that need to be answered before we decide to discontinue the program. some of these things may end up being worse than we thought, or they may end up being a lot more explainable.
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) How do you think Louis Farrakhan felt? LOL! i used to walk past his house every day when i went to kellogg. i still remember the guards outside watching me suspiciously when i went on my way. maybe they thought i was there to steal the bean pies.
  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) Ah, but were you a Catholic or were you a "public"? We Beverly Catholics never much cared for those publics growing up. And we St. Barnabas Beverly Catholics didn't much care for those Christ the Kingers either. And don't even get me started on those jerks from Cajetan or Fisher. . . I Kid Because I Care® interesting. a barnabas kid. i still have fond memories of the school brawls that would inevitably break out on 100th street around hurley park. and yes, i was one of those scourge "publics." i went to sutherland, then kellogg, then morgan park. i'm also neither irish nor catholic, which makes me wonder how the heck i ended up in beverly.
  11. i haven't been there for years but i used to attend every year. growing up in beverly it was a short walk. i'm coming home for it for the first time this year. i'm not irish, but my girlfriend is and she's tired of hearing me talk about how good of a time it is. i'm in!
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 04:42 AM) What would be a whole lot better in this situation is if people actually put some time and resources into helping Native Americans. The poverty rate, health profiles, education levels, etc. are abysmal on the reservations. In the end, this doesn't actually do anything for them. great point. i think that the university could have salvaged the chief by making a few concessions or showing a desire to invest in native americans, whether it was by establishing a great native american studies program, funding a scholarship endowment for native american students, or something of that nature. but, as i mentioned earlier people were pretty much unwilling to compromise on either side, so the debate never got past "the chief must stay/the chief must go." EDIT: upon further review illinois does indeed have an american indian studies program.
  13. maybe i'm naive, but i'm not really worried at this point. i just think his agent is playing the game. imo, lovie will have a new contract by the beginning of next year. jmho but i would be shocked if that wasn't the case.
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 05:24 AM) All things considered, I was really impressed with the Illini win tonight. Just win the next 2, they won't leave a 22-9 (10-6) team from the Big 10 out of it. A split (ie loss at Iowa, they'll win at Penn State) and you gotta get a win in Chicago IMO to assure a bid. i'd agree with that. i also am not real confident in either of these two final games. we never play well at iowa (even the dee, deron, lu team struggled there) so i would almost write that one off. even penn state is shaky in my mind. that same group is essentially the one that beat us last year in champaign. and although they're record blows, they have played better of late. but, nice win last night. good to have a game to talk about for a day or two.
  15. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) ok, so what Chester did wasnt legally "wrong" but to leave your teammate/friend is just plain despicable. This just shows what kind of person he is... i'd disagree with that. first off, we don't know what chester did or didn't do yet. this is mostly speculation. besides, i don't think anyone deserves to have the entirety of their character judged by one incident. that's just silly.
  16. another new one tonight. supposedly some "questions" get answered. why do i expect the answers to lead to 10 more questions.
  17. QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) Didn't see this anywhere yet. Jamar pleading not guilty. However, I doubt there is anyway this case ever makes its way to trial. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2773947 i sure hope not. the last thing i need to see right now is a f***ing trial.
  18. the unfortunate sidenote in this whole thing is that both sides were utterly unwilling to compromise on any level.
  19. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) As a sad follower...this is a kid who decided to be ridiculously stupid one night and almost killed his teammate. I don't think you dump him and leave him out to dry. The staff are the adults, the players are the kids. You wouldn't dump your child out on the street, would you? I'm not saying he should ever play hoops for the Illini again, but there has got to be a way to at least offer Jamar a chance to redeem himself without completely turning your back on him. When I was at U of I, there was a party on the fourth or fifth floor in one of those courtyard apartments and a VERY drunk freshman was sitting on the rail and fell backwards, killing himself. The students that threw the party were not kicked out of school. They were sentenced to do community service and I think, if I remember correctly, one withdrew on his own. As I said before, yank his scholarship, pull him off the team, but don't kick him out of school. If he EVER wants to play for the Illini again, he is going to have to earn it himself. If not, then, he'll disappear. But, turning your back on a kid making mistakes that many people his age have made is very rough. Call me a bleeding heart. Call me a follower. It's my opinion, FWIW. nine out of ten times i'd agree with you. i just think that at this point it's weber's responsibility to throw down the gauntlet in terms of what is acceptable and what is not. it can be argued that he's been weak on punishments in the past and that contributed to this incident. i have a hard time drawing a straight-line relationship between the two, but you can make an effective argument that way. i also think some of this decision may not even be in weber's hands. guenther has seen what has gone on in the program over the past year and he must be concerned. i wouldn't be surprised if he's already told weber how this is going to end.
  20. you really have to feel for those kids. when you are a parent you must keep your kids' priorities above all. it's clear that is not the case with brit.
  21. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Feb 20, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) Can someone please explain to me how Chief Illiniwek is offensive to an extinct tribe of Native Americans? If he went out hammered and dealt blackjack at center court, wouldn't that be more stereotypical and offensive? Illinois is not the Redskins, Indians, Savages, Braves. They are the Illini, the same as the Seminoles, and the like. Hell, just to prove a point, the Irish Illini in favor of the Chief should start b****ing about Fighting Irish. Maybe get that changed, I'm not of Irish decent, but if White Americans can b**** and pull weight in how offensive the Chief is to Native Americans, shouldn't I, a non-Irish American be able to say how offensive that damn Leprechaun is? Or the fact that the Irish are portrayed as green wearing, fighting drunks? Political Correctness to the extreme like this is ruining America. i think much of the quarrel is that some (not all) native americans find this kind of portrayel of a native american chief in general to be offensive. we don't have much of a frame of reference for the role indian chiefs played in their societies, because it wasn't like this person was a president, mayor, or any other typical person in power we are familiar with. a chief was as much a religious and spiritual leader as anything else. in this vein, many people are offended by seeing someone who held religious prominence acting as a mascot. i'd imagine catholics would be offended if a guy in a pope hat pranced around at halftime. as for the notre dame comparison, i don't think it is particularly valid. although notre dame is the "fighting irish" it's mascot is a fictional creature--a leprechaun. thus, no one really has a problem with it. i am guessing people would take issue if the fighting irish mascot was a red-nosed, red-eyed drunk who stumbled out at halftime, sang a few pogues songs, dug a potato out of the ground, then challenged charlie weis to a fight.
  22. normally i'm pretty lenient in my assessment of stuff like this. it wasn't that long ago that i was that age and made some bad decisions i'm happy didn't make it into a newspaper. all that said, this story is disturbing and just gets worse. smith should be done. period.
  23. foulke will always have a part of sox history if for no other reason than he was the best thing we got out of the white flag trade.
  24. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 09:39 AM) I was referring to mainly the off the court problems for this team. Bad injuries (near death even), the number of injuries, suspensions, recruiting, guys not finishing the year, sickness/disease, etc. Then you throw in the bad basketball, and it's pretty terrible. yeah, it's been pretty much one thing after another since the washington loss last year.
  25. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 17, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) Down goes Florida at Vanderbilt. i'm not too surprised, only because vandy gave florida a run a few weeks ago in gainesville.
