  1. hats off to the illini. no huge game from dee or augie. down 11 points early. trailing huge in the free throw category yet still coming out with a big-time win at one of the big ten's toughest venues. this team answered a lot of questions tonight. by far the best win of the year.
  2. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 12:48 AM) Great half, really. Randle has been all over the glass, having him on the floor the whole time has been great. These guys can defend, plain and simple. Sure you can say Wisky is missing shots, but look at some of the shots we've forced them to take. This defense with our starters in is superb. Let's play another 20 solid minutes of ball and take hold of 1st outright. no doubt. randle is the man so far. getting to the second half in good foul situation is so key. you can see his confidence growing. bo will have them ready to roll though. this second half should be a war.
  3. QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) , "iowa style" = the ridiculously awful way we played when we lost to you guys, offense and defense. whew. i thought it involved corn. thanks. i was worried.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) whose Farve? your farve.
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) However, I must say that I assume that if Britt switches to Rutgers, it is due to the fact he would qualify there, but not at U of I. i don't know. rutgers is very, very strong academically. equal to or better than ui (and considering i hold a ui degree that is not easy to say). of course, a lot of times it isn't so much the overall academic situation at a school as it is the amount of "at-risk" kids a program can take in a given year. this is part of the reason cumberland ended up at illinois over osu. osu was at its limit of at-risk kids, so cumberland committed to ui, which is a better academic school.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) I don't buy it yet. Nothing on rivals, and they almost always find out stuff like this first. hope you're right.
  7. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) Ok in the recent 3 years, some very high recruited players are going to Duke, Illinois from the Chicagoland area..geez. no worries. it is a.g.
  8. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) Marlon London went to KU. Those names you just listed go way back in the day. Name me a recruit duirng the kruger era who came from CPL. I belive the first for years was Luther Head. marlon london was not a chicago kid. he was from broadview and attended st. joes. he also stayed at kansas for two years before transferring to depaul. it is true that there were bad relation between illinois and some city coaches during kruger's era. but luther, calvin brock and marcus arnold have all been city kids (from chicago) who have recently joined the team. you said all chicago kids go to duke and kansas and you have yet to produce one name other than sherron collins and sean dockery and i produced those for you.
  9. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) That is totally true. Most of your recruits were from Peoria. Chicago recruits go to Kansas and Duke, not illinois. really? who was the last chicago kid to go to kansas prior to sherron collins? and julian wright does not count because he is from the burbs. who was the last chicago kid to go to duke prior to sean dockery? and jon scheyer doesn't count because he is from the burbs. luther head, kiwane garris, deon thomas, eddie johnson, nick anderson, marcus liberty, ken norman, calvin brock, efrem winters, marcus arnold. those are chicago players off the top of my head who went to illinois and contributed. if i want to research it, that list will get longer.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Ehh Scheyer was going to Duke no matter what, even if we had Self still. JuJu went to Kansas because him and his mother LOVE Self going back to when he started contacting him during his last year at Illinois. Collins is really the first guy we lost because of an angry coach, and I hope this isn't a continuing trend. It's just so hard to get those CPL guys to like you, they are all money hungry frauds and you really have to be a good salesmen and talker, and I'm guessing they don't like the brutal honesty Bruce uses. Either way though, there are good players all over and Bruce is starting to show he can get them. be careful with the broad-based generalizations. illinois has a long and successful history with the cpl. just because two coaches have been pissy lately it's inaccurate to lump them all together.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Next year for the Illini will be one of those 20-10, #6 seed in the NCAA tournament kind of seasons. It will be fun to watch and see who steps up as the stud though, and I will enjoy it, although the new standards around Champaign will have people jumping off buildings. Also, Brian Carlwell is going to be a monster, about 6'11 265 with great hands. He just needs to continue to work on the post moves, the thought of him, Pruitt, and Jackson beating people's asses inside is nice. you are a little more optimistic than i am. i think illinois will lack a leader and a go-to guy that will hurt them. i would be thrilled with 20-10 next year. frankly, i think it could be worse, but we'll see. i hope people are patient. the interesting thing to me will be to see this team change. i do not see future versions of this team being as reliant on the 3 as recent teams.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) Those CPL guys are never a sure thing, but Collins is pretty damn close. However I predict Collins struggles as a freshman, he has through the roof raw talent and no discipline, and Self HATES guys like that. As he gets into the flow though, he will be quite a player. Sucks that the CPL coaches hate Bruce, although it's definitely not his fault, so I can't really blame him. not all cpl coaches hate bruce. lamont bryant and anthony longstreet have had issues with him, but that's two of probably 65 or 70 coaches. illinois has always had good relations with some coaches in the city, and not so great with others. it's no different than the sica, the catholic league or any other.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) I know a lot of you guys won't care because of the Illinois game but I'm pretty pissed that the pitt-uconn game is not on tv tonight. i care. that is a big-time oversight by someone.
  14. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) Illinois @ Wisconsin tonight at 6:00 on ESPN. If there's one game that Randle has to stay out of foul trouble in it's this one. He needs to stay on the floor to guard Tucker. All Wisconsin really has on offense is Tucker and Taylor, so if Randle is out there most of the game it will help a ton. Wisconsin also doesn't shoot too many threes, so we should be able to focus on our defense inside. Dee has to have a good shooting game on the road for once (i don't count NW, not a good team/hostile environment). I expect this to be a low scoring game for sure. If we can pull out this win, we probably have a good a shot as anyone to win the Big Ten. I think we have to win one of at Wisky, at OSU, and at MSU to really have a chance to win it, and i think this is the best opportunity. A win would just be so huge. Should be a gritty game. Also, think Wilkinson's girlfriend will be constantly shown tonight even though he graduated? a lot of action on the illini so far. the line moved from wisky -2.5 to a pick em.
  15. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) League may be down, but Kansas is red hot. Coach Self is really showing his true colors now. Best recruiter in nation has the best field goal percentage on defense, and has installed a running system, similiar to Roy Boy's. Davon Jefferson and Darrel Arthur are there for the taking also. they are improved. a lot of that improvement is due to the fact they are playing league teams that are not that good. still no wins over the rpi top 25. two over the top 50. meh.
  16. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) Ok and Mizzou has missed the tourney what 3 straight years. two. don't change your argument now. it's clear this league is down.
  17. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) colorado is a real surprise. When has missouri been good the last 5 years?? Texas Tech is just known because of their aging coach. Oklahoma just beat Texas. The league started slow, and now are improving. missouri was in the elite 8 in 2002. oklahoma beating texas is not much evidence of anything.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Why dont you go do that and than he will just kick you in the face lol i am faster than him. plus, chuck norris is my uncle. he would take shawn's leg and shove it up his ass.
  19. someone needs to give shawn michaels a tall glass of shut the f*** up.
  20. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) 3 top 25 teams and a 4th(kansas) knocking on the door. so, you are saying the big 12 is not down?
  21. would have liked to see walk the line up for best film, but oh, well.
