good win for illinois. one more, and let's have some help from vedran and co. tomorrow. -
i still don't believe that grand slam. i was actually watching the game at home alone, but just felt i had to call my dad. he's not a big sports fan or anything and rarely even cares. he is a sox fan though, and when i heard his voice he sounded like i've never heard him before. he said "do you believe this?" with the way he said it, i will never forget those words.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 01:40 AM) Foster was the one I was most unsure about. I just couldn't put him ahead of either MSU guard, they are so damn good (too bad nobody on their team cares besides them and Davis) and IMO Horton has been the best guard in the league. That leaves Foster and Dee, and IMO you could easily switch their positions on my team and I'd have no problem with it, I just put Dee 1st team because of how damn valuable he is to Illinois, whereas I still think Ohio State is DAMN good even without Foster. I know the system isn't too fair, but I had to come up with a "tie breaker". yeah, it's not an easy choice. i can't even say with great certainty who i would move down. i just know how elemental foster has been to ohio state's success in ways that go beyond numbers. regardless, the list is solid. you can quibble with anyone's list at the end of the day. if anything, you look at those teams and it is a pretty good example of how good this league is this year. -

whitesox101, your team looks very good. only quarrel i have is foster being only third team, and butler not being on the team at all. i also think foster could factor in as defensive player of the year. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) http://www.mlive.com/preps/aanews/index.ss...ll=2&thispage=1 Great Leon Freeman news (although not surprising), hopefully he qualifies. The Illini also recently offered E'Twaun Moore (class of 2007 combo guard). He is 6'3, 170 and the #71 player (4 star) in 2007 according to Rivals. Sorry, no linky for this one, but here is his profile on O&B (hasn't updated him to having been offered yet by Illinois though). His 2 clear favorites are Purdue and Illinois by all accounts, and he is a top priority if the Derrick Rose talk is indeed true (which it is IMO). http://illinois.rivals.com/viewprospect.as...=2&pr_key=29620 having never seen freeman play i can't really comment on his ability, but the second-hand information i've read suggests he's a very good player who could contribute immediately for illinois. this would be a very nice addition to next year's class. also of note, illinois has reportedly offered '07 wing evan thomas out of st. joseph's high school. as for rose, i will just wait and see. i have heard people reporting things all over the board. in some cases people with legitimate sources who i trust have said the exact opposite things regarding rose to illinois. we'll just have to wait and see on that. i will say that after seeing some of the video of rose's performance in the city title game there is no doubt in my mind the kid is going to be a great player wherever he goes.

QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2348153 Sumpter is taking the medical redshirt. Unfortunate for Villanova because he really could have helped them in the tournament. reminds me of randle last year. he would have been a nice option for last season's team. too bad for sumpter. i was hoping he would get the opportunity to compete this year. -
thanks for all the responses.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) Maybe not the Big Ten since they have NU, and Illinois, Michigan, and Purdue have some high standards (although it varies based on the program). It definitely seems to be higher than pretty much anyone else though. It's also hard to say when I'm trying to figure it out based on info from one player. I know Emeka Okafor, Josh Boone and Charlie Villanueva all had pretty impressive grades and test scores, that doesn't mean that UConn is an academic power-house. I'm also not so sure that Notre Dame doesn't let things slide. I know there were rumors going around that they wouldn't take Gerald Riggs Jr. and Jarrett Payton back when they were stud recruits, but one of my friends did a report on college athletics, and IIRC the average SAT on ND's football team was about 950. The average level for the school isn't really a good guidline because besides the fact that they probably let top-notch athletes get away with lower than average grades, most of them are also going to apply to LAS or Gen Ed (or whatever equivalent they have), which generally have much lower admission requirements than some of the top-notch programs like business or engineering. I had pretty good grades and test scores, but I wouldn't have had a chance at getting into business or engineering at Illinois, whereas I did get in for communications. i think notre dame has gone back and forth through the years. under faust they were tight, under holtz they were loose, under willingham they were tight and under weis they've loosened. i know osu is that way now. there has been a big initiative there from the president on down to limit the amount of at-risk kids being accepted by sports teams. right now osu has about 50 at-risk kids in their entire athletic program, and the new ad has said he would like to bring that down to 35 or 40. that's pretty much come from the top-down and has been directly reflected in their recruiting. this is why guys like jeff cumberland were available for illinois to recruit. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Nobody should be amazed that a player gets into a school for football or basketball. EVERY SCHOOL IN AMERICA cheats to get players qualified to play sports, end of discussion. i think calling this cheating is a bit strong. every school is going to admit some kids every year who have test scores lower than what the average is. some of those kids are athletes, some aren't. it's the school's prerogative to make the choice. i don't see it as breaking the rules, because admissions policies are pretty flexible as is. -

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Best sporting event that Ive ever been to that was not the World Series. Absolutely Amazing night... I'll always refer to this game as the Deron Williams game. My head scaved the Allstate Arena roof when that game was over (not kidding, we had the top row) Meeting Bill Murray and overall just basking in the glory of a Final Four birth was nothing short of incredible to witness. If this march sees a game half as good as that was, we'll be in for a real treat. and this from a kansas fan. -
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:19 PM) I know in Champaign I rarely had problems getting the games. WGN obviously always comes in and Comcast wasn't an issue. The only games that we didn't get were on CLTV, and occasionally there was a CSN+ game, although those usually came in on one of the local channels. I'd imagine that most of the games will be on WGN or Comcast after last year, so I'm not sure how big an issue it will be this time around. out here it is pretty slim pickings in regards to sox telecasts. i usually get one game each weekend on wgn, and the occasional espn broadcast. that, and the local fox affiliate does carry all indians games, so i do get all sox-indians games.

he makes a good point about bunting. few things in baseball make me more angry than a guy flagging a bunt attempt. good to hear he takes it that seriously.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) It depends on what you want it for. Personally, I wouldn't use it all that much since I watch the Sox games above all else, limiting my chances to use it to watch other teams. If you're out of the Chicago market and can't get the Sox game however, it's worth a shot. I'm pretty sure it's cheaper to get the games on the internet from MLB.com though. I think it's like $40 a year for the audio broadcasts and $80 a year for the video (hard for me to remember since I wasn't paying for it ). That works pretty well, although I think it's always the home broadcast team. this was another option i was considering. in the past i never worried about this because even when games weren't on AM1000 came through clear as a bell out here most nights. that's not the case with 670, though, so i figured i'd better look into another option. the mlb radio option is intriguing, and inexpensive.

florida wide receiver chad jackson ran a 4.36 maryland tight end vernon davis ran a 4.38 at 6-3, 250 pounds (that is just f***ing ridiculous). ohio state defensive end mike kudla tied the combine record by benching 225 pounds 43 times. ohio state linebacker bobby carpenter will not work out at the combine. texas a & m quarterback reggie mcneal ran a 4.37, best 40 time of the quarterbacks. virginia tech defensive back jimmy williams was the tallest db, measuring just short of 6-3 feb. 27 recap feb. 26 recap feb. 25 recap

i don't have a dish, but my cable company offers extra innings if you have digital, which i do have. if you've bought it, what do you think? is it worth the money, and how much does is cost for the season? thanks in advance.

pathetic on that guy's part. it's probably better they wheeled him out so he didn't stumble over his skirt.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) True thing is.. his teammates love him. This isn't an issue with them. It's an issue with Kenny - an issue BTW Kenny created 3 years ago. i will defer to your knowledge here, but various quotes down through the years have led me to believe some teammates weren't always behind him. that's probably true about every player on every roster, though.
-
i would applaud him. everyone knows what kind of guy frank is. that's been clear for a long, long time. he's not a great clubhouse guy, and he's not a great teammate. but i'm not in the clubhouse, nor am i his teammate. i'm a fan. i sit in the seats, and from there i saw him do amazing things i've never seen any other sox player do. i will always be a frank thomas fan, unless he shows up at my house and calls me a douche. until then, the personal stuff is between him and other people i don't know.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 01:45 AM) I can see wanting to sign a QB but Pennington? Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. personally i'd prefer pennington over brooks, but that's obviously contingent on his health, or lack thereof.

great job, guys. truly a step forward. good to see you are being as ambitious as the sox are.
