  3. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) You still need to fix the year in your sig. i don't blame him. it's hard to let go.

  7. i'll be solo. probably throw some brats and burgers on the grill, put back a few ice-cold beers and revel in the start of another championship season.
  8. you can monitor chicago-area weather here
  9. june 17 at cincinnati. this past year was the first year in about 10 that i hadn't been to a sox game. it definitely made me reconsider going to any games this year, but i gotta cheer this crew on at least once.
  10. thanks for the sentiment brooks, er, ozzie.
  11. ^this right here made me laugh out loud.
  12. as someone who gladly pays a pretty healthy amount of child support for his daughter, i think randy johnson is a complete and total asshole. of course i thought that before as well. i think what most sickens me is the fact that he has obviously made no attempt to be a part of this young woman's life. that is sad. every child wants a relationship with their parents, and to go all this time and never see her to me is worse than the whole money issue. i hope she gets all she wants and more.
  13. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) I understand that's a major reason, but you'd still think it'd take some recruiting ability to get guys that good to go to a school with as little prestige as K-State. It's scary, this group looks like it might rival the Fab Five by the time he's done. i think a lot of it just has to do with him having a relationship with mayo and walker for quite some time. those guys are almost like pied pipers in that people want to play with them. i think in part that's the reason so many kids are looking that way.
  14. indians sign sizemore to six-year extension
  15. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 02:50 AM) His middle name is "FOCKING." lmao.
  16. speaking of o.j. mayo, he was suspended by his school for tonight's state semifinal game. no word on what caused the suspension and whether it will carry over to tomorrow if nch makes the final game. there are rumors, but now they are just that. mayo no mo
  17. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) Jim Les, give it up for the former Don Of Notre Dame High School. Two things: I just read on Yahoo that O.J. Mayo and one other prospect are thinking about following Huggins wherever he goes, which, as of late last night, will be Kansas St. Also, what's up with Derrick Rose? I'm just really, really hoping he decides to play with Gordon at Illinois. Has he decided on somewhere? Are talks off with the Illini? Thanks. yeah, mayo and walker are pretty tight with huggins. iirc, they even hang out at his house now, because there are obviously no restrictions any more for him. in addition to those to there's some other 6-11 kid who's name escapes me who is supposed to be following him. i know huggins has followed mayo and walker pretty closely. i did see him at one of their games earlier this year. in terms of rose, there has really been nothing new reported. there's a lot of misinformation floating around out there. in the past few months various rumors have stated he's crossed illinois off his list, he's been a day away from committing to illinois, he's committing to depaul, he's not committing to depaul etc., etc. the only statement that has been made is that he will decide before his next high school season. imo, it will come down between north carolina and illinois. my gut says he goes to carolina, although i hope i'm wrong.
  18. correct. but that's not how it was portrayed in the story.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) That isn't drama, and wouldn't sell magazines.. true enough, but generally i expect more out of sports illustrated. plus, bashing sportswriters is pretty popular. i think people would eat up a piece that highlighted the decaying standards of journalism. of course, considering sportswriters and journalists were putting this together...
  20. media members are increasingly paying attention to these kinds of boards. i have a friend who's a beat writer for a major daily and he said he checks boards regularly. he doesn't run with everything he sees, but there are things he can at least check out. frankly, if i was a beat writer i think i would not be doing my job if i wasn't checking. that is partly what disappointed me in the article. it was nice to see the soxtalk mention, but a more key point is why is this reaching the "mainstream" press. i wish the article would have explored further how a post on a message board gets into the regular news. to me, it is not news that some outlandish ideas are offered up on a fan web site. it is news that it would be picked up and run with by news outlets throughout the country who are supposed to be held to higher standards of accountability.
  21. sounds like it's time for a new banner. seriously, though, this is really great for this site. you can not buy publicity and attention like this. mention of this site in a widely read periodical is only going to direct tons of traffic this way. i hope the servers are armed and ready.
