  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) I think by "best", people really mean who runs the most flattering articles about the Sox. Sox fans never have had much tolerance to any bad news. Who cares how they write as long as it is nice and makes us feel better. just from my standpoint, i don't need a guy to report happy news to make me think he's doing a good job. i want a guy to report the news accurately and fairly, and i want him to develop good enough sources that when the time arrives, a big story can be broke. i don't mind the reporting of bad play or bad incidents, because i'd rather have an accurate view of the happenings on the team than one that's been polished up for public consumption.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 12:57 AM) You think this: and said if she touched him at all it was only to place a hand on his shoulder to try and calm him. "All I kept saying to him was `Dude, relax. Go to a happy place,'" you don't know me so i don't think it would be wise for you to attempt to assume how i think. i believe in civility between people, not a candy-ass new-age approach.
  3. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 12:37 AM) page isn't there sorry bout that. they took it down. here's the list:
  4. QUOTE(GasHeGone @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) How do you guys feel about G-Town being ranked and - more importantly - will they stay there? i'm mixed. any time you beat the unbeaten top-ranked team in the country, you deserve some consideration unless you've just been awful otherwise. outside of duke, gtowns only quality wins are st. johns and providence and those are far from eye-popping. gtown has played well, though. their only double-digit loss was at illinois (by 10 points) and they've played really well in losses to uconn and west virginia. as to whether they will stay ranked, i think they can. their next five games are all winnable (at notre dame, cincinnati at home, at depaul, pittsburgh at home and st. johns at home).
  5. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 04:19 AM) Early line is Steelers -4 and Over/Under 47, from what i found damn. give me some of that action. stillers big.
  6. i saw this link on another board and thought it might make an interesting discussion piece with national signing day coming up for college football. this list was the top 100 prospects out of the 1996 class. fwiw, tim cooch was no. 1. the top 100 h.s. football prospects in 1996
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) And like I said before. If you are on the road at a rival's stadium cheering for the road team then you should expect something like "sit the f*** down" in the very least. If you can't handle that then you shouldn't be going there. That is pretty simlpe. If you are doing it at my home team's stadium I wil tell you that every single time. You can either have fun with that or you can have a problem with it. If you want a problem out of that, then I would be more than happy to supply you with one. Axelrod acted like a normal fan would. Davis' wife did not. well that is where you an i differ. i don't go about the business of swearing at people i don't know just because i don't like what they are doing.
  8. QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 11:37 PM) Not to nitpick, but Padilla joined the San Gabriel Valley Tribune and will cover the Angels for them, as well as the other papers in the LA Daily News group. Sorry, I'm a journalism dork. lol. no prob. i heard padilla had gone to the la times from a friend of mine who covers the indians. is it me or is the san gabriel times a huge step down from the sun-times? maybe he's a cali native, or maybe the s-t told him to take a hike. anyway, i'm interested to see if the trib keeps with their approach of flip-flopping beat reporters. typically they've had sullivan covering the sox every other year. this would be his year.
  9. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) on the illinois pregame loren tate said freeman has not committed. following up from yesterday. freeman has told several people he has committed to illinois. this isn't surprising, considering his final two were illinois and msu and msu snared a commitment from stud durrell summers earlier this week. however, according to various reports freeman does not have an offer yet because illinois wants to look at his grades a little more closely. safe to say, if his grades improve, they will offer. if not, the other options are patrick beverley, deonte vaughn and ramar smith. either that, bank it, or keep it open with the option of giving it to trent meacham.
  10. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 06:14 AM) Hey Pat, either go back in time and fix your daddy's temper problems, or shut the f*** up and get out and recruit.
  11. they actually were on the yankees for a very short period of time together. count was with the yankees in 2003 and 2004. duque missed all of 2003 with an injury. in 2004, they spent maybe a half of a season together. count came to the white sox right after the all-star break, and duque missed parts of the first half with an injury.
  12. any big ten road win is a good one, but i can't say i was at all happy with the way illinois played in the second half today. the second-half effort was one of the worst of the year. give credit to northwestern for getting after it and making this more of a game than it looked like it was going to be.
  13. on the illinois pregame loren tate said freeman has not committed.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) North Dakota State has won. unbelieveable.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) The thing is that a lot of observers in Michigan think he is the best player in the 06 class which includes guys like Ramar Smith, Deshawn Sims, and Tom Herzog who are all highly rated recruits. Getting a guy who might win Mr. Basketball in the state of Michigan is almost always a good thing. no doubt.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) Brian Dolgin doesn't count? dolgin does a great job, but he's a radio host, not a reporter.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) Sorry didn't even think to check the previous page to see if it had been posted. no worries man. i actually just meant to post the link, not the whole thing. this would be a good get, because illinois does not have a player similar to freeman right now. it's difficult to tell how good he is, though, because there are a ton of discrepancies in his ratings on various sites. scout has him as a four-star recruit and the 10th best shooting guard prospect in the nation. rivals had him as a three-star and at 147 overall, but that list was last updated last august.
  18. i have no love for the badgers, but this loss would be bad for the league. c'mon uw. badgers down nine with 4:42 left.
  19. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) reports out there are that illinois has received a commitment from 6-4 swingman leon freeman, the leading candidate for player of the year in michigan. freeman is a four-star recruit known for his scoring ability. he was also offered by michigan state, michigan, ohio state and purdue. freeman does have some academic issues, although there is some debate how serious they are. here is freeman's scout.com profile: leon freeman here is the link from a rivals board that noted his commitment: leon freeman to illinois there is no story up yet, but that thread was linked on illinois's rivals board. the guy who started the thread is one of the writers for that board. edit: freeman joins the 2006 class along with brian carlwell and richard semrau. this likely ends illinois's interest in marshall guard patrick beverley. above is the link to the rivals mention that started this.
  20. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) Best Sox reporter? We don't get the Southtown up in the NW burbs, so I don't know much about Cowley. I'm partial to Scot Gregor of the Daily Herald. I might be a little bias due to the fact that our pay checks come from the same place, but I really think he does an excellent job. To expand this a little, I really think the best overall Chicago baseball writer is Phil Rogers. Yes, he works for the so-called "Cubune", but he's never hesitated to tell it like it is about the ballclub up north, and he always seems to have some very good insight regarding both teams. He'll occasionally throw out his "Sam Smith Style" trade suggestions, but as can be seen in the Trade Winds, they often inspire some lengthy debate. And with the way he's been talking about the Sox lately, you'd think he was in the Sox PR department. Then again, theres nothing really negative to say at the moment. Anyways, I don't think you can go wrong with either Gregor or Rogers. rogers has been very kind to the sox, with good reason. his cub dislike i think is rooted in his dislike of baker.
  21. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) scheyer sucks f***ing ass. i hate you. geez. now your sounding like an illinois fan.
