QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) Santonio's stats even leave alot to be desired with me. OSU threw for over 225 yards a game, yet Santonio couldn't even average 82 yards a game. Martin even put up more yards when the two teams met, with 9 catches for 106 yards against a great D, with Holmes only managing 5 catches for 72 yards. I haven't seen him as much as you have, but I still think Nance will be the best in the class. osu really spread it around this year in the passing game, though. ginn is there obviously, and gonzalez is extremely underrated. people will know about him next year. especially earlier in the season when ginn was struggling, teams were rotating all their coverages toward holmes.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) f***ing a', doc. Carpenter would absolutely thrive as a Sam for the Bears. Could you imagine...Brian, Bobby, and Lance? Ouch. Stay tuned for the Sweethearts, they are a lot of fun. A lot of folks bring up some real good names. Pound for pound, the knowledge we have in the War Room ranks up there with some of the better draft sites on the net. i will be eagerly anticipating it. i love the friggin draft.

cool. i'm a huge carpenter fan. i've watched him play since his freshman year of high school, put back some beers with him from time-to-time and think he's one of the real gems in this year's class. as a bear fan i'd love to see him on the strong side, but i think he'd be a great fit as an olb in a 3-4 somewhere. dallas would be nice, because his dad played for parcells and he's a family friend.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) Admittedly, I haven't put as much time into prospects this season as in the past, but, I have kept a very serious watch on the quarterback, running back, and defensive back positions. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:05 AM) I would think that the Twins would be interested in Russell Branyan at $800,000. They still need a third baseman because Tony Batista sucks. that would be a good addition if the twins were looking to build a team of suck. although judging by a few of their offseason moves, branyan's probably en route now.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) that really sucks, maybe they rushed him back too quickly. yeah. it's too bad. you hate to see that happen to a player. i'm not sure, but hopefully there will be some chance for a medical redshirt for him. -

word circulating on peegs.com is that indiana's d.j. white re-broke his foot and will miss the remainder of this season. no official word yet, tho. -
so far we have had plenty of discussions about the possibility of bmac either going to the pen as a reliever, or being inserted as the fifth starter if the count was dealt. assuming contreras stays, what would you like bmac's role to be this year? long reliever, spot starter, sixth starter? essentially what do you think would be the best way to use him to help the team as well as help his personal development as a player.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 02:07 AM) Illinois has 2 weapons and one of them is always in foul trouble in big games. If Dee is not perfect, the Illini lose. so, through 15 games dee was perfect. whatever you say. anyhow, horrid game by illinois. i really liked the way they started off by going inside to pruitt, but then he got in foul trouble and that was that. no offensive consistency or flow all game, and the defense was not what it's been. not horrible, but considering iowa has been a bad offensive team at times, not good, either. but, as i've said earlier this wasn't a team that was going to be unbeaten anyway. losses are the best teaching tool so it will be interesting to see how weber uses this and how the team responds this week. -

this game (ill-iowa) is freaking ugly. -
i looked around and could not find this anywhere so i was looking for some help. do the bulls get the knicks no. 1 pick year under any circumstance, or only if it is out of the top three. i seem to recall there being some provisions on the pick that would push it to next year's draft, but i didn't know the facts. thanks in advance.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) Unless Frazer or Jones decommit, ND will not get Mustain. Both committed QBs are very, very good though and there's rumours that Clausen (likely the top rated QB in the 2007 class) is a "silent commit"/"strong lean" for ND. Also, there are currently 3 players that are currently planning on EE. Two are Aldridge and Stewart who could have huge impacts as early as next fall. After the Fiesta Bowl, I'm also thankful that they pulled in some top defensive backs, including the #1 corner back in Walls. MacNeil is supposed to be fabulous as well. i have read notre dame will move jones to wide receiver. not sure if that's speculation or truth.

QUOTE(farmteam @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 05:44 AM) Is he the one from Morgan Park? as said above, that's demetrius jones, an nd commit. mphs also has a top wide receiver in chris james (illinois) and offensive tackle in ramone johnson (considering illinois). all makes me very proud to be a morgan park graduate.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 06:08 PM) Maybe I exaggerated when I said everything, but certainly more than enough did. I'd say most of the players outside of Augustine, and Smith (not a lot of playing time) gave about their average contributions. It's hard to say things went terribly wrong for everyone else when they don't typically offer much in terms of offensive production. Personally I don't expect much from anyone other Brown or Augustine, and even the latter doesn't get much credit from me when he goes up against a legit post player. One major key for them in every game is going to be how well they hit from outside since they rely on it so heavily and usually don't seem to get a lot of easy baskets inside. They had a huge advantage in that area and it played a huge role in who won the game. We'll see what happens from here on out, but I really don't expect Dee to go nuts every game, or the Illini to hold teams well under 60 on a regular basis. They certainly deserve some credit for right now after getting their first major win, but let's not pencil them into a 2 seed and an Elite 8 appearance just yet. i agree most of that. i don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to expect them to hold the opposition to less than 60 points most nights. through 15 games they're giving up 55.6 per game and they just held one of the nation's highest-scoring teams to 50. it's not like that's an aberration. through 15 games it can't be counted as such. but the rest of your stuff i agree with. i am an illinois grad and a big fan, no doubt, but i also try to look at the team objectively. i'm not into making grandiose claims about them. they are not as good as last year's group and they are not going to be unbeaten this year. but they are 15-0. they are pretty damn good. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) Good win for the Illini, although it was pretty ugly. Michigan State was brutal offensively. Some of that can be attributed to Illinois' defense, but MSU was still throwing the ball away with consistency, mishandling a lot of passes on the catch, and Ager missed a few open shots that he normally doesn't. Before anyone jumps on me, I did say that Illinois would be tough to beat if they hit their 3's, and that if any of MSU's big 3 had a major off-night they were in trouble, and both did happen. But Illinois still needs some work on offense. You can't expect to get this kind of offensive ineptitude to happen on a regular basis, even if the Illini do play good defense and have such a massive homecourt advantage. Dee had a career game where he was consistently pulling shots out of his ass with a man in his face and they were still going down. That doesn't happen every game. Every other player had a brutal game on the offensive, but they managed to get by. Despite pretty much everything going right for Illinois in this game, they still didn't exactly crush an MSU team that was obviously off their game in a hostile environment. Illinois came up with a good game, but I'm still not sold on them being a high seed in March. you make some good points but there are a few things in there i don't understand. you say illinois still needs work on offense. agreed. you also say outside of dee everyone else had a brutal game on offense. also agreed. if those two factors are true, though, then i think it is innacurate to say pretty much everything went right for them in this game. regardless, they just beat the team just about everyone selected as the preseason league champ by 10 points on a night when only one player showed up offensively. not bad in my book. -

it seems obvious to say illinois needs to find other scoring options. and they do. that said, if they continue to defend that way they will be a force deep into march. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) I haven't gone anywhere. A lot of teams are overrated right now, and I happen to think Illinois is one of them. They're really only consistently getting contributions from Brown and Augustine, which probably won't be enough in conference play. Someone else is going to have to step up, like maybe Smith playing a bigger role or McBride or Randle stepping up. Michigan State has a few very good players, but they aren't all that deep. They've got enough talent to beat a lot of teams, including the Illini. However, if one of the big 3 for MSU has an off-night, they can be beat, and Illinois can be tough if they're hitting their outside shots. It should be an interesting game. actually i was more referring to where i live than anything. needless to say i get my fair share of "buckeye" out here. anyhow, i tend to agree that illinois isn't the sixth-best team in the nation at this point, but i like what i've seen so far.
