  1. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 09:19 PM) Are all you Illini fans ready for a challenge?? I'm pumped. ready.
  2. i will root for frank in any situation. imo, he is one of the top players (if not the top player) in sox history, and i really want to see him get 500 homers and seal his spot in the hall. i obviously will not root for him in key situations against the sox, but when the sox are up 10-0 on the a's i'll be rooting for him to hit a solo homer.
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 12:12 AM) 4 star WR Kenny Britt of New Jersey has verballed to Illinois, per rivals. http://illinois.rivals.com/ Awesome news, wtg Zooker.
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) About time that they finally made it official. Hardy to Sit Out 2005-2006 Basketball Season Hardy was the runner-up Mr. Basketball in 2004, and that was his first year of HS football too. He was easily one of the best players on the field for IU last year in football. This says Hardy's going to just prepare for football, and make a decision about basketball in the future. AKA he's done w/ basketball. I don't blame him though. He didn't look like the James Hardy from high school last year on the basketball team. He's got a real chance to go pro in football. hardy's a stud. he's got a very bright future. i still can't believe they took that catch away from him against osu.
  5. sorry i wasn't more clear. spielman covered davis earlier this year, so that is what he was basing his assessment on. and as felix said, lewis is a senior.
  6. chuck lamar tried to make this happen before he got fired, but he would not settle for any other name than "yankees," "red sox," or "cubs," so nothing got done.
  7. QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 03:00 AM) Cumberland is a very good get. Hopefully his grades are in order and he is playing TE for the Illini next year. honestly, i have not read much that is really encouraging grade-wise. he's had a 2.45 gpa last i heard, which would probably put him in the range of needing an 840 on the SAT to qualify. so, perhaps it's a longshot, but if it comes in this is a really, really good get.
  8. heard chris spielman on local radio out here today. he's doing the senior bowl for espn and is calling in daily reports to the local shows (he normally hosts one). said davis is just a freak, but a freak who can really, really play. said marcedes lewis looks out of his league and just plain bad. said he could see him falling to the third round.
  9. good commitment today for illinois. jeff cumberland a four-star recruit from rivals and scout, chose the illini. cumberland is out of brookhaven high school in columbus, ohio. jeff cumberland rivals story also, illinois is looking good for four-star receiver kenny britt out of virginia. britt eliminated virginia (one of his other leaders) today.
  10. pretty funny take on the recent trend of "floor rushings."
  11. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 12:52 AM) According to doc, the Carpenter family already has a relationship with Parcells and we all know how big Parcells is on relationships, stand-up guys, hustle players, etc. The Cowboys are a definite possibility. No, not these Carpenters. yeah, bobby's dad rob played for parcells in new york. rob told me that parcells had later asked him to coach running backs (i think with the pats) but rob was getting into high school coaching at the time and had four young kids (all boys, bobby being the eldest), so it didn't work out.
  12. good luck to frank. i will be rooting for you to reach 500 homers. see you in cooperstown.
  13. good luck frank. sad to see my favorite sox go elsewhere, but it's not like i couldn't see it coming.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) Doc, I really would like Carpenter on the bears. Of course im a homer when it comes to him, but I really think that he brings the versatility that we need. He was underrated for OSU this year as he not only can rush the passer, but he can drop into coverage as well. no doubt. i am biased because i know him and his family, but he is really one of the most versatile linebackers i've seen. i actually think he might not be around when the bears pick. once he works out he is really going to move up, imo. he ran a 4.59 at 6.3, 265 pounds last year and that is just getting it done.
  15. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) The names will all change after the Senior Bowl results come out. thanks for your meaningful contribution to this thread. it will actually change after the senior bowl, after the combine and after the individual workouts. so i guess we should just quit talking about the draft until then.
  16. today's sun-times article sure makes it sound that way. paraphrasing, angelo thinks the offense will improve and is comfortable with what benson, bradley and currie will bring to the table next year. he's not against the idea of moving peanut to safety (somewhere, greg blache is smiling). he is leaning toward drafting defense with the first pick, and most picks. to back this up, the writer of the story (mike mulligan) was on the score this afternoon and said he expected the bears to select either a defensive back or linebacker (bobby carpenter, please) with their first pick. mully is a pretty astute observer of the bears and i do put stock in what he says. anyhow, who are the candidates for the bears at db and lb where they pick? of course, there's always the possibility of this being one of angelo's much ballyhooed "smokescreens" (lol) but it's fodder for talk anyway.
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 02:23 AM) You must have misread or misunderstood me somewhere. You should either go back and read the post more carefully or ask what I was saying there. I don't know where I ever stated that you think that was ok. I can see where I asked you if I thought if she was trying to annoy him or not. Here, next time quote me correctly. Make sure you take the whole thing. I highly doubt she was taking some new-aged candy-ass aproach. She was just trying to annoy him and get under his skin. I never once said you did believe in it. I did however ask you a question about it. gotcha. i read at work yesterday and missed the line under the bold text. bold text tends to do that.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) Goings was on that list too. Pretty crazy list. Tons of high draft picks and solid NFL players on there. Mike Brown was on it too. And than there was Katzenmoyer, what happened to that guy. He was a machine in college (didn't he eventually have some sort of career ending injury?) katzenmoyer had a neck injury with the pats that ended his career. he coaches high school football in the burbs out this way.
  19. no doubt. heck, there's even two first round nfl picks (edge and damione lewis) in the final 10.
  20. no huge surprise here. micah downs leaving kansas. he gone
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) my fav NL team. The big red machine will be back. agreed. they won't be back for awhile, though. lindner, o'brien and co. really drove that franchise into the ground.
  22. he's also doing big interviews with sports illustrated and maxim.
  23. rumor out this way was circulating that the indians offered the reds jake westbrook for austin kearns. supposedly o'brien turned that down, but i wonder if it will be revisited now.
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 04:15 PM) Same with me. But just watch during the season and when some reporter or analyst picks against the Sox there is a 50 post thread talking about what a moron he is and how the Sox get no respect. Once I left the Chicago market and wasn't surrounded by "homers", my attitude changed. Accuracy wins out over attitude. very true.
