QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) Danks looked safe. I want to see a replay Edit: looked like at least a tie I think Leury Garcia should've been running for Phegs. -

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 05:31 PM) Rewinded it Sounds like El Dewinde?....Or something like that hahahaha El Duende , which I'm not sure he said is The ELF . -
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) Leury is much, much faster than Avi. Elite of the elite speed I didn't want to go overboard since I haven't seen him run and Avi is pretty damn fast. Ahem .

Thought for sure Little Leury would be starting for Alexei when Alexei looked like he twisted up his back during an AB yesterday. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) For now he's a reasonable utility guy but he might well develop into a really solid defensive SS if he's given enough time there. I believe Hawk was saying he is also coming in with quite a long swing so he has a ways to go with the bats, but definitely should have some use to this franchise. Yea he needs to tailor his swing to take advantage of his speed but I've heard he's been reluctant to listen to coaches about that, Bit of a stubborn streak. He is a switch hitter.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 11:21 AM) Garcia is an infielder? Oops, I thought he played OF. He can play both. He's got good speed maybe faster than AviGar and a great arm and has played some CF.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 10:51 AM) this post has been caulfielded. (caulfeld?)) Ha I thought of the Iron Giant because we were on a tangent starting with "The Truth", to "The Giant", to the Truth in Portuguese and jokingly questioned if the Portuguese word for "the truth" ( a verdade) was actually the Portugeuse word for green ( verde ) to the "Jolly Green Giant" to the "Iron Giant" and because of the movie. I decided to google iron production in Brazil for fun to see if it supported calling him the Iron Giant and low and behold it actually did. It was not common knowledge on my part at all .
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 10:05 AM) If he pitches on Halfway to St. Patrick's Day, he could be Andre "The Jolly Green Giant" Rienzo. Or seeing as Brazil boosts the largest iron ore mining company in the world he can be Andre " The Iron Giant " Rienzo. We had a Bronze Titan and have a Tank . I think i like it better than just "The Giant" seeing as I like The Iron Giant movie better than the wrestler.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) Just use Portuguese for Rienzo. Andre "A Verdade" Rienzo. Actually kind of flows nicely. This is Murrica pal . Ain't no foreign language that flows cept English. Is that word truth or green ? You wanna call him the Green Giant ? What ?
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 08:02 AM) The 2013 Sox still suck. That is the truth. So is it Aviasail "The Truth" Garcia and Andre "The Truth " Rienzo now? Seems confusing having 2 players with the same nickname. I'd go with Andre "The Giant" Rienzo.

About last night. Whoda thunk that the Sox, miserable on the road and against the AL Central would go on the road and have their longest winning streak of the year against the AL Central ? Not only that but all our hard luck starters each got a win in the past week. That couldn't have happened all season to many teams since no decisions are commonplace for starters even during win streaks. Just goes to show ya that we got the horses for this race. Just need a few more jockey's to ride those studs to some victories a lot more often.

Who Makes It Back to the post-season first, Sox/Cubs?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 07:00 AM) I think the Sox will win another WS before the Cubs do. I made a bet with a friend on the exact same thing when we were in maybe 7th grade and 12 years old . Took me til I was 47 to win that bet. Cubs will find a way to f*** it up .They always do. The Sox aren't much better but we're +1 in the last near 100 years. Sustained sucess isn't in the cards for either team when teams are willing to go crazy with payroll. I'd never pick the Cubs over the Sox when it comes to winning anything. And I'm happy to see the results of the poll indicate this by a wide margin. -
Ugh I can't believe this is brought up again outside of the trade thread. 1st off everybody was saying what a seller's market it was. More teams in the hunt because of the extra wild cards and all that. If it was a sellers market why were there so few trades ? Where did all the buyers go ? Boston bought, Tigers bought ,Rangers bought. Baltimore bought somewhat. The rest of the teams that had a chance to improve either nibbled or didn't want to trade top prospects or were perfectly content holding pat . If it wasn't for Biogenesis there would've been even less deals. Where are the multitude of trades that you can hold up and say look at what they got this year. There's 1, only 1, and thats the Garza trade to a team I identified was desperate to improve based on their window of opportunity to win a World Series getting smaller and Biogenesis from the very start of the trade deadline . Texas very well may have traded with the Sox if Peavy wasn't injured. We may never know. Sux to be a Sox fan sometimes I know. And we do have a right to be disappointed because we always want more for our team. I can't begrudge anyone that. Teams just didn't buy into it being a sellers market. They bought into less spending and holding prospects. We hate to see that happen in a year where so much else has gone wrong. Take Garcia and the money saved and be happy. Concentrate your efforts into looking ahead not behind. The Sox got the best prospect of any team who got prospects this year. The one closest to being an everyday ballplayer right now. Say all you want about the Northside scum but that's the only argument you can make that even resembles an argument. That's just penis envy or the grass is always greener on the other side of the city whining. There is no other argument that can support that theory at all except your desires for wanting more for your team.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 08:14 PM) We have to infuse young talent somewhere and 3B is one of the best options IMO. There's so many things wrong with the Sox I'm just trying to help the starting pitchers as much as possible and that's always up the middle IMHO and better offense . Some area's will suffer since everything can't be fixed all at once. So your way is probably just as valid I'd just keep Conor for his good approach and D hoping the stick comes around a little bit and walks come and D stays the same. Somebody has to want to walk once in a while . -

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 07:57 PM) I doubt we get the value in return for those guys that is worth the trade. As for the CF, sure, I would welcome a trade. I doubt there is a defensive minded catcher who hits well that is available. Do you have one in mind? Phegley I am not ready to give up on. Gillaspie his ceiling is so low that 3B should be a position where we try to develop a young and talented everyday player. Viciedo I am split on but am doubting. Johnson should be in the top 75 prospects next year. AFter his showing this year Rienzo would be sought after. Tank and DeAza both have pop and the steroid free era ( if there ever is one) will always want HR's and HR potential so some value is there. I'm not looking to finish the rebuild in one year. With our starting pitching another big bat like Abreu's and upgrades on D up the middle and limiting the bad baserunning would go a long way. I'll admit I'm higher on Conor than most ,like say a possible .270 BA with 10-15 HR's ,his walks and D he's serviceable at 3rd. Upgrade hitting and D a bit at C and see how it goes. -

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 07:40 PM) First and foremost I want Abreu. You have to add to the young core. Then we would need a defensive CF and a capable back up. Perhaps trade for a young 3B. Say Santiago to TOR for Lawrie and a decent prospect. I also love John Jaso out in Oakland but have no idea what his contract is like CF Crisp 2B Beckham 1B Abreu DH Dunn RF Garcia LF De Aza 3B Lawrie C Phegley/Jaso SS Alexei That way 6 of the 9 starters can still be a part of the future (Beck, Abreu, Garcia, De Aza, Lawrie and Phegley) while the placeholders (Crisp, Dunn, Alexei) will open the door for farm players that hopefully start and stay producing. Viciedo getting split time in LF, 1B and at DH with De Aza playing CF every once in a while. Obviously, the bullpen would need some work but I am not too worried about that. SP should be good. We pretty much agree but I'd rather trade DeAza , Tank, Rienzo or Eric Johnson for that CF and a defensive minded C who's can hit better than Phegley or Flowers, just who I haven't given it much thought yet. But would hate giving up on Phegs or Conor just yet or Viciedo for that matter. But somewhere somehow the Sox need bad D and bad baserunning gone and either DeAza or Viciedo ,Flowers or Phegs will be the ones to go. Strength up the middle prioritized. -

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 07:10 PM) What about C? We have to do better than what we have currently. Ideally the whole retool/rebuilt won't be done in one year ,unless the Sox find a taker for Dunn but I kind of like him for next year. Other issues can be addressed after he's gone. -

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) Not really a fit. I would like bringing in Abreu and Crisp, teaching Viciedo how to play 1B and giving Semien a chance to win 3B in ST. LF - De Aza, Viciedo CF - Crisp, De Aza DH - Dunn, Viciedo 1B- Abreu, Viciedo, Dunn 5 players for 4 positions. If someone gets injured or we have a tough LHP on the mound we have options. I know I'll get ripped for having Viciedo on the bench but I am doubting his likelihood of becoming a middle of the order hitter. Don't see Granderson being a fit at all either. But Tank definitly needs 1 more year or he wont get it on the Sox as a part time player. He'll be gone in the offseason if we sign Abreu ,maybe for that defense first CF I am also craving. -
