Would've been nice to get a run on Darvish , we won't get too many chances like that. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2013 -> 05:44 PM) AJ's foot might not have blocked him all the way, that's the one thing I'm less sure about. Alexei might very well have clipped a portion of it with that lead foot. It's tough to tell , if Robin threw his flag you'd go with inconclusive. The only way Alexei scores is aiming that lead foot to the middle of the plate hoping to knock Aj's foot out of the way instead of going around it. -

Alexei beat the throw easy but AJ's foot knocked Alexei's foot from touching the plate. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 08:35 PM) Yeah, you're completely lost. It's fine. Rules mean nothing to you. OK then. OK, so if we're not MLB umpires we shouldn't talk about it. But hey, Johnny Sox fan knows 100x more about rules than an actual umpire. Got it. This isn't a ground rule, second of all, it is a rule book rule. If he throws his arms up and walks away, and the umpire rules it a lodged ball, yes, batter-runner goes to 2nd. It doesn't matter if every guy goes all the way around the bases (and they should, always make umpires put you back), they'll get placed back. It's on Tank to make a call. If he can't find it, or he thinks it's lodged, he needs to throw his arms up, and walk away. It's not a situation, down the line, where the umpire will just rule it dead without being right on top of it, or without waiting to see how the player reacts - does he go play it (Tank did), or does he throw his arms up and walk away (he did not). Is it always an easy call for the fielder at that point? No, but he needed to do one or the other. He basically tried to do both. But the bottom line is that he went for the ball and got it. There's no umpire ruling when that happens, it's just a normal live ball. We can talk about it without you trying to flaunt your authority because your not an authority in a major league game or in that park. You know more about the rules I'll give you that. It's a unique situation and you can be civil instead of sarcastic. We're arguing for the same reason Robin was arguing. There's no way a ball thats in the park should be an inside the park HR ever unless the ball is being chased down because it bounces away or outfielders collide. And in those instances the ball is clearly visible. Common sense would tell you thats a ground rule double . To the fielder it's like the ball bouncing into the stands . He can't make a play on it when it goes into the stands just as he couldn't make a play on a ball he can't see because of his view was obstructed by park factors other than being blinded by lights. When its out of play the ump immediately calls it as such. Just because the ball was on top of a hose and moving freely until it rolled to a stop under there does not mean it was in play . It should've been ruled a fair ball and out of play -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 08:11 PM) If Tank can't see the ball, hands go up, walks away, done with the play. When he goes digging, live ball, it's as simple as that. Again, everyone wants to bash umps. Everyone's an ump, everyone knows the rules. OMG a call hurt the Sox, must be the umps. I'm saying you need to learn the rules, because, well, you need to learn the rules. 1st of all you're not a Major league umpire. Second you don't know the ground rules that apply to every park in ML baseball . You're saying Tank throws his hand up and walks away. Let's the runner go all the way around the bases and then what? The ump says the ball was in play the entire time ? HR ? Or you think if Tank had walked away the ump would 've ruled it a ground rule double? If then he doesn't Tank's standing there looking stupid because he walked away from a live ball ? It's a no win situation for the fielder. Of course he's going to look for the ball because he want's to prevent a run from scoring not let the guy round the bases without doing a damn thing. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) Try to learn something here, instead of playing a game of "kill the ump" when you don't know the rules. The umpire doesn't make a ruling or kill the play until he gets right up to the ball and makes a call if it's playable/lodged or not. Umpires do not react at the time the player throws up his arms. If this was at the outfield fence, the ball is still live, umpire runs all the way out. Baserunners can keep moving, and then be put back if it was considered dead. Tank's course of action, if he thought it was lodged, would be to throw hands up, walk away, let umpire come out and make the call. You can throw your arms up all you want - if you go digging in there after that, it remains a live ball and will never be ruled dead, even if it's completely stuck and you can't retrieve it. He panicked because there wasn't a call, saw the baserunner moving, so went down and tried to get it. He didn't know the rule. You don't pin that on the umpire. He didnt think the ball was lodged. It was unseeable to him like it disappeared. He looked and didnt see the ball because where it went under the padding and where it ended up were two different things. Now maybe the ump could see the ball moving under there from his angle and Tank couldnt see it from his. Tank can't make a play on the ball he can't see. For an umpire you should be more observant. Instead of flaunting your authority and saying people should learn the rules. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 06:09 PM) It was the right call. He needs to throw his hands up, and walk away. Once he digs back in it, it's live. Period. That's the silliest thing to come to such an absolute "period" conclusion on. Double digging means its a live ball ? Show me that in the rules. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 06:08 PM) Bad call, but Tank should know better Tank took a look under there didnt see it. He thought the ball disappeared. Can't fault him , he didnt think once the ball disappeared it would travel anther ten ft under the pad. He literally had to get his head on the ground to locate that ball. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 11:44 AM) In honor of Alex Rios return I will pay half attention to the game and be fairly disinterested when watching. I saw that in a tweet . Did you borrow it or was it your tweet ?

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) LOL. Great point. Not if Sale goes 7 or 8 which is almost a lock. Anyone think AJP is on the bench tonight? Most managers know to have as few LHB in there against Sale as possible. It's very possible Soto plays tonight.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) For now he's a reasonable utility guy but he might well develop into a really solid defensive SS if he's given enough time there. I believe Hawk was saying he is also coming in with quite a long swing so he has a ways to go with the bats, but definitely should have some use to this franchise. Yea he needs to tailor his swing to take advantage of his speed but I've heard he's been reluctant to listen to coaches about that, Bit of a stubborn streak. He is a switch hitter.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 11:21 AM) Garcia is an infielder? Oops, I thought he played OF. He can play both. He's got good speed maybe faster than AviGar and a great arm and has played some CF.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 10:51 AM) this post has been caulfielded. (caulfeld?)) Ha I thought of the Iron Giant because we were on a tangent starting with "The Truth", to "The Giant", to the Truth in Portuguese and jokingly questioned if the Portuguese word for "the truth" ( a verdade) was actually the Portugeuse word for green ( verde ) to the "Jolly Green Giant" to the "Iron Giant" and because of the movie. I decided to google iron production in Brazil for fun to see if it supported calling him the Iron Giant and low and behold it actually did. It was not common knowledge on my part at all .
