  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 05:06 PM) I want to see these guys pick it up. Even if, sadly, it saves the job of the manager. You know Ventura isn't getting fired. Best thing you can hope is he quits. Don't see that happening either.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 05:28 PM) Phegley has a pretty low ceiling as well, IMO (and the initial question included JorDanks in it, who profiles as nothing better than a 4th OF). Now, if they go and get someone like Abreu, that solves a lot of issues if he ends up being a good hitter. The thing is, I don't see why everyone just doesn't root for games where the young players perform well, and then organizational fillers like Axelrod or Troncoso blow the game. That what I root for but in reality that can't happen every game. If say Viciedo and Garcia get hot together and Dunn ,Alexei, Beckham, and DeAza just keep doing what they have been doin the offense will win some games like it has the last 2 weeks when we get the pitching we're used to. We want Dunn to keep hitting because it makes him more movable or more valuable to use next year. It's not like we're overflowing with LH hitters. Same for Alexei , now he's showing more power, we want that to continue. Same for Beckham and DeAza ,keep it up ,finish strong. Gillaspie same thing ,I want to see him start getting more hits. He has such a good approach it's hard to root againt him. That doesn't leave too many guys where I don't care if they finish bad left in the lineup.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) Because of the emergence of Johnson and Rienzo There are huge differences between Danks, Santiago, and Quitana compared to Rienzo and Johnson. There is no emergence with Johnson and Rienzo. There's 3 ML starts between them and Rienzo has all 3. That staff we have now is great and it will be the reason if they compete. When you have that staff you make it happy by keeping it's closer around. Better defense would help too. We all know we need hitting. If the staff can perform next year like they have this year maybe 2 more hitters will improve the team a lot. Hard to say what would help the team the most. You'd like to wait on Viciedo and DeAza is a productive LH bat but they both have issues with defense and DeAza with baserunning. Talented both but flawed in ways that don't help the pitchers on defense. I'd love a speed burner CF who isnt a liability at bat. Who's available is another thing. If the Sox feel they can compete maybe they go after Abreu and McCann .If they can get both and thats a long shot , maybe they trade one or both of Viciedo /DeAza for the kind of CF I want and use Rienzo and Johnson also as the trade bait.
  4. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) What day did Thome rejoin the organization?...Around the same time Dunn started to take off? Wonder if they have been talking about hitting/approach. Both very similar hitters. Sox hired Thome July 2nd, most say Dunn's hitting better started around 1st week or 2nd week of June.
  5. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) 2 run HR off Jones... 1 run game What new ?
  6. Sox get a gift run and Dunn a gift double when Willingham loses sky high fly and it drops.
  7. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 05:42 PM) Dunn has a higher batting average than Konerko. Never thought I'd see the day. .240 from Dunn is unreal considering his April and May.
  8. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 05:44 PM) If Dunn could hit like this for the majority of next season.... We our either gonna be pretty darn good or gonna get something pretty darn good in return for him, maybe even over the off season as well if he stays hot till the end of this season. At this point the Sox really can't afford to let him go. Without him the lineup is really bad . no power at all. The best thing that can happen is keep Dunn sign Abreu and have a solid LH-RH punch in the middle of the lineup. My only worry if Dunn wont hit as good being just a DH unless ABreu gets equal time as a DH but I think he's more signable if you tell him he'll be playing 1st.
  9. Back to back 2 out doubles Dunn and Garcia get Sox a run.
  10. 4 hits for Sox thru 3 innings. Hit into 2 DP's.
  11. Albers is the Twins version of Axlerod only LH. 27 years old , pitched in independent league and not great stuff. However he has pitched very well in his 2 previous starts. Has ERA of 0.00 coming in with a complete game. Sox run was 1st earned up he's given up.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 06:40 PM) Quintana sure has battled tonight. But good pitchers step up and he's been proving that. Will still go 6 possibly 7 innings. Last 3 innings Q very efficient. Mixing in the changeup now.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 07:59 PM) Oh darn!! It's really perfect. Good starting pitching and bad releivers blow it.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) If it is Swisher that Hawk is referring to, I'm sure it's due to how much Swisher pouted towards the end of 2008. I'm not sure pouting would make you a bad guy. Sounds like he meant just a bad person.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 06:55 PM) Is Swisher the guy that Hawk is talking about being someone that wasn't a great guy? Maybe Albert Belle ?
  16. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 05:28 PM) I've got Peavy/Buerhle on is that a bad thing? No that's a cool matchup . I'm switching back and forth betwen Sox and Bears.
  17. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) Cutler's a turnover machine this preseason. Yea Conte intercepts and 1st pass after Cutler throws late and down the middle a big no no and it's intercepted.
  18. Nice 1st inning and Forte with 58 yd. run and Cutler TD pass.
  19. QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 10:45 AM) Fielding mistakes are still there by the bunches, but the offense has been far more fun to watch. Still a lot of work to be done, but this team has been much more palatable lately. I watch every single game beginning to end unless the Sox are losing 13-0 by the 5th inning. They had the 1st winning homestand in 3 months, that helps enjoyment level. Love the starting pitching.
