  1. Got to Mo for a run with 2 outs. Beckham double Dunn PH single on 0-2 pitch into LF.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 07:47 PM) Figures a coach gets tossed on a pitch that was a strike. Side view showed it was below Flowers knees.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 06:50 PM) If it's Dunn, then Viciedo can DH and ADA go to LF with Garcia playing CF That's workable and Garcia in the Cell is fine I guess ,not in my book though. My line of thinking is this. When you have good starting pitching the next thing to do is get defense. To me that means a younger slick fielding SS and a fleetfooted CF and good defensive catcher. Up the middle D 1st. Garcia should be in RF . Get the D 1st if possible build around pitching and D. Don't know if Hahn thinks the same as me and, even if he did ,circumstances may prevent doing it that any way .
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) I think Dunn is the one who's gonna get traded. With Garcia waiting in the wings ? I'm thinking Rios.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) And they gave up eight earned runs in their thirteen innings. You would think they threw a shutout For accuracy Q gave up 5 ,Jones 2 . 7 runs in 5.2 innings .The other 6 ( Omogrosso, Septimo, Marinez, Santiago, Reed, Axlerod ) gave up 1 in 7.1 innings. 5 of 8 currently with team .
  6. 3-0 Yanks. Rios jogging after a short high popup that PK was running out on. Either Rios didnt pick the ball up soon enough or was afraid of colliding with PK or said F*** it .
  7. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 05:38 PM) what is TPSM? A little thing made up by hiatus during the trading period and still in use for the waiver period meaning ,if I remember right ,Trade Players, Suck More ,so the Sox have a chance at a high draft pick.
  8. Hate seeing no game thread .It's already 2-0 Yanks on Soriano HR after a Gardner bunt single. Sox coming to bat . TPSM ?
  9. Basically took the wrong medication when he was very young and ignorant.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:04 AM) Well, I dunno...all I care about is who is able to make the most plays. Many times that may be the taller player, but maybe the more athletic guy is better at digging balls out or moves laterally better. I honestly don't know, but I don't think the player's range (wingspan) should be the sole consideration. Oh I know what you mean , I know enough about baseball to think the short guy MAY be more nimble , have more range etc, . I think the argument is that all things being equal, the taller one would be better.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 07:27 AM) An illustrative, detailed, well thought out post. But the one that got your attention instead of the detailed well thought one just before it . Face it the shorter and snottier the post the more attention it gets. #soundbytes
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 07:32 AM) For what, Andy Wilkins? If he is willing to take a huge paycut, there is nothing in the system that really stops Konerko from coming back. Sure big paycut , be a bench guy and occasional DH but I think we can agreed the Sox will explore more options than Wilkins.
  13. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 06:37 AM) Logically, the argument shouldn't be about height, but rather standing reach. That doesn't really help Viciedo's case as he appears to have alligator arms. Correct and logically the taller you are the longer your reach is. And I don't see how anyone can state that having a longer reach doesn't make a noticeable difference. . How often do we see a 1st baseman jump losing cotact with the bag and the runner safe ? . How often do we see a 1st baseman stretch towards the incoming throw barely catching it before the runner touches the base ? How bout throws off to the side ? How about catching the low throw before it hits the dirt because of that reach ? How many extra bases will runners advance because the shorter guy cant reach the ball and it becomes a wild throw ? This should be common sense to people .If having a taller guy gets you 10 extra outs a year I'll take the taller guy. Not getting outs when you could leads to big innings and adds runs to the other team . Big innings lead to loses . Any loss can be the difference in making the playoffs and having a chance to win it all. Any advantage is a good advantage.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 07:59 AM) If I was making any sweeping generalizations, I think you are right to ask for some more evidence from me. But I'm not -- I'm simply talking about how Viciedo has taken a step backward offensively this year. That's an easy argument to make since all of his production-related numbers are worse, but since he is young and NOT a finished product, I'm trying to demonstrate a willingness to look beyond his numbers to see how his approach has differed. You and I both know that he swings at too many bad pitches, and if you look at Pitch F/X data, you see that he is swinging at more bad pitches than last year. I'm not aware of any research that tries to determine if successful players get better by learning to swing at more bad pitches, but that's probably because no one has felt that such research needs to be done. As for Garcia, I'm quoting that number in comparison to all of the Major Leaguers currently. You can look at the leaderboards and see that his pitch selection numbers rank in the top 10 worst of all Major Leaguers, and that really only Carlos Gomez is having a decent year among all of those in the same neighborhood -- leading me to believe that his approach may murder AAA, but there's little to no precedent for it doing the same in MLB. Garcia belongs in the Majors, he's been there before and has nothing left to prove in AAA, so I'm evaluating him like a Major Leaguer. You don't hear me spending much time talking about Courtney Hawkins' rates, for example, because he's 19 and has so much more to figure out before I can evaluate him like a Major Leaguer. Does that make sense? I know I'm clear as mud sometimes. I don't see how you got that I wanted a study on how to be sucessful by swinging at more bad pitches, that would be pretty silly. I said take some players who who've been around a while whose contact rates may' ve started off bad and see how they've progressed and how contact rates correlate to their better or worst seasons. I know as well as anyone that swinging at bad pitches is not a good thing. Certainly we both want to see improvement. Garcia is great at hitting strikes so force pitchers to throw strikes otherwise take your base on balls. Hawk always talks about hitters getting themselves out and how Tommy John was great at that. No one likes seeing Phegley flail at pitches in the dirt so often. You said you don't evaluate Hawkins because he is just 19. Garcia just turned 22 in June and already was sucessful in high pressure situations like the ALCS. I guess I'm just more optimistic about how Garcia hits strikes than I am pessimistic about how often he swings at junk. But once he learns to lay off the junk, he'll be a beast.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:20 AM) In 102 games, the Sox have used 70 different batting orders, and no one order more than 6 times. And that's pretty much all based on injuries , it means nothing . It seems like a lot in a vacuum but if you put it against other teams 70 in 102 games is nothing.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 05:49 AM) Olney tweeted this morning that Dunn would be the perfect fit for Texas. No rumor, just his thought. It'd be great if Dunn passed through waivers and we could get something for him while also shedding his contract. Same thing a lot of us here said when Berkman was hurt and threatening to retire and we knew Cruz was likely to be suspended. Peavy Rios and Dunn were all perfect for TX.
  17. Nelson Cruz and his 27 HR's will be accepting his suspension thereby saying bye bye to his team mates for the season and showing he's more interested in free agency. Rangers inactivity to get a hitter at the deadline makes no sense. Kiss playoffs bye bye and window of opportunity to be a champion.
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 08:02 PM) Soooo you were going for that reaction, aka trolling for it. If that's what you want to call it. That's subjective. I don't think what I said was offensive or meant to provoke an emotional response. I've seen a lot worse around here. Nor was I emotional in my statement of fact. That's all it was.
  19. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 07:56 PM) http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...05&sid=t494 Garica HR for Charlotte. That was yesterday. Today he went 0-4.
  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) I think everyone saw you drawing conclusions from your statement. Nah can't see what's not there . I just made a statement of fact. I know Boston and Detroit are in positions to use who they got and we are not. Sometimes I just like to provoke conversation just by making a statement and seeing how others react to it. Everything I said was a fact. I never said Garcia should be with the Sox .
  21. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) With all due respect... What does it matter if we have no trade inclusion contributing at the MLB level at current time? Just a statement of fact. You didnt see me drawing any conclusions did you ?
