ARod suspended for entire 2014 season
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Balta1701's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 07:45 PM) From what I had heard, I thought Colon, Melky, & Grandal weren't getting suspended now because they already served 50 games. I could be wrong. If A-Rod gets suspended for this season & 2014, I would love to be at Yankee Stadium on Opening Day 2015, when he first comes to bat still owed $61 million. I'm sure the fans will treat him nicely. Arod will never play again. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 05:29 PM) He hasn't run the same batting lineup out all year. None of them have worked. I will repost this since you ignored it the first time Well duh injuries have accounted for most of that . He constructs basically the same lineup everyday . -

The White Sox have requested waivers of Dewayne Wise for the purpose of granting his unconditional release, according to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune (via Twitter). Wise appeared in 30 games for the White Sox this season, slashing .234/.258/.328 in April and May. The outfielder has been on the disabled list since June 2nd. Wise, a veteran of eleven big league seasons, owns a career slash line of .228/.264/.381 for the Blue Jays, Braves, Reds, Marlins, Blue Jays, Yankees, and White Sox. The 35-year-old re-signed with Chicago on a minor league deal back in November which marked his seventh minor league deal in three seasons. per MLBtraderumors.com -
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 10:54 PM) Viciedo - 5'11" Keith Hernandez - 6'0" Lou Gehrig - 6'0" George Sisler - 5'11" Rod Carew - 6'0" Steve Garvey - 5'10" Pete Rose - 5'11" Don Mattingly - 6'0" George Brett - 6'0" Harmon Killebrew - 6'0" Stan Musial - 6'0" Carl Yastrzemski - 5'11" Half this list is composed of players from different era's when ballplayers we're shorter and guys who played other positions for the the earlier parts of there careers . There are no players listed that short playing now . I'll save you the trouble. Prince Fielder is 5'11 , Mike Napoli is 6' 0" ,Swisher 6"0, Brandon Moss 6'0". That's all I could find in a limited search . So Viciedo would be tied with Fielder as the shortest. It's just not ideal but it is possible. Moss has played all outfield positions for the A's and 3rd and 1st so he's a versatile guy.

QUOTE (Paulstar @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 10:29 PM) Here are the scenarios I see playing out with Viciedo (I should preface this by saying I don't see Viciedo every being a heart of the order, good offensive player) 1.) If the plan is to commit to an all out rebuild and dump veterans, play young guys, Viciedo at 1B is what it is. Not ideal, but might as well see. 2.) If the plan is to re-tool, spend a little money, and act like the Sox are going to compete, Viciedo as starting 1B is a terrible idea and odds are the Sox would remain under .500 unless Viciedo learned the art of hitting and/or big years from Dunn, Beckham, Garcia, Phegley, and others occur. 3.) If the plan is to re-tool, spend a decent amount of money, and try and compete, and have Viciedo as a situational and rotational player between 1B, DH, and LF (odds are in this situation those spots are filled by a lefty 1B via trade or FA, Dunn at DH, and De Aza in LF), thats not a bad situation. 4.) The plan is to re-tool or rebuild, Viciedo isn't in Hahn/Ventura's (I'm 90% confident Ventura will be back next season, only way he isn't is if HE steps down, White Sox would not fire him, at least not yet) picture and he is traded for another struggling/failed young player. Unfortunately I see option number 2 going. I also think Rios will undoubtedly be traded, and that extra money will be horribly misused by signing Granderson. I wouldn't mind Granderson if he would get a short, cheap contract, but odds are the White Sox would pay him handsomely, even though he is declining and on the wrong side of 30. He could be a good signing, but his bust factor is so high right now, and is exactly the type of FA the Sox should stay away from. Hope I am wrong, but right now I have no reason for hope in this organization actually making good decisions regarding the future. What have you seen out of Hahn that makes you think he'd sign Granderson . I'd say it's a long shot at best.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 10:02 PM) Gee, sorry I can't make a comparison. They brought Brett to the dugout and they got to .500 and now are 2 over. We got to .500 and have lost about 90 percent of our games since. Shoulda brought Frank in in a similar Hall of Fame move to re-energize the team IMO. Just post the way you want. He's a clown.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:38 PM) That there are many to choose from kinda says it all. Though I too, would have to go with Beckham's Antics (great title!). That was hilarious. But we won that game . It probably should be a game we lost to be truly representative.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:14 PM) I don't think we believe has to have power so much as he has to be a productive hitter...which will require him to hit with power. Also, power normally requires size. Size tends to keep you from playing spots like SS/2B/CF. So you want the guys who aren't good enough athletes to play those positions to at least have the skill of hitting for power. I'm a Tank supporter but evn I think he's a trade bait candidate. I hope he really hits well the rest of the way to make himself more valuable. He doen't have a position. Not good enough in left and too short for 1st. I still want Adams from the Cards or Loney as a free agent and try to trade for someone like Ben Revere , Cain, Gomez for CF.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 05:52 PM) He has big time opposite field power right now And we all know Rios doesn't.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 05:26 PM) From what was being reported, Alexei and Rios had very little value at the deadline. Neither did anyone else , teams over valuing prospects now to offset the high salaries. Who'da thunk no one wanted PV with a decent contract for an extra year .

QUOTE (aboz56 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:02 PM) Relatively short thread and for good reason. Overall, his tenure in Chicago was a disappointment. Not saying he didn't compete, but never really performed up to expectations that many had when he was acquired. Jake was cool. Disappointed in his full tenure here but seemed well liked by everyone and he does love his music.

Santiago deserved a better fate but we can say that for Sale and Q too. If this team was even poor instead of very poor with the bats we'd be hovering around .500 . So with that in mind, we shore up the D and Garcia hits, add some improvement from a few guys , add some bats somewhere , throw in the even number year 2014 as a good luck charm and we're competing Edit. Forgot bullpen arms , no problem we're good to go. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 05:55 PM) The Tigers were somewhat desperate and probably overpaid to get a guy who can fill their shortstop hole right now, they were even willing to sacrifice offense because they could get that elsewhere in their team. I know why they wanted him . Peralta upcoming suspension and willing to plug SS with D since they have plenty of hitting. I wanted him because I wanted an elite glove who could turn out to be a better hitter than people think. I know Boston sold high but we'll see how he hits going forward. Maybe Sox don't see SS as that big of a position of need with some middle infield prospects on the farm . -
