QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:50 AM) The White Sox and just about every other team throw misinformation out there. Things are leaked that they want leaked. Very little legitimate trade talk has ever been out there about the White Sox the last several years. Hahn is a new GM. He has an opportunity to make a reputation. Like has been stated, this is like a card game. Having a reputation as a guy who doesn't bluff can make you a big winner, and it doesn't necessarily mean you don't bluff. You didn't even respond to what i said. You said " don't say one day "we will keep him and build around him" or have it floated out there, and the next, hold him from his start because you may trade him. I understand all of the misinformation that is out there, and realize most GMs know what is real and what is not, but if you are going to say it, make it at least appear as real as possible. Which means you took something someone said about what Hahn supposedly said and applied it to Hahns actions of keeping PV from starting. That means you beleive Hahn is directly responsible for that piece of misinformation and he contradicts himself by starting PV. That just shows me you don't "understand all of the misinformation that is out there."

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) If Peavy gets injured his first start with another team, there will be adjustments to the trade. They will claim he was damaged goods. So really worrying about him getting hurt is moot. If he's that close to something going really wrong, any trade will be adjusted. There simply is not enough time for a complete physical. Um No ! Let the buyer beware . Where did you come up with this ? Show me a precedent. You do your homework you make the trade he is yours. End of story.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) That's a good point, but don't say one day "we will keep him and build around him" or have it floated out there, and the next, hold him from his start because you may trade him. I understand all of the misinformation that is out there, and realize most GMs know what is real and what is not, but if you are going to say it, make it at least appear as real as possible. If you get a reputation as someone who won't bluff, other teams have to act accordingly, and then when you bluff, you get away with it a little more. If you have to resort to using all that misinformation that's out there to build your case then you have lost already. Quoting a misquote , none quote, or crap that was made up and then using it to try and find some consistency in Hahns actions does not compute.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) I think there isa fine line between a tough negotiator and being unreasonable. Keeping PV out is a courtesy. If you get known as unreasonable, I think it hurts your abilityto trade in the future because others will stay away. This is his first year so he needs to be tough as he's shown but also willing to work things out. Ther's an old saying that applies here and that is if Hahn started him he would be " cutting off his nose to spite his face ." Can't see the forest for the trees would also apply. The big picture is right in front you .You you cannot risk PV getting hurt under any circumstances . None , zip, nada !! All your hard work will be worth nothing if by "playin" the f*** you I'll show you I mean business card, it blows up in your face.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:40 AM) I disagree. Unless we're really, really close on something (medicals), I'd start him. I think we give up some leverage by holding him out. Starting him sends a message to other teams that we're willing to move on with him in our rotation if we don't get solid offers. Hahn's first sign of weakness, IMHO. I think you over think things Starting him is like kicking sand in your trade partners face. You want the team that trades for him to be able to start him ASAP. It's a gesture of good will. OH yeah starting him means you risk injury DUH. PV gets injured you get NOTHING ! SIMPLE FREAKIN CONCEPT.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) You would have to ask them, but probably because they want their senior person on the team more people are interested in. Maybe they replace Gonzo with Jim Margulus from SSS . That would please many Sox fans.

This topic would not be complete wiith out the many who called him Crainwreck.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:42 PM) Or some hilarious motherf***er has been sitting on a fake Andre Rienzo Twitter account just SALIVATING for this moment, lol. A quick check of Charlotte's schedule indicates they are on the road @ gwinnet in South Carolina . Didn't the conversation with "Rienzo" say he was in Charlotte ? So why wouldn't Rienzo be traveling with the team ? I suppose I could've checked to see when his next scheduled start is and if they will be home soon in case he'd just stay there for his next start. But someone else can do that. So it could be a fake account or misinformation by Rienzo to deny . But why even converse or respond when you don't have to ? I'm calling FAKE !

I don't see anyone predicting any of our prospects move so I'll say one of Semien, Rienzo or Snodgress gets moved since they all have given us hope the system isn't as barren as once thought. Also it's the one thing that'll piss off the most people and make reading fun.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 07:44 AM) Then you are doubling the risk. Not only is it possible that Bundy may have been a bust without surgery, then you have to be certain that he comes back 100% from the surgery which is not a guarantee either. Just don't see it as the smartest move given Peavy's value right now. Thank you. If PV is traded we are getting healthy bodies .

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 07:35 AM) Starting him would also show the Sox would be content keeping him. If teams want to play games, play games right back. His value is decreased for the acquiring team this year by one start but the total package shouldn't change. I think while it won't be the original asking price because you should aim high, Hahn will ultimately get what he originally was willing to trade him for or more by tomorrow afternoon. If not, start him. Why settle? You show you're content with keeping him after 7/31 . There's no way you start him tomorrow. The only thing starting him tomorrow would show is the Sox are idiots.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 08:52 PM) Why is anyone surprised JR does not want to pay any money in deals? The ONLY reason Sox are getting better players through the draft is the slotted system or it would be the old draft the guy who will sign the cheapest. I'm only surprised you beleive what you read. If you are predisposed to think of JR as cheap than reading the Sox won't give up money fits right into you're thinking and you then only judge JR and overlook what you're reading may be untirely untrue. You lose objectivity.

Do you want Ventura back as manager next year?

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 07:56 PM) Any manager that watches his team lose game after game after game and makes no adjustments to the batting order is not a very good manager. I understand what you're saying and you're going to get the "all the players suck makes no difference how you change it the team will still suck " response. Your point is when you lose change is necessary and there is no better time to try players in different spots in the lineup to see how they do out of their comfort zones. I've found surprising resistance when I say the same thing. Read the other manager change thread and you'll see that. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=89284 -
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 07:26 PM) Royals no longer sellers The Royals will not be sellers at the deadline, Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan tweets Per MLBTR This is good news obviously. Takes another "frontline" starter off the market in Santana. I don't believe this nonsense about other teams backing off. They are testing Ricky boy. This is his first deadline and all eyes are on him to get a great package back. The FO knows the need to get impact players back that generates excitement for us fans. If we are trading away JP and others they need to make sure it doesn't hurt attendance. We just have to have patients Hahn is winning the staredown for now. Not to mention we need to get back a package as good or better than the Flubs got, it would be an epic failure if we dont for a contorlled pitcher like jake. He knows he has the cards and is playing them right. We have till Wednesday and although it sucks to wait for us. It only creates more leverage for us regardless of what the writers are saying. We don't have to move our guys, the teams interested need the players in order to make a Pennet run and a October run. I have a feeling by Wednesday we will all be praising Hahn for waiting it out. I'm not sure. It's like a pack group think, if they hear others are backing out the more likely they are to back out to or make offers so low that Hahn has no choice but to refuse the offers. I hop e I am sooo wrong, but I thought from the beginning these GM would horde their prosepcts because baseball is cycling that way again. Big free agent contracts and veteran salaries are out of control and this is the backlash.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:00 PM) What is tekotte good for if he isn't even fast? He's fast but baserunning not only about fast. Can only figure he didn't get much of a secondary lead or jump which would be terrible with 2 out . Most likely ball was just hit very hard and got to Dyson quickly.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) One thing that scares me about rebuilding, the Royals. All those highly ranked prospects suck. Gordon is the best thing they got out of all those top 10 guys and he's about as average as can be. Their best highly ranked prospect Wil Myers is smokin the ball all over the park for TB.

That was a bomb. Don't often see them hit there.
