  1. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) I think most people's problem with Owens is his defense. Jesse Owens also f***ing fast, BAD in CF. So his age, injuries, lack of gap or HR power, being on the roster and being an actual candidate to become a starter mean nothing ?
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) What's Berry look like up close and personal? I always thought she was a classic beauty. Couldn't tell you because it was a gift.
  3. Game 5 of the LCS against Anaheim during the 7th inning Pepsi stretch they show Sox fans in the stands . One of my friends from childhood who lives here in SoCal has his kid on his lap. Look for a little blonde kid with glasses wearing a Sox cap. The dad is a member here but never posts anything. I was there too just off camera.
  4. I only have a few autographs Willie Mays , Mickey Mantle and Muhammed Ali.. oh yea can't forget my Dave Justice and Halle Berry signed baseball
  5. To celebrate the signing of Colon I will be watching Fat Albert , Chun Yun Fat movies, 300 (he's gotta weigh that much now ) and listening to Fat Bottomed Girls (Queen).
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) I do think it would be funny if Henderson came back and played in the big leagues after getting inducted. If anyone would do it, it'd be him. There's our leadoff hitter.
  7. If we had got the good Ryan Braun it would have been up in the important topics.
  8. Yea yea Dye, Konerko , Poreda , Beckham for E.Santana, Howie Kendick, Kendry Morales, Chone Figgins. Green green green green green Throw in Getz or Lillibridge too .
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) You're forgetting we are in the AL Central and that we still face the NL in interleague play...we're not in the AL East, fortunately. Imagine being a Blue Jays or Orioles fan heading into this season? Not much fun. As of right now, we're looking at 70-82 wins and 80-92 losses. Somewhere in that range. I can't see us as anything better than a .500 club with three new starters, including a very questionable leadoff hitter, some uncertainty surrounding Linebrink being as good as he was in 2008 (first four months) and all the holes in our starting rotation. But 100 losses? I don't think so. Players like Getz and Lillibridge will probably end up giving the White Sox more of a boost than you give them credit for, and Viciedo and Beckham can have a huge impact as well in the 2nd half of the season to give us a "second wind," not to mention Contreras. I think the bigger concern would be injuries/aging across the board with Dye, Konerko, Thome and AJ...those four, in particular. Granted, the Twins weren't expected to contend at all coming into last season and hung in there all season, but their pitching possibilities looked more hopeful than ours at the back end of the rotation. I don't want to quibble over a few losses . Let's face it we got lucky last year in that Ramirez, Quentin, Dank's , and Floyd all were major contributors. That kind of luck doesn't happen 2 years in a row. I'll soften my stance to say we won't come near competing with the roster as it stands now. But there's no chance in hell it stays the way it is now. The real question is do we pick up more question marks like Homer Bailey and more Cubans with the payroll remaining basically the same or actually try to compete which has been KW'S M.O.
  10. Thanks for the update. Maybe KW's been so busy trying to get the Cubans that little else has mattered to him. Who could blame him if this was true. Both Cubans under 30 and with Viciedo and Ramirez to supply a bit of home the Sox had this golden opportunity drop right in their laps.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) really? I didn't think losing Big-Game Javi would cost us26 wins. News to me. Just 3 starters ( no Javy and no Contreras) with Carrasco and Richard having the most ML experience yea if that happens along with the current roster dwellers manning other positions it's 100 losses. Now I don't expect the current roster to be exactly the same to start the season but its getting kind of scary and I know I'm not the only Sox fan holding his breathe right now.
  12. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) ADD and ADHD are different. http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/learning/adhd.html Read under the heading symptoms.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 08:27 AM) This has been predicted several times by several people on the board. If it's non-guaranteed, I have absolutely no problem with it, as I trust Freddy as a #4 more than I trust Marquez. How pitiful is our rotation that you trust Garcia as a 4th over Marquez ? Now imagine going into the season that way . Hello 100 losses.
  14. For those of you who don't know . ADHD is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder . It used to be called ADD . You can google ADHD and find out more about it but it seems apparent that by the amount of cases ptatc is right . Players are trying once again to gain a competitive advantage through ADHD drugs .
  15. Just watched the Don Larsen perfect game. Picked it up in the 8th inning. I'm watching and listening to the announcer and it occurs to me Vin Scully is the announcer . Made me really appreciate how he's witnessed so much baseball, so many historic moments and playersand he's still at it any time I want to watch a Dodger game. There hadn't even been a perfect game in MLB since 1922 and Larsen had no idea that's what it was called. He just thought he threw a no-hitter.
  16. Sorry for forgetting the link. I was on my way out the door for work.
  17. Free agent Rocco Baldelli no longer has the sometimes fatal mitochondrial disorder but now has been diagnosed with the less severe and treatable channelopathy. What this means to his career path is unknown but it's much more encouraging than it was.
  18. I know the Dye/Bailey deal looks dead but found this about Bailey's mechanics http://www.drivelinemechanics.com/2008/12/...chanics-homer-b . In short his mechanics don't look so good.
  19. Told you all Tampa Bay wasn't going to spend the money to get Dye.
  20. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) what a draft that was for the red sox....ellsbury, buccholz, lowrie, bowden and hansen All in the 1st round after the Sox took Broadway.
  21. Are the Yankees really that much richer than everybody else or are they more willing to operate in the red to uphold a winning tradition ? Maybe MLB should increase the luxury tax. It doesn't seem like much of a deterent to overspending.
  22. In this economy the team willing to spend the bucks makes the big news. No surprise its the Yankees. Expect the Red Sox will be signing a few FA also.
  23. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) I think KW intends on getting a pitcher. I don't think Marquez will be our 4th starter. I think he will have to battle it out with CR/AP for 5th with the losers trying to find a way into the bullpen. The Sox need another starter and it would be better to get the pitcher with Dye and get the position players via free agency. Free agent pitchers want too long and too expensive contracts for the Sox. Is it just coincidence that the initials for Richard and Poreda spell CRAP ?
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) I'd rather have Charlie Villanueva. Bulls need that post up offense and Skiles doesn't seem to want to use it. Thats cuz Villanueva would rather shoot jumpers just like TyTom.
