Quentin Showing off in Charlotte
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) . CQ was hitting .800 in two games but Carlos Quentin went 0 for 3 yesterday and is now batting .500. I say trade him while we can still get something for somebody obviously on his way down I could 've sworn I posted his results from yesterday. He also had a walk so 4 AB's instead of 3 the previous 2 games.

Quentin Showing off in Charlotte
QUOTE (ObamaKnowsBest @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) Good to hear, but I would hardly call that showing off. I was expecting to see he hit 3 HRs or something. A headline is designed to grab your interest and make you read it. However I'd call an .800 batting average showing off.

Quentin Showing off in Charlotte
Yesterday CQ was 2/3 with an RBI and a run scored in a Charlotte win. Today he was 2/2 with a walk and RBI. So far 4/5 ,being limited to 3 AB's per game . All singles 3 to center , 1 to left. Don't think he pushed it on the bases going station to station in the Charlotte win.

7/5 Sox @ Royals 1:10 WGN
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) With each crappy performance by Richard he looks less appealing as part of a package deal. If he was looking so good then he wouldn't be traded . I'm really sure that other GM's especially in the NL know he can develop into a quality starter and he's lefty so very appealing.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) Am I the only one who paid any attention at all to how we went about developing Danks and Floyd in 2007? ...or how pitchers have been developed throughout the history of baseball. But everything has to weighed against winning the division at this point. Throwing Poreda out there for a start or 2 won't hurt anything.
-
Why is Clayton Richard in our starting rotation?
I am a big believer in Clayton Richard but it's time to let Poreda start before inactivity no longer allows him to give 5/6/7 innings of quality work. One start gives him a chance to see what he can do and let's Richard rest and regroup pitching relief.

Halfway home in 2009
QUOTE (hawkubes @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 11:41 PM) I agree 100% with this post, and how could anybody imply that Linebrink perhaps deserves a lower grade? One more thing, how does Jimmy Gobble not get an F. Josh Fields has been a disappointment, but he's certainly done some positive things for this team at times, Jimmy Gobble has not. LMAO at Jimmy Gobble getting the same grade as Alexei, come on now. Put up your grades and maybe we can LMAO at your grades. He already said grades are not purely based on performance but expectations also. It's subjective, have some bllss and put your assessments of the players not your assessment of his assessments.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) I know some south american countries have big asian populations. Peru had a recent president who I believe was a son of Japanese immigrants. Apparently a lot of Chinese immigrants went to Panama to build the canal when things weren't so good in China. His grandfather Changed his name to JOSE Chen.

Interesting note on Chen . He's of Chinese descent but was born and raised in Panama as were his parents , so he speaks perfect Spanish.

Gordon Beckham's Last 15 Games
On 6/12 Beckham's BA was .071. In the next 9 games through 6/24 he went 8 for 32 (.250) raising his BA to .172 . On 6/25 after a 2 game mini-slump of 0 for 7, he was benched but scored the winning run in the 13 inning 6-5 win against the Dodgers. From 6/26 to 7/1 a span of 6 games he went 12 for 21 (.571) raising his BA to .278. In the last 3 games he's 8 for 11 (.727). Over the last 15 games in which he had an AB he's 20 for 53 for a .377 BA. The .383 avg in the thread title I got from CSN is off . My stats come directly from the box scores. In those 15 games the Sox are 10-2 when he has at least 1 hit and 1-2 in games he had 0 hits. Of course all this coincides with the recent brilliance of Danks, Floyd, and Contreras and Buerhles regular efficiency.

QUOTE (ObamaKnowsBest @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) I think this thread has been misinterpreted as a Thome bashing. Not intended that way at all. No one else shocked when they saw Fields had more hits than Thome? Not me ,it's quality not quantity that counts and one helluva OBP.

Why this team COULD NOT and now WILL make playoffs
QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) I just don't see the CQ equation that some of you see, how does: Mediocre to Average, then a little injury + Really Sucky, then major injury = Coming back and Mashing and Saving the offense? I'd almost say there's as big a chance him coming back would actually HURT the line-up. Especially if you have a bunch of guys clicking like Dye, Paulie, Becks, Ramirez et al. You stick Carlos back in and he strikes out or grounds into double plays killing innings and such. They just just shelve him for the season now, and hope against hope he can come back healthy in 2010. The team is doing okay with out him so far, and he wasn't exactly lighting up the world before his DL stint.... I don't think the majority of us see the equation you put. More like this one: Quentin> Anderson/Wise/Fields/Nix =a more potent possibly lethal offense.
