  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) The Sox have options no doubt as far as trades, but trades will be made to improve now and not as a fire sale for prospects who might be years away. It's beginnig to be like a broken record with some: trade Dye, Trade Konerko, trade Jenks, etc. You don't trade the guys who are producing if you are contending for a pennant and anyone who doesn't think we can contend just ain't looking at the standings. All we need to be concerned about at this time is the AL Central where we are in a situation to contend. We win and we are in the playoofs and anything can happen. Hopefuly we do that and are playing like we should be when playoff time is here Again agreed. Making the playoffs means extra revenue and contending means more paying customers. If KW can improve the team this year and beyond by acquiring another pitcher or bat he will.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) They could move Jenks for a ton of value with Thornton moving to the pen though. That might be a major possibility, especially if he could use Jenks to get a young ace or use Jenks to get a really good looking outfielder/bat. Agreed but that all depends on how Poreda and Richard perform in their roles w/e they might be. I can see Jenks , Dotel or Linebrink moved then.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) He's certainly not going to pull the plug now. I agree . He tried to get Peavy and ungraded at catcher very recently showing that he wants to contend. Anyone who thinks otherwise isn't paying attention.(Cowley)
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 09:16 AM) Please burn this thread. We're 4.5 out in June and we've been without our best player. 100% agreed. Cowley knows nothing. It's just idle speculation using the dreaded "firesale" word to grab attention. If Poreda as a starter does well and Richard out of the pen (or vice versa) then we have the room to move a reliever. No important pieces will be moved shortly unless you consider Wise / Gobble being demoted or released or Colon to the DL a firesale.
  5. Firesale my arse. KW always wants to content. Crap record means crap attendance. The dead weight will be gone soon. That's about it. Because the division is bad the Sox have a little room to experiment with the youth. If it pans out great we have a better chance to win the division. If it doesn't then we're no worse off than we are right now.
  6. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:51 AM) What was Ozzie's quote to the media yesterday? "Good teams win games. Horse**** teams have meetings. Well, we're to the point where we're going to have a lot of meetings." My guess is Ozzie doesn't want to play the kids and wants to keep Wise and Kenny said the kids are going to play and Wise is gone. Also from a marketing standpoint saying the team is horses**** isn't likely to put butts in the seats.
  7. Colon will be DL'ed . Contreras will take his place. At this point the Sox are desperate, searching for answers hoping to catch lightning in a bottle so I think Poreda will be starting and Richard will replace Gobble in the pen where he had success during the playoffs last year. Fields is as good as gone. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see Jenks or Dotel moved also. Wise too ,gone as soon as Quentin comes back.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:25 AM) Now sign him to a one-day contract and let him retire with the franchise he belongs with... take a cue from the Blackhawks and repair that relationship. Does Kenny Williams have to die like old man Wirtz did for that to happen ?
  9. JOSE ! ALEXEI ! JERMAINE ! BIG JIM !
  10. Just because Beckham doesn't pull every pitch doesn't mean he doesn't have bat speed. His thing is to go with the pitch and use the whole field. He'll eventually be a doubles machine when he gets going.
  11. Beckhmmm , Bacon bits, Slain, Ofer Beckham, Beckhype
  12. That prediction was based on the fact I didn't think Fields would cut it at 3rd defensively and I'm pretty sure I said somewhere that Fields would end up playing 1st base eventually and in my mind Beckham was ahead of Viciedo.
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 14, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) Konerko. Dye and Quentin all have 100 RBI and 30+ HR Thome has 30+ HR and 90+ RBI Alexei hits .300+ 25 HR 75 RBI Getz hits .275 ,steals 15 bases AJ hits .280 10 HR Brian Anderson hits .260 15+ HR 55 RBI 10 steals MB, Danks and Floyd all have 15+ wins Colon wins 8 befor he gets injured then Contreras win's 8 when he returns. Richard is 5th starter , wins 10. Poreda is the LOOGY. Jenks saves 40. Bullpen ERA is just under 4 Beckham becomes 3rd baseman post All-star break. Viciendo gets AB's as DH against lefties and PH duties post ASB after tearing up the minors. Sox advance to ALCS and lose to the Yankees in 7 games. Thank you very much just got the date wrong by a month or so.
  14. Beckham becomes 3rd baseman post All-star break. That was one of my bold predictions . 1st page of that thread which was recently bumped.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) 3-0 on the Campbell goal here in the 2nd period. Hawks making the best of their power play opportunities. Buff is playing awesome right now. Gotta give a lot of credit to Pauhlson for that.
  16. Hawks close it out ! 4 games to 2. Final score 4-1 . Khabbly 43 saves. Buff empty netter and 2 assists . One to Burish ! Kane with a rebound goal. Campbell with his 1st goal in 50 games. Go Hawks !
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) The more I think about it, the more I wish Ozzie would have just not said anything about Anderson. The last thing you want is Anderson changing his approach at the plate or pressing if he has a bad game. Anderson's used to this kind of thing. We are seeing some adjustments by him already . He's taking walks and being more selective at the dish. If he continues doing that he'll be an asset to this team.
  18. I don't understand why so many of you take everything so seriously. I know we all love the Sox and all and have our opinions but we don't know squat about what goes on in Ozzie's mind or his reasons for saying what he did. For that matter we don't know anything about the inner workings of the team. Our opinions are based on knowing only what we see happening on the field and reading the opinions of those who have slightly more knowledge than us. I'm not supporting Ozzie or Anderson here, just saying our knowledge isn't worth the effort of trying to understand .
  19. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) If batting over .400 ain't worthy of all star consideration, than I'm not sure what is. 9 for 22 is about 9 more hits than I would get in 22 at bats (not that I'm an all star....I'm just saying he's that much better than me.) Before he gets named to the American League team though, we should sign him to a 10 year contract for $60 million or so to avoid any costly arbitration setbacks in the coming years. BA deserves our support and tis time to show him that he has it! And you're basing this on a whole 22 at bats. Sign the guy till he's 37 . I'm glad he's starting now but if he ever makes $6 mill a year for 1 year I'd be surprised .
  20. Why would a K count against someone ? Does hitting into a double play count against them. Does making any out count against them? Am I missing the rules somewhere ? Why not just have positive stats count? Maybe points for total bases , rbi, and runs. I know it's a little late to change anything. Consider it for next year or after the all-star break.
