  1. That's whats been most impressive so far about Danks, he doesnt seem to let runs bother him. He comes right back out the next inning and shuts the opposition down.
  2. Yea it also gives me other scores on demand , league leaders in batting, pitching, stolen bases, k's ERA, BA, RBI's, HR's, OBP and standings.
  3. I'm lovin my new DirecTV receiver . It can pull up the box score in game.
  4. that was a perfect strike against Punto . Molina didnt move his glove an inch . Ump hosed him.
  5. I think it was an inning earlier when Gary Matthews stumbled under a routine fly ball the the Angels announcers said how difficult tracking the ball was in the Anaheim twilight. When it happened to Erstad it was almost like they expected it and mentioned they'd seen it happen to him before especially when wearing those glasses he had on.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) So Konerko, Gooch, Uribe, Dye, Crede all suck now because Prancer and Thome are out of the lineup. They cant hit fastballs because Prancer is not doing his prancer dance at 1st, and Thome isnt underneath the Cell taking batting practice. Whatever. I think you're hallucinating . I said the CF wasn't an automatic out anymore so then anyone else on the team . Why pick on him ? Maybe you used to beat up the new kids to come into your school just because they were new or you envisioned them being a threat to steal your girl . And just in case my reference is too vague to understand I'm referring to Brian Anderson as your girl and Erstad as the new kid . QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 12:02 AM) An out generally means someone has gotten out on the bases, not that you didn't get a hit. You can walk and not make an out. So no, not everyone is more of an automatic out than the CF because the CF makes outs at about a 68% clip. When you say someone is an "automatic out" you are not referring to someone who has gotten out on the bases. You are talking about how they do when they bat. Such as the pitcher is an " automatic out" . Even you know that much. I think you just like to mess with me.
  7. QUOTE(TheHolyBovine @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 06:23 PM) Yeah, I've been paying attention buddy. I just know more about baseball than you. Batting average means nothing. Runs scored, power, and OBP mean everything. Your precious CF comes up short in everything that matters. Apparently you weren't paying attention again to what you said this time. You said the CF is an automatic out. That refers to batting average. An out means you don't get a hit . A hit increases your batting average, an out decreases your batting average. Baseball 101 Mr. "You Know more about baeball than me" . All I said is that everyone is is more of an automatic out than the CF which is true.
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 06:33 PM) Wite, I was going to go through with it, but it was going to fall on deaf ears. Since when has the number of hits and stolen bases been the best indicator of who is the best offensive player on the team is? Erstad hasn't stolen a base in a week, and this team isn't stealing bases anyways. Now how is it 3 weeks is too early to evaluate a player yet apparently 1 month is an acceptable amount of time (over a 6 month season) is enough to tell people to eat crow? I don't recall anyone saying Brain was never going to be sent down during the season. Just as what I say falls on deaf ears. When everyone was assuming BA would be sent down after it was announced Erstad had won the CF job I was one of the few to say he'd stay with the team. Its not like I hate BA . Hell I wish he'd be a greeat player as I wish every Sox player could be . I'm just annoyed that there's so much venom directed towards players especially a pros pro like Erstad. All you hear around here about the offense is that we rely too much on homeruns and this is an all or nothing offensive team so when a guy like Erstad comes around you hear the exact opposite . Now his OPS sucks which is a stat mostly based on power production. Its like this site is bi polar. You cant cry about the all or nothing offense then get a table setter like Erstad and cry about his OPS. All I'm saying is its time to move on and find another scapegoat. He isnt the reason the offense sucks just part of the reason along with 8 other guys. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) I think I'm gonna have 10 kids and tell them all to hate Darin Erstad LOL go to bed , you have school in the morning !
  9. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) Albert Belle was still playing when Erstad had 240 hits. Seeing as how the second most hits he's ever had in a season is 177, I think it's safe to assume that 240 was a career year and he'll never come close to that again. And, part of the reason people are so critical of Erstad is because he IS coming off seasons of multiple injuries. How can you use that to defend him? I still figure he's bound to get injured, but if he can be healthy and produce, I'll be fine. I still won't like him, but I'll be fine. Sweet, a .260 average. Let's send his ass to the All-Star game. Erstad having the highest average on this team is the exact same thing as being the tallest midget. He has sucked, as have like 7 others in the normal lineup. LOL, have you ever listened to yourself before? I mean, it's horrible for people to say the guy sucks because he's hitting .260 on April 29th, but it's perfectly acceptable to say the guy is great because he's hitting .260 on April 29th? I don't think there are any foots going in any mouths yet. I bet you're one of those guys who was calling Jermaine Dye "dead" when he got off to the slow start the year the Sox acquired him. I'd bet my bottom dollar you're no older then 22. You can't see the forest for the trees. Its easy to defend Erstad because he was injured. The Sox signed him because he was healthy. Odds were he'd be rusty. If he's healthy and produces you'll be fine ??? Well I was really worried about you . Thank God you'll be fine ! And pray tell if he is healthy and produces why wouldn't you like him ? Because he made you look like a fool perhaps ? The Sox needed an upgrade in CF and got one . They improved the team. No one is saying he's great or is an All star so don't even try to make it seem like I said those things. What I said is its a long season (meaning theres still a chance that he will get injured or be a non productive player) and as of this moment he's the least of the teams worries. So basically its time to STFU and root for your team and learn to see more than whats in front of your nose. Hopefully you learn a little patience before you start producing offspring.
  10. QUOTE(TheHolyBovine @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 08:26 AM) We don't have great talent. Without Thome, only Konerko and Dye are above-average offensively at their respective positions. Everyone else is average or below. To answer your question: We'll hit better when we no longer have automatic outs in LF and CF. You haven't been paying attention have you ? The guy in the regular lineup with the highest batting average is the CF. And right now we have automatic outs just about everywhere in the lineup considering everyone but the CF is hitting below .225.
  11. I guess this thread is no longer needed since Anderson is no longer. Its amazing to me that people were so quick to write off a player who once had 240 hits in a season , has won 2 gold gloves at 2 positions , was coming off a season with an injury and few at bats , and a guy whose ex teammates praised constantly for his leadership and approach to the game. Not only is Estad fielding well he's the highest hitting guy on the team of those not injured. 1st in hits and stolen bases. 2nd in runs scored and doubles. 3rd in total bases. Lesson learned kiddies. Don't be too quick to judge. Patience is a virtue. Open mouth insert foot , hope it taste good along with your crow. It's a long season but as of now Erstad is the least of this team's worries.
  12. QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 05:54 AM) In the summer of 77, I was going into the 6th grade and it was the 1st summer I had ever gotten excited about the SOX. Zisk, Gamble and Soderholm really set the Scoreboard off that summer Not to mention Jim Spencer had 2 games about a week apart with 8 rbi's in each game . The start of Nancy Faust playing "Na na na na Hey hey hey goodbye " and the many curtain calls after homeruns. The fans were electrified even more so it seems than the 2005 season.
  13. In the original Thome injury thread , I said he'd go on the 15 day DL and Williams wouldn't go outside the organization citing the Toby Hall example. I heard the Sweeney news on Comcast.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) You honestly believe Thome will be fine after two weeks? Yes, why do u have reason to belive otherwise besides pessimism ?
  15. I had graduated high school the year before and had not yet found the route to California. 16. QUOTE(zenryan @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 11:21 AM) 2 of the 11 draft picks were wearing Sox hats at their home while being drafted. I'm pretty sure it's for fashion but I still liked it! 18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 11:01 PM) I saw Dante Bichette hit for the cycle, live and in person. The guy isn't exactly fast, and I don't even remember much about it, but I remember it happened. Alphonse Dante Bichette hit for the cycle June 10, 1998 in Coors field against the Texas Rangers which the Rockies lost 9-8.. Was a 5 tool player, whose best years were with the Rockies . No doubt benefitted greatly from the Coors Field effect. Had a great arm. Led the league in HR's , RBI's and hits on separate occasions and was a 30/30 guy somewhere around his prime. Finished 2nd in MVP voting in 1995. Here's a box score of the cycle game. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/box-scores...id=199806100COL I found the baseball card commemorating the Dante Bichette Cycle. Its from Score, Card #TC9 (The Cycle) . Was a special insert card not sure of the year maybe 1999 or 2000.
  19. I could have swore I have a baseball card that said Lance Johnson hit for the cycle once.
