We don't know anything for sure like you said was the point. We all want our opinions validated about how we feel initially in any trade. You're talking about theoretical scouting department misses on Fletcher and DeLoach but if Mena's reason for being traded also turns out to be correct it becomes a push. We all know scouting and development of baseball players is much harder than in other sports. We also know not to give the Sox the benefit of the doubt too. So declaring advanced knowledge that a trade was horrible or great when it involves players at different levels of development isnt justified until there are actual reasons . How would we evaluate the trade of Sale at the time it happened compared to now ?

I just asked that people don't decide within a couple of months who won a trade of 2 young players and snopek agreed while commenting about internet points which I don't think was a veiled shot at me. And you respond by making fun of me without showing any proof that my attitude about Mercedes was an "I told you so moment" . I've been that way on other topics for sure because I believe that if you have to take massive amounts of s%*# for your opinions that end up being right, you're entitled to give some s%*# back. In the beginning I'd ask why no one ever talked about him in future Sox because I saw that he always seemed to be able to hit.I was just making an inquiry about a player that I knew nothing about. It was pretty easy to surmise that he must be a lousy fielder if he's old for the levels he was playing at and his hitting could also be a result of that. But he eventually got brought up and had a fun run. Was I proud that he made it to the big leagues and I was the guy who started talking about him early ? Sure it's like watching a relative like a nephew that you may not know so well start doing good and telling more relatives about him. But it wasn't like I scouted him and knew he'd make it to MLB. Just because I don't automatically agree with the majority and dare voice a minority opinion is not a reason to to go all Wolf pack on someone, tearing them to shreds . Soxtalk can be a cruel place with a bunch of keyboard warriors who could give a rats ass when they attack someone without proof and using hearsay and innuendo, taking things out of context or using their own hurt feelings to justify their assault or worse yet because the rest of the pack is attacking so I feel fine doing it too. Would be nice if people ever let trades marinate for a while. If it turns out its a minor leaguer for a minor leaguer it just makes the trade a push. But as of right now we have no idea how Mena's or Fletcher's career will go.

Perhaps you can provide me with 1st year GMs who had payrolls slashed as much coming off 100 loss seasons who had tighter leashes . No 2 situations are the same and acting as if they are is bs. Yes teams like the Orioles Dbacks ,Pirates all have made strides recently but look how long it took the Orioles and Pirates. How many teams rebuild with the same GM and President in charge of the downfall as well as the rebuild ? How many of those teams refused to play the game in the Dominican Republic like JR has for 45 years ? What do you know about the best coaches, best scouts and best training facilities of other teams as compared to the White Sox ? How often have other teams traded away their international money compared to the Sox ? These are only the questions I can remember to ask.There would probably be many more if I could remember everything about how JR conducts business that seems a bit different than other teams. There's also the fact that the Sox are one team of 2 teams to never have signed a player to a $100M contract. At least I accept the fact I know practically nothing about what's going on behind the scenes and don't pretend to know everything about the Sox and every front office in the game . That's the only reason I have for cutting any executive hired by JR any slack at all.

You are a constant ray of sunshine. Getz' job isn't to accept massive failure. It's to improve the team every chance he finds. He pretty much had his hands tied by the slashed payroll. I really don't think there was much he could do besides spend a little here and there and try to get some projects to turn into minor leaguers at the TDL. I have no idea if Getz will be a good GM or not. It's difficult to say when JR is pulling all the strings. I really have no idea what you think should've happened this off season but I'm pretty sure it was unrealistic from Reinsdorf's perspective. Saying that Getz should just do nothing now isn't going to happen. He has to reshape the future of this franchise without money . Because of that everything is just baby steps that look unimpressive and unimportant . But another minor leaguer at the TDL could end up an important piece for the future no matter how remote that seems.
