That's a Winner, Winner Pasta Dinner Sox Win
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Oh yea fun to dream about . Maybe if we get full attendance at some point this year, make the playoffs ,go deep in the playoffs, Rodon stays healthy and if Lynn and Rodon both decide they would like to stay with the Sox. -

Won't even need close to that amount. There were a lot of years in that deal.Wouldn't likely need more than $75M combined to resign the both of them and that's covering at least 2 more years for each of them. -

Long long way to go to get to that but if we are going there kind of hard not to include Rodon in the discussion. -

Also Leury making the haters look bad again. Always helps to get strong contributions from the bench. Lamb also with 2 walks and no official at bats and Grandal 4 walks and no official Ab'S. -
Here's some good discussion from a Future Sox thread from August 2019. Was actually a good baseball discussion that had disagreements but no verbal assaults.

I probably wouldn't be able to do it mainly because it's easy to find the info on those 19 putouts on Vaughn because that's all he has. With Eloy unless you watch video of every game it's very hard to find a streak you asked for. You can't find defensive stats that only cover certain periods of time like a few weeks or a month and a half. If I'm being honest I'd say the same thing I already said which is indeterminable at this time because of lack of data. Vaughn has so few chances I can't remember seeing Robert taking Vaughn's catches away like we saw when Eloy was camped under routine fly balls and Robert called him off.

Indians @ Sox 5/1--3:00 Central

Nope only today counts but while I do agree with you I hope regulars get more rest in non division games but you would get the same complaints there too. But if McKenzie is truly terrible against lefties that does appear to be a good time to play the lefties. LaRussa is still experimenting with his guys and while some have the foresight to understand these things there's no justification for the instant gratification crowd for ever playing subs when the regular is better or a prized rookie. -

I agree on that part of it. At first he couldn't locate it and when he did he was jogging and the runner on 2nd took advantage of it. -

Looks like he got crossed up and Stroman missed his spot badly. The announcers seemed a little harsh on McCann. -
This is what I have been saying about those who say he passes the eye test. As you said he just hasn't had a lot of tough plays to make so far and hardly any towards the line. Even mediocre OF'er should routinely catch the 3 star chances. It's those 4 and 5 star chances that determine if you are outstanding and his speed just won't get him to get to those high level chances. Eloy gets some of the worst jumps in the majors as an OFer but once he gets going he has decent speed.
-
DO you have cute video of this ?
-
When Buxton was sucking really bad I was saying I'd trade for him in a heartbeat. Physically gifted, great speed , outstanding CFer. Yeah I'll take my chances he'll mature as a hitter.
-
For sure.
-
He passes the eye test because he has a grand total of 19 putouts and no errors. Some people's eye tests are a little more extensive than that.

This is the optimal way to reply to arrogance in a situation where there is clearly no right or wrong.

See what I mean ? Excuse me if after I see posts that still mock me by basically accusing me of things I never said that I feel I am being wronged. So yes again and again and again if i think its necessary . Deal with it. The Vaughn fan boys are still laughing at my posts because I said I didnt like it and think it's rude so they behave childishly and do it more. It's so immature as was your post.

This is a good post. Another thing about the bar room analogy is these sports bar arguments do have a tendency to get heated and erupt into violence occasionally , it happens at the ballpark too once in a while especially during Sox-Cubs games. @fathom is a great poster. Very witty, doesn't carry on protracted arguing, gives props to other others right in the thread or in a pm. He posts in a non combative manner , not this shoot from the hip, i can hide behind my keyboard style. He posts maturely.

I don't know your generation and I don't care . My opinion has been working so far. In what way was I wrong ? If you can't tell the difference between occasionally rest and favorable matchups and demands for playing a very inexperienced player every day and putting that player in a position to do better you have lost your marbles haha lol and any baseball knowledge you think you process. Everyone on this team gets rested and LaRussa plays backups oh noooo I am so wrong ! Vaughn gets pinch hit for by Eaton against a tough righty . Oh no what is LaRussa doing ? Eaton hits a HR. I was told everyone knows I am wrong because I was in the minority. That's some fucked up thinking. Maybe abolitionists , suffragettes, and those who thought the earth was round were wrong too.

This is the problem I have being older and walking slowly. Vaughn starts slowly. LaRussa takes him out of the lineup on occasion. I agree because of various reasons I lay out in a reflective non hating on Vaughn type of way. Getting some favorable matchups could help him gain confidence,he doesn't have to be out there every day ,he's had so little minor league experience, it's a huge jump he's making etc. But all that gets ignored and all of a sudden I'm the Nick Williams lover and Vaughn hater who says Vaughn can't hit righties. Every time Vaughn isn't playing it's non stop venom being spit in the game threads. "Vaughn is playing great now why isn't he playing "? in like 10 posts in a row. Finally, I said has anyone stopped to think that he might be playing better now because LaRussa plays him in games he views as favorable matchups (almost all lefties and some finesse type righties) for Vaughn so he could gain confidence instead of running him out there against righties with nasty sliders and overwhelming heat ? No critical thinking at all just misdirected anger at LaRussa and anyone who thinks he's making the right call with an inexperienced young hitter and left fielder. Every time Vaughn now gets a hit it's like " I was told he couldn't hit righties" or "maybe Nick Williams should ve played today ." I think LaRussa put Vaughn in a position to succeed and it's working.

Not to the Sox . Having too many good players means they can trade one for cheap young starting pitching. Rodon, no idea how long this version of him lasts but probably gone next year. Keuchel not getting younger, Lynn gone after this year most likely. Cease has to prove he can be consistently good. Kopech coming but not there. Crochet a long way from being a starting pitcher so doesn't even make sense to look ahead with him. Stay healthy and we'll see. Giolito's the rock but starting to show a few cracks but he'll be fine. Sox can't keep on expecting the minors to fill pitching holes. No Wheeler , no Gallen , no Burnes, no Woodruff, no Darvish , no Snell.
-
Cease 1st and foremost. Vaughn,if he can keep this up , steadily gaining confidence from the selective match ups TLR gives him , he'll be a big boost to the offense in an expanded roll . Mercedes , the man, the myth . I hit only 450 ft HR's or I won't hit HR's. Leury proving that once again a versatile , switch hitting, speedy ,jack of all trades is an asset. Moncada and Abreu doing what 3 and 4 hitters should do. Madrigal waving the magic wand and pulling rabbits out of hats.

Tigers @ Sox 4/29 Game 2
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in 2021 Season in Review
Is that a rhetorical question or can I take a stab at it ? I would think 1st and foremost that Coop wanted him to work on locating his fastball and probably wanted him to do it without also asking him to change his delivery . I think it was a step by step approach whereas Katz said you are doing so many things wrong we have to rebuild you from the ground up. Trust your stuff, we'll make changes that should allow you to stay more consistent with your delivery and they used the bio mechanics to show him in intimate details what was wrong. Coop was just too old school and while that will work on many occasions , many teams, Dodgers, Astro's, were using high tech. It took the Sox a long time to catch up. I remember the Dodgers had probably more than a dozen high speed camera's used for ultra slow mo while the Sox had one just a few years ago in the middle of the rebuild. Sox are still playing catch up in those things but they have made a lot of progress in finally joining the 21st century. It took them a long time to figure out Cooper was never going to be a student of the high tech available now. -
