What if Yermin Mercedes keeps hitting?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hey you made it look like I was quoting the same things you were lol. Just letting everyone know that you only posted the link to the article 1st so I decided to include part of the article then you edited yours to include quotes. -
White Sox Team WAR 3rd in the majors behind LA 7.8 and Boston 7.5 , CHW 6.6* . Right now a little defense and pitching will go a long way. *fangraphs

What if Yermin Mercedes keeps hitting?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was just about to post that. "Fabulous Freddies, located one mile from Guaranteed Rate Field, added “The Yermínator” to its menu in honor of the White Sox designated hitter. " “I want The Yermínator burger right now. I'm hungry. I want to try it,” said a smiling Mercedes. “I've waited for it all day.” According to a review by chicagofoodmagazine.com, The Yermínator is a Dominican Chimichurri Burger, a traditional Dominican street food. The ground beef patty is seasoned with Dominican flavors and topped with tomatoes, pickled red onions, shredded cabbage and the eatery's secret chimichurri sauce. -
Game time 6:10 PM CDT.

The bottom of the lineup can be quite pesky with Mercedes, Vaughn and Madrigal giving the pitcher quality AB's , drawing walks and hitting well with 2 strikes on them. I like the 3 of them in a row. Power with pain in the ass qualities.

What if Yermin Mercedes keeps hitting?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think your thinking on the subject is sensible but could have made without using SSS . Hell his whole existence to this point is a SSS . I like his approach as other's like Vaughn's approach. He's got a little bit of Madrigal in him as far as attempting to keep the ball in play and blooping some hits here and there. The difference is he will K more than Madrigal, everyone does, but he can also hit the ball 485 feet. He's quite unique so far. His B.A. dropped to a mere .390 so he responds by going 4 for 4 and it's .429 again . -

That part I can also agree with since I made many posts on the subject but I also made a post that said I understand the EE signing though I didn't personally support it. I wanted Collins and Mercedes to get an opportunity but once EE was signed that was the end of that. Now I am just grateful that fate stepped in and gave him an opportunity when I was resigned to the thought that he was not going to get one with the Sox. -

C'mon White Sox Dave. That's pathetic Pandering to the fanbase. The guy should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We are still in a pandemic. Here is this guy violating security and running around on the field without a mask. Maybe he's a bio-terrorist who the fuck knows. They should start putting up signs that say if you enter the field of play you will be tased and treated as a threat to national security and prosecuted to the full extent of the law and make that announcement before games also. -

I love the silver lining approach here Jason ! Just because some areas are blah now it doesn't mean they will continue to trod upon yon murky path. -

I've been a little harsh on him .But I do kind of like his style. I scold him at times but he takes it well . I think now we have mutual respect for each other. -

Not even a cold streak. Hitters regularly can go 1-6 in 2 games . People want Vaughn in the lineup because he has a good approach. Yermin's approach is just as good plus he stepped right into the limelight and ran with it. He's doing something incredibly rare right now. Celebrate the madness that is Yermin ! -

I think you're looking at it all wrong Ron. I do agree 100% that Yermin should have been given a shot as early as August/September2019 . But think of it this way. What is happening with Yermin is destiny. Who knows that, if given a shot earlier, he would've done well. What if did badly ? Maybe then the Sox decide he sucks, he can't hit ,he's too old, he can't catch and they DFA him and some other team grabs him. You know as well as I do that I have made quite a few posts about the lack of opportunities he was getting but that is in the past. We both have been championing him for a while ( I was 1st as proven by your challenge to prove who was 1st by an impartial observer* ) . Just say this with me..Yermin is great, Yermin is good. Thank you Destiny ! * @Quin was the impartial observer -
Seems odd to say Yermin shouldn't be batting 7th when he has a 4 hit game and 3 RBI batting 7th and the Sox lineup as a whole has a season high in hits and scores 9 runs.

Not suggesting anything about a platoon of Engel and Hamilton. Just suggesting it's time for Vaughn to start getting some hits or he will be back in the minors when Engel comes back or Hamilton or Lamb DFA, not sure which will happen.
-
Oh this is set up nicely . Engel conveniently comes back just as the minor league season starts. One more week for Vaughn to do something noteworthy.

I like it TBPA+ . Let 'er rip and let's see the results. Might want to put catchers interference in it too even though you won't find that On base stat anywhere but some guys naturally let the ball travel deeper and get those calls more often ( Tommy LaStella, Jacoby Ellsbury).

And considering how often the Sox as a team have struck out so far with men in scoring position with less than 2 outs when just a ground ball or fly ball scores a run you might think that making contact would be a skill that we should like a little more. If a sacrifice fly does not go on the hitter's record as an out why is a groundout with a runner on third that scores the run count as an out . They accomplish the same thing yet one reduces the hitter B.A. and other stats and the other one doesn't ? Plus a ground ball is more likely to lead to an error more often than a routine fly ball that scores a run. Of course shallow fly balls and groundouts to the pitcher aren't good but at least when the ball is in play sometimes weird things happen, a lot more than K's leads to strange occurrences. How many times do we see pitchers make poor throws to 1st ? When I watch the condensed games on the MLB app the Sox aren't alone in fielding miscues, bobbled balls, bad routes, dropped balls ,poor throws and errors. We saw a play in which Vaughn got a hit on a high chopper when if the SS takes his time and makes and accurate throw he gets Vaughn by a full step or more. I think in the same series (Cleveland) the official scorer gave an error on some bad throw that would have been much closer. It might have been a slow roller by Mercedes. It's a lot harder play charging a slow roller, bare handing it and making an accurate throw sidearm while bent over than it is to wait for a high chopper to come down while running towards 1st and just a short accurate toss to get the out.

And if Cease has 3 games in a row where he looks like he has turned the corner while Dunn gets hit hard in 3 in a row, then the actors become quite dramatic once more in the Soxtalk production of SSS Theater.

What if Yermin Mercedes keeps hitting?

Ok so I used a bigger sample size than 8 games so if we want to use a smaller one in his last 6 games he is hitting .292 .583 Slg. and .875 OPS . If you want to use a sample size between the last 6 games and his last 11 (15 days) days to prove your point so be it if you only want to use BA as your only stat which would be unlike you. -
Yea Madrigal and Robert are hitting well and they are in the bottom third but Timmy and Eaton are doing well also so not sure what you do. Tim, Eaton, Robert, Moncada , Abreu, Mercedes, Grandal , Madrigal, Vaughn . I know it's strange for Vaughn to be at the bottom but if you want a hit or contact against a RHP with a guy in scoring position I'd go with Madrigal.

Seems a bit strange to be playing him at 1st base but I suggested he play 1st probably 2.5 years ago on here when he was still playing in Winston-Salem. Hope he doesn't cost the Sox any runs there. Abreu needs a rest.
