Um so you all are right and and I'm the only one arguing this way? Please check the lineup cards .
-
No it's not a SS size because it's over 14 AB's . That's the line you drew in the sand. That's good enough for you. And stop lying .

Also @35thstreetswarm I stuck up for McCann when everyone was telling me that he is what he is. I saw a young enough player who could turn it around. Even approachin his last year with the Sox there were still many saying the 1st half of the season was just a fluke and he became what he was in the 2nd half. Then he proved it again last year in the short season that he was a valuable member of the Sox last year and then people started saying they should've kept him instead of Grandal. Even a big supporter of McCann as i was I couldn't agree with that. I was against getting Puig last year because of his behavior and one guy kept making fun of me. So this year I suggested the Sox could get Puig when Eloy went down and the same guy now said Puig was too volatile with another behavior allegation hanging over his head. This is not to say I am always right. Nearly everyone hated the Mazara trade. I liked it . Again I saw a young player with potential , a young guy with pedigree . That one didn't work out. But I am consistent . I don't hate Vaughn but he has nothing to offer the team now except AB's against LHP. I love his approach but he's just doesn't have the speed that's required to be valuable to the teams defense and pitching right now. When he proves he can hit I will love the guy as long as he plays 1st base or DH in whatever way the Sox resolve the problems with him doing either of those right now. I am done. I hope when Vaughn plays again either against RHP or LHP pitching he kills it and the Sox win !

Yes I see a LH who is 27 yrs. old who is faster than Vaughn , has played OF more than Vaughn and has had a few decent seasons hitting RHP in MLB who also has good power. We see what we want to see apparently only I am objective and the rest of you are blind to Vaughns lack of anything resembling what is needed to win ballgames . It's all about what he could be if only given the chance . It's never about his total lack of experience doing any of the things you all keep saying he is capable of doing if only the Sox just played him every day. The Sox won yesterday with Williams in the lineup and the Sox played perfect defense and got perfect relief pitching which they didn't get while playing shit defense. What others see doesn't always mesh with what I see . I saw Mercedes/Collins as a viable alternative to DH instead of Encarnacion but I understood why the Sox went with EE . I didn't piss and moan about it until after the season. Now the whole board loves Mercedes. I argued with Ray Ray about Eaton. He hated him I didn't and also btw Ray told me Mercedes couldn't hit a curve and laughed at me about him too.

Ahh so you can use a SSS but I can't? Please please tell me for future reference what SSS is good enough to use. You used a 14 AB sample size and I used a 8 AB sample size. So I can probably deduce that it's fine if I use a 14+ AB sample size in future arguments with you. Got it. Just keep paraphrasing me that's totally accurate or maybe that's called lying.

So making a guy play in the upper minors now is a platitude? Name one guy who only played A ball and stuck in the major leagues. Even those who disagree with me and that is prety much everyone say he should be sent down if he's not playing so in a sense they agree with me because he will not play against anything but favorable matchups. I am not taking the White Sox organization's side in this I just agree with it. He should be sent down as soon as Engel and Hamilton come back. I don't know how many times I have to say he's slow and a bad defender. He can't pinch run and if he makes the last out in the 9th in a tie game do you want him to be the one starting at 2nd base in the 10th? Do you think if he was in there yesterday he catches that foul ball Williams caught near the netting ? I forget the situation . Maybe it was when Marshall got out of the bases loaded jam. Maybe it was when Heuer was pitching. Is Vaughn out of the game by then ? If Vaughn is in there and doesn't catch that ball it costs pitchers pitches and maybe more perhaps even the game. Is it bad organizational management to keep him up and play him in the right matchups until the minor league season starts and then get the extra year back by keeping him in the minors for longer than a month ? With both Engel and Hamilton out the Sox have no choice but to keep Vaughn for some matchups so Williams doesn't play against lefties.
-
Um the guy I just quoted who said he is cooling down so perhaps Vaughn will get more DH AB's. I swear half of you guys either don't read what I'm responding to or willfully choose to ignore it. That's what's comical.
-
1-5 in his last 2 games with 3 walks while also still being a .500 hitter .556 OBP .781Slg. and 1.337 OPS . I guess he should be on the bench when his average drops to under .500. I do appreciate the support that Vaughn isnt a LFer but if Vaughn was 1-5 with 3 walks there'd be people calling for him to play more not less. That's how absurd it's getting around here with the Vaughn worship.
-
Why did you bold that and not answer the question ? He is here and should be playing every day Ok so u think that .400 OBP means something so then I am allowed to say that his .000 avg and .200 OBP against RHP means something too. Both are very small sample sizes. If you can use one to your advantage then so can I . You only want him in left field because there's no where else for him to play because Mercedes took away his DH AB's so it has a lot to do with Mercedes. Remember you guys keep using that OBP 1st I never brought it up because small sample sizes by you or me means nothing. All you got is his pedigree to support Vaughns playing time. Nada, zip, zilch, nothing but that, not speed, not experience, not defense, not performance. .
-
Well duh of course I realize it because you bolded the part where I said that with the word injuries included . How could you bold it and be blind at the same time ? This either play him or send him down never offers any reason to play him except for the fact he is up and his pedigree. What's wrong with keeping him around learning and practicing with MLB players and playing against favorable matchups until the minor league season starts then sending him down ? Does another 2 weeks on the roster ruin him ? Another 2 weeks does not prevent the Sox from getting the year of service time back either.
-
As do I but I see no sense in playing him unless he has a good matchup. No matter how long he is up here the Sox will try to get the year back unless he shows he can contribute against the matchups he does get. Then you can try him more against righties but now he doesn't deserve anything handed to him on a silver platter because of pedigree. It's unfortunate injuries led to this but if Engel and Hamilton are uninjured ,Mercedes doesn't get the chance. So now Mercedes is taking Vaughn's DH AB's and Vaughn was only tried in LF because of the OF injuries and the emergence of Mercedes. Sorry everyone but if there's a silver lining to less Vaughn PT and the injuries, it's Mercedes . It's not my fault Vaughn is too inexperienced with both hitting MLB pitching and with playing LF and too slow too contribute in any other way. If you all don't like me calling a spade a spade, oh well.
-
Do try to keep up. Did you somehow miss that I could use SSS stats by citing how he has hit against RHP and the 000. B.A. and .200 OBP against them ? Citing either one is stupid but he brought it up 1st so that was my counter against it. Right now there is no difference between Yermin Mercedes and Vaughn except pedigree and minor league experience. Everyone wants Vaughn to play because he is the guy who hit like a monster in college and is highly rated prospect so therefore he should be playing everyday. Yermin Mercedes is slow and had no position he could play well and didn't have the pedigree so higher draft picks played over him because of that. Vaughn is slow, cannot play LF well and 1st base has Abreu and he has not seized his opportunities . Very few wanted Mercedes to get a chance and he couldn't even get ranked in the Sox top 30 prospects. Pedigree and lack of defense. I'm sure Mercedes could've been switched to 1st base a long time ago except well there's always the dogs with pedigree blocking the way for any position he could play since he is a mutt. Yermin earned his way on the team through sheer perseverance, good hitting in the minors, injuries and seizing the opportunity when given. Vaughn has done none of that. The only thing so far he has going for him is pedigree. Pedigree is why he is here but it does not guarantee continuous playing time not even when his competition is Williams , Hamilton or Engel when he returns. I will not die on the hill saying Williams deserve full time playing time just as no one should be advocating for Vaughn playing full time based on pedigree. Play each against the pitchers they match up well against for now and hopefully they can contribute to wins.
-
Dude you brought up the .400 OBP so if you could do it then I can do it too. Now you're just going round in circles . Yes I see how easy it is and now I am supposed to use the stats I already gave you again or what ? The point was that using that .400 OBP stat is stupid and does nothing to support an argument for his playing time.
-
That's what I keep hearing from every one who insists that he keeps playing because there's really no reason for him to keep playing except against LHP if winning means anything to anyone. Yet a few days ago when I said he will be sent down I was met with extreme skepticism. Vaughn will more than likely be sent back down when the Minor League season starts but he's not going to be playing here every day so everyone needs to get their heads wrapped around that. Hopefully he develops like the stud he was drafted to be in the minors and contributes to team wins at while he's still up here and when he gains more experience.
-
Are you just going with the flow or actually prefer him to keep accumulating negative WAR and keep playing ?
-
If great springs counted for anything Engel would ve been a superstar a long time ago and Yermin would have been our DH 2 years ago. Keep citing that.400 OBP in a few games and forget his .000 BA and .200 OBP vs. RHP or the fact he has no speed and isn't a great left fielder. He's been accumulating negative WAR stats in his playing time.
-
It's really surprising to hear this from you. Vaughn hasn't done anything to earn playing time except against LHP. He has no middle or even upper level of the minors playing time at all. If you are going to actually use SSS stats then use his .000 Batting average and .200 OBP against RHP. Neither one has earned time but I'll take the LH hitting matchup from a guy who has some decent splits in his time in the majors over Vaughn at this time. This is being objective and not favoring a top prospect who warrants neither defensive, offensive or speed consideration to be in the lineup atm.
-
Do you know anything about baseball ? You are citing stats from a few games ? Yes Williams hasn't hit in 2 whole games and Vaughn hasn't done anything against RHP in a few games. Tell me again what has he done to deserve to play . Don't tell me about what a great hitter he was in college. Don't tell me about his great minor league stats at the high levels of the minors because you can't. He isn't a great defender. He isn't a speedy runner .Right now there is no reason to play him against anything but LHP if winning means anything to you. But apparently it doesn't when you choose to gripe about Vaughn not playing in a game the Sox won. Last night was a great win . Try happiness.

DIdn't the pitcher walk 2 guys and then Moncada got a hit and Mercedes is supposed to swing at the 1st pitch when he is usually a good hitter with 2 strikes? If he didnt swing at the 1st pitch it's because you want to make the pitcher throw a 1st pitch strike after some walks and bases loaded to put the pressure on him. The pitch he K'd on was a total fluke. Catcher set up outside , pitch was supposed to be outside, Yermin was looking outside. The pitcher had the pitch get away from him so instead of low and away he got it up and in. His approach was sound just like he has shown it to be in just about every one of his plate appearances. I wouldn't call it pathetic at all . A lot of the other ones have been pathetic but not his. I also wouldn't say he is normally aggressive on the 1st pitch. He is aggressive on his 1st swing . -

No he shouldn't but the minor league season hasn't started yet so give him some favorable matchups and keep his confidence level up. Let him prove he belongs up here instead of us fans looking at his pedigree and expecting him to do well instantly or thinking he is better than playing a LHH over him who has already had 900 semi productive AB's in MLB and also wanting so badly to imagine he's a left fielder while bitching about the over all team defense. It's not complicated at all. People are using their imagination on him instead of their eyes. People were proclaiming him an adequate LF before even seeing him for more than a few games without having seen him going to his right or having more than a few flyballs to chase after. SSS for OBP you used so if we are going to do that its .000 BA and .200 OBP against RHP for Vaughn. -

Let him get experience in the minors That's where everyone else gets it. You don't just throw him to the wolves or throw him in the deep end of the pool. Right now scrubs are better than him. -

Conversely I don't see how you can come up with a compelling argument that Vaughn helps you win a ball game more than Williams against RHP. Everything atm is a SSS but Vaughn has looked better against LHP 0-8 against RHP , 2-6 against LHP. Williams 0-4 against RHP. Between the 2 of them it's 0-12 vs. RHP. I'd rather play the matchup and hope Williams is better defensively which I am not entirely sure is true. -
The team ISO is 18th in MLB (.148 )and last in the division so worse than KC,Detroit and Cleveland but the Yankees and A's have been a lot worse. Sox are 23rd in % of hits for extra bases . Errors per game the Sox average 1 which is the worst in baseball and they are also near the bottom in turning double plays. Too many extra outs are being given by the defense. 4.99 Bullpen ERA but it's really the late inning guys , our expected best guys not getting the job done. Kopech and Crochet have been great keeping it close through the middle innings. But outside of them when Ruiz is the only other one being good it get's tough.
