  1. Just to get this straight, "unprecedented circumstances" means the continuing fight against Covid and the likelihood of a strike after the 2021 season? Or perhaps it just means Covid since 1 more season can supposedly be played in 2021. If this season cannot be finished and the possibility exists that 2021 will not be better, what is the rationale behind spending big ? If this season is a failure and does not result in the playoffs for the Sox or the season cannot be finished what would be the incentive behind spending more money when the money spend this past off season would be basically flushed down the toilet . I know that the FA contracts paid out by the Sox will not be fully paid but that still leaves a lot of risk especially if we are no better off next year regarding the health of the nation. Owners too will be hurt if we cannot get people back into stadiums to watch games. There is bound to be lasting effects from Covid that will hurt attendance for at least a few more years. I can't imagine spending more money in more years marred by Covid and a players strike in the 3rd year in which Covid still may be around. That could be 3 years in a row that only partial seasons are played and all 3 could result in the World Series being cancelled. The Sox window could not have opened at a worse time. I am not being pessimistic . I'm just looking for a reason that ANY team would spend big in "unprecented circumstances " that may become even worse than they are now.

  7. Do you think the White Sox or their school could have provided them with the tweets ? They did go to the same school didn't they ? I kept looking at them thinking they are very similar in style and the quotes. Both quotes ten lines thanking friends family and coaches, using "first of all" and "first and foremost". One says "crazy journey" , the other says "crazy ride" .Both have a dash before their full names. Both with the SOX symbol prominently featured, both in a Sox uniform in a pitching motion.
  8. Did I miss something? People are talking like Kopech is going to or has already opted out, Surely there would be a new thread if that was happening.
  9. The only team that matters is the White Sox. The other team means very little. It's only the Cardinals because they fit into the schedule based on teams playing other teams according to geographic location and how close it is to Iowa, , The very last team MLB would have picked is the Reds, The original team chosen , the Yankees, also had nothing to do with the plot of Field of Dreams. I would imagine the criteria for picking the teams was 1. Had to be the White Sox because of the main ghost being Joe Jackson and 2. a team that has the power to attract a lot of fans on TV .
  10. You were ? Is your name in the credits ? Extra ? I actually like Bull Durham more. It's just funnier and has baseball groupies in it .Field of Dreams takes a while to let the viewer know the purpose of the voice and ghosts so the significance of Ray's relationship with his Dad never quite gets the attention it should ,We never do find out why Ray is the one to get a chance to repair his relationship with his father by way of baseball when plenty of kids and fathers screwed up their relationship and never get to repair it.
  11. You said that much better than I did a few posts earlier.
  12. Just to refresh everyone's memory: Various Kopech stories leading up to and including his spring debut. These are gearde more to getting quotes about his baseball only state of mind post surgery as he approached throwing competitively again. https://chicago.suntimes.com/2019/9/26/20886214/tommy-john-surgery-best-thing-to-happen-white-sox-michael-kopech-says https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/white-sox/ct-chicago-white-sox-michael-kopech-haircut-20200122-qludkcny7zagpiz5qbwjwbxbtu-story.html https://www.mlb.com/news/michael-kopech-makes-spring-debut https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffarnold/2020/03/09/as-white-sox-push-for-contention-michael-kopech-returns-to-form/#1d09ea934f92
  13. It's helpful to Crochet that the Sox need more quality left handed relievers for this season at least. If he is impressive in the taxi squad , if Rodon doesn't impress where ever he is used and Bummer and Fry falter he may well be the next best LH option in the pen. He can still be a starter down the road.
  14. Your talent as a baseball player will only make being an activist get more attention which as an activist you want to bring attention to your cause . Being a poor befuddled activist will not bring attention to your cause. Of course this is just me speculating about you speculating about what others are speculating what the problem is. Wow I wish twitter didnt exist. I can see why Kopech deleted his. Please ignore this post .I feel dumber for having written it.
  15. I've given it some thought and all we can do is speculate and see what happens. I think they go with a 5 man rotation. Kopech in the pen to start the season unless Gonzalez isn't ready to go either. Only Lopez Keuchel and Cease pitched much in ST so I think those 3 along with Giolito are in the rotation. That leaves Gonzalez, Kopech and Rodon. My guess is Gonzalez is in the rotation , Kopech and Rodon in the pen as pitchers following the starters perhaps Kopech pairs with Keuchel and Rodon (if healthy ) pairs with Lopez or Cease. After that you just manage innings and build up stamina in all 7 . By game 30-40 start shaping the rotation with who has pitched best with an eye toward the playoffs . Who knows maybe a surprise guy like Dunning comes out of nowhere and forces himself in the conversation too.
  16. I don't understand why it should be the Reds. Are we confusing movies here ? It's "Field of Dreams" not "Eight Men Out". What did the Reds vs. The White Sox have to do with the movie Field of Dreams ? I know Joe Jackson was the 1st ghost to appear but it's not like the 1919 Word Series was part of the plot. Joe Jackson is only significant because he was the favorite player of Costner's Dad in the film. How does remembering the biggest black eyed season baseball has ever had match up in calling it a Field of Dreams game.? Is it wonderful to celebrate that terrible incident ? Field of Dreams celebrates the glory of the game itself and how baseball has been with us through the years as a symbolic thread that binds us and has built bonds between fathers and sons through something as simple as playing catch. I keep seeing a few guys saying it was a terrible movie. Maybe you just don't see why people who love baseball love this movie. Maybe it requires a couple of things to love it, I would suggest watching Ken Burns Baseball documentary, all 9 innings of it and having played catch with your old man many many times through the years. If you did not do that as a child then please do it with your son or daughter every chance you get.
  17. Maybe too conveniently aligning with his service time. I say that without belittling what may be a serious situation.
  18. Hopefully that's what he's been doing since his 1 and only appearance in a ST game. But he now appears to have a crisis of some sort. No details yet. It's in another thred. Someone will probably start a new thread about it. Might turn out to be be nothing but the announcement did have an ominous feel to it.
  19. Yep look at what happened with Andrew Toles;. https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/story/2020-07-01/andrew-toles-family-mental-health-dodgers
  20. Without wins swagger is just bluster . Gotta walk the walk if you're going to talk the talk. You lose, gonna lose that luster , buster.
  21. Also Desmond and Zimmerman both opted out did they not ? To list Cespedes 4th when he had barely touched a bat in 2 years seemed like quite biased reporting as if he is a Mets fan. Its an insult to a guy like Encarnacion who has been one of the most consistent power bats for 8 years straight; I do hope he has another good year in him. For those who don't find much use for Batting Average i tend to think it reflects or signifies the beginning of the end for some hitters, EE's has been steadily trending down now for 4 years but he deserves the benefit of the doubt until there's a dramatic dip . He really has had much more success since he turned 29 , Hopefully a guy like Yermin Mercedes can learn and benefit from him as longs as its not chemically induced.
  22. I didnt even know such a thing existed. Is that like a bunch of AAAA types headed to Nashville to work out in case someone wants them later ?
