Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
I don't know if it's Jerry pushing to spend or it's been the plan all along once they thought the rebuild had run it's course. It's just really bad timing that it coincided with the upcoming spending frenzy this off season. That's why it's so White Sox. Only reason why guys are signing early is there are just better offers so far this early in the off season. Agents and players have a number in their heads and those numbers are being met. No sense waiting around when you are getting the offers you wanted. Wheeler might be different. They might be getting better than anticipated offers and might wait to see just how high they go. i might just go after Ryu instead at this point . Once Wheeler signs Ryu is the next feeding frenzy.

A good organization could've asked Moose how he would feel about playing other positions . It's not like DH or 2nd base turned out so great last year. He also could've backed up Abreu at 1st. Paid just as much for Yonder Alonso as the Brewer did for Moose. Friends and Family plan hurt the Sox more than missing out on Machado.

Jonathan Villar traded to the Marlins
Makes sense. Marlins would;ve had 1st shot at him being the the opposite league and with the worst record right ? Guess they decided not to pass on him and let another team grab him.

Ken Rosenthal, Jon Heyman say White Sox have better roster than Cubs for next five years
Oh i know what you were saying I was just arguing previously about hating trading for 1 year guys like Pederson and previously Samardzija. It never makes much sense to me especially now still looking to get in a position to compete rather than needing a final piece to win a World Series .

I agree sort of with some of it. And I argued in the past for signing more free agents even in the non competitive window. This is so White Sox check it: While the Sox were in the rebuilding mode prices on free agents were down down down. I was begging for the Sox to sign Moustakas and JD Martinez to take advantage of the market Of course it didn't happen and probably for the best since our draft picks were better. However, now what is the board here talking about ? Free agent market being manipulated to hold down prices previously but now this year getting close to the new CBA they will be skyrocketing in what year ? Well it's the year the Sox decided they were going to be big players in the Free Agency Market. The same year as everyone else doing it so no one could accuse owners of collusion . I guarantee if you think the Grandal and Moustakas and Gibson prices were a bit higher you aint' seen nothing yet. And the Sox are right smack dab in the middle of this feeding frenzy. Not an enviable position coming out of a rebuild. So White Sox luck or is it mismanagement . Could this have been foreseen ?

Ken Rosenthal, Jon Heyman say White Sox have better roster than Cubs for next five years
True and as a final piece that worked out to win a World Series I am OK with it too. But we aren't that close yet so I'd rather not trade minor league talent just yet.

Sometimes the best moves are not making moves. I know you like Joc but I'm always against trading for a 1 yr . players . I hated the Samardzija trade and I hated all the talk about extending/resigning him despite every single sign and quote from him pointed to him becoming a free agent. Terrible trade in the 1st place but at least the Sox didn't compound it . Glad he chose free agency. Sit on our talent . I rather see if they could succeed here than with another team. Cubs unloaded some serious talent.

Some here, maybe a majority, or 50/50 probably think the Sox won't spend on a DH. when pitching will be the next big expenditure and with Grandal, ABreu, McCann and Collins plus anyone else when backups get starts in the field.

Jonathan Villar traded to the Marlins
Every good depth piece counts a lot. If Anderson, Moncada,Madrigal anyone who plays a position Villar plays, has a season ending injury or out for a few months Villar steps right in and the Sox can still compete,

Jonathan Villar traded to the Marlins
You never know . SSS defensive grades don't mean much. If he has the speed for CF he can play right depending on his arm.

Jonathan Villar traded to the Marlins
He would go straight to the top of my off season list ahead many I have been listing as a solid backup option like Moose or Holt or Kendrick. Just one year for the expected arb price isn't bad at all for a youngish, 4.0 WAR, switch hitting, power hitting base stealer who can play infield and OF. Plus for only a year you can see how he performs and decide if he could be a piece moving forward. It really depends on what some of those other guys are asking for . A Zobrist type guy is always pretty valuable on a contender. Could always see if you can trade Leury and keep Mendick to soften the salary blow.

Yolmer non-tendered
Oh so you are a humanitarian now. Is that why you bring it up so much because you care about his health ? Funny that never quite shines through in your posts, You know you can die from snowboarding from running into a tree, you can break a leg or arm , it can be dangerous so I can extent the health angle to that too since the original question from you was "why would anybody give a shit if he snowboarded". There you have your answer from your own fingertips. Game, set. match.

Me too but I immediately then go to MLB network. Their scrolling banner at the bottom of my screen would say BREAKING about any breaking news in baseball and it didn't so I knew it wasn't a big signing .

Oh c'mon now he's stating the obvious. Noted and re-noted already 1000's of times He even said it happens regularly. It's like me yelling BINGO that Merkin can come to the same conclusions as the rest of us. It may or may not have anything to do with Yolmer and it took no special knowledge except staying current with rumors to draw that conclusion. Merkin could be right or wrong just like the rest of us. I love the optimism and normally I am the optimistic type but when it comes to rumors I'm indifferent at best. Getting any news won't happen any faster because I have a positive attitude or put my belief in total strangers. I guess I just don't like feeling gullible or taken for a fool. 99.5 % of it is pure unadulterated speculation. I can do that myself without help from that 99.5 % .

Relax, asking sin city for info is like asking me and don't ask me ! I got nothin'. He did it for fun or torture for the more naive/gullible.

It took a lot of balls to post this. You are literally crucifying those who post on twitter regarding sports rumors with intentionally vague posts that can be interpreted in different ways. Often they are intentionally vague so people can ask you "what do you mean by that ". Correct me if I am wrong but the whole point of Twitter if used for those purposes is to generate interest and get followers. People have their reasons for this either hoping for some type of rep or revenue based on that rep. It really is all about the clicks or becoming a somebody on that particular social media .The more places you post your info besides Twitter, such as here ,the more people beg you for info and kiss your ass for it and follow you. You build up a following and maybe somewhere down the road you can have a blog or podcast with ad revenue. It's a different kind of resume that someone like me cannot present if I decided I wanted to be a writer/blogger/podcaster on the internet because those people would have a built in following and I would not.

Exactly. It's all just speculation based on putting 2 and 2 together and hoping it equals 4. We saw the Yolmer news and speculated it had something to do with Wheeler based on the other Sox rumors flying around from NY about Wheeler and the Sox. Merkin did the same thing. If people choose to believe he did more than that based on his connection to the team that's their choice. It is not mine and others.
