Guaranteed Rate guy went to all the 2005 World Series games. Seems very genuine. Ty Pennington in the booth too. -
Sox v Phils 8/24 guaranteed game thread

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 05:40 PM) Shields gave up two runs with twivoyts But at least there were no homers allowed Jinx ! -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 03:17 PM) Brooks Boyer: "The arrow pointing down is very good for pitchers' ERAs. We're working on creating logos for the facility.'' Brooks, the red down arrow has to go no matter what weird spin you try to put on it.

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) If everything goes well I'll assume Hansen finishes the year out in GF, attends fall instructs, and starts the year in W-S. He may be on the South Side by late 2018/2019 realistically...And if Sale/Q stick around: Sale, Q, Rodon, Fulmer, and Hansen make for a VERY nasty rotation It's fun and very optimistic to speculate but if that is ever the Sox rotation I'd be very surprised just because of injuries, trades, development and time needed for that to happen.

Shields could lose rotation spot
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've had running arguments about Shields with Feeky from the get go. Well not the get go. I was very much against the trade when it was announced. Then softened my stance when I thought the Sox got a decent price on him. His first 3 starts were a disaster and his next 6 or 7 were good if you look at runs allowed and ERA. I thought it was possible for him to be a decent 4 or 5 thinking he isn't as good as the 6 or 7 good starts but couldn't possibly be as bad as the 1st 3 starts. Now Feeky and Co. pointed out his peripherals were bad and he'd do worse. They were right, he has. But I never argued he'd never be worse and they never said how much worse he get. My main bone of contention is just the whole thing about predicting someone to suck based on peripherals leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I mean if someone has a .500 BABIP pointing it out to me that it's unsustainable is a "thank you Capt. Obvious" moment. Why be a fan if you can't enjoy when someone is doing well ? Just seems to me a person is happiest when his team does well or in my case Shields doing well for those good starts. Waiting for the other shoe to drop so you can say "see I told you he;d get worse " is kind of bass ackwards to me ,making the fan seem happiest when they are right . It's hard for you not to be right. I mean during his decent stretch he ha an ERA in the 2's so even if he pitched the next few games at a 4.50 ERA you'd still be right but 4.25 to 4.50 isn't terrible as a no. 5 in the rotation. Trouble is he's been uniquely bad ,even worse than his first few starts. That shouldn't make you or me or any Sox fan very happy. So yes Feeky you were right. He got worse . Thank you Capt. Obvious. It was never me saying he could sustain his good run or not believing in peripherals. It was always more about predicting doom for your favorite team just doesn't sit well with my enjoyment of the game. Just thought I'd clear that up. So my apologies if you think I was snarky about sticking up for the Shields who looked much better for those 6 or 7 starts in a row. I hope the Phils don't bash his brains in again tonight because I want him to do well as I do every guy on my team. Since we appear stuck with him I hope he makes some adjustment because the current version is DFA material. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 07:21 AM) Completely disagree here. If Abreu were his typical self, the Sox would be .500 or better IMO. So many games when he just didn't do anything when they needed more. This version of Jose, Morneau in the lineup all season, and Ajax healthy, this team would be right around where most thought they'd be, which is a few games over .500. Don't know why you'd completely disagree. From what you said and what I said sounds pretty much the same. Problem is Morneau was not available earlier and you can't undo injuries. So take away Morneau and Ajax and your few games above .500 becomes .500 even keeping your new improved Abreu in the lineup. I said the Sox wouldn't be much better meaning they'd be better but not by much . 4 games under to .500 sounds about right.
-
QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) Good to see him coming around but where was he when we needed him? The Sox would most likely not be very much better even with Abreu hitting better. Without a consistent 3,4,5 in the rotation and injuries to the pen the Sox have done OK to hang around .500. With Rodon pitching much better now and Jose hitting better and with Morneau the offense is now better and so is 3/5 of the starters but the bullpen is still a mess. A messy bullpen can undo quality starts and better hitting in a hurry.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) haha oh man this is so so so bad: Narvaez 2, Garcia 9, Sanchez 4. Rodon 1. Narvaez has been good so far.Great eye at the plate. Avi was starting to get hot before he got hurt and got 4 hits in his 2 games at Charlotte. Sanchez will get an xtra base hit tonight. -

August 21st 2016 6th Inning Game Thread Finally Started

QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 21, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) Almost blew it. At least Q got the win, good for him. He deserves to be a 20 game winner. Best pitcher ever to take so many years to win 10 games. -
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) I did not see all angles but from what I saw, there seemed to be a question as to whether or not the catcher maintained possession instead of bobbling or dropping the ball. I guess they either had a camera shot that showed he had possession or they didn't have evidence to overrule the call on the field. In any case, it was really foolish of Joe McEwing to send the runner on that play. McEwing has been a terrible third base coach all along. He is as responsible for that loss as anyone. We should have won that game. He had possession all the way. There was a shot that showed a lot of white of the ball but it was in his glove at the time and his glove with hand in it was knocked against the ground or close to it. The ball just stuck in the webbing even though the catcher wasn't able to grip it very tight.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 01:18 PM) Alright. Watched the replay... 1.) Sanchez had a PATHETIC lead off second when the ball was hit. 2.) He didn't get an aggressive secondary lead and held up a bit on the hit, unsure if it would drop or not. 3.) It was fielded shallow and was an aggressive move to send him home 4.) If Carlos had a more aggressive lead, secondary lead, and flawless read off the bat - he would have scored. He didn't need to read anything. 2 outs so any hesitation would just be plain stupid baseball that little leaguers should execute properly.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) I'm anxious to see the replay. For only one reason - to see the jump Carlos got off the bat. Baseless hypothesis is that he didn't get a good jump and would have been safe if he was a better base runner. The guy sucks on the base paths. In that situation ( 2 outs) Sanchez has to get a huge secondary lead and be moving toward 3rd base even before the crack of the bat while allowing himself enough time to get back on a catchers pick off attempt. As he was approaching 3rd it was pretty obvious if he was sent that a good throw would nail him. Exciting game though and nice hitting by Saladino .
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 01:06 PM) The ball took him into the base path. It was a legal play. He didn't drop the ball either guys. The broadcasters are just spewing biased crap all over. This is correct. If the catcher is going to catch a ball that brings him into the base bath ( which it did) and a collision is unavoidable (which it was) , it's all legal. Besides I'd be ashamed to tie the game on some silly rule where the runner was clearly out by 7 feet.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 07:35 PM) Whatever Stanton just did, didn't look good Looked like a pulled left hamstring.

Zack Burdi not coming to Chicago this season
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 12:14 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0810-story.html If he truly does possess three plus pitches, why wouldn't they at least attempt to turn him into a starter? Instead, they will rush him to the big leagues to replace Robertson for yet another supposed "all in" year? Logical. You don't know if that is the plan. Right now they just might want to see if he can maintain what he has been doing at a higher level. The more you find out about him the better prepared you are to make future decisions. -
August 11th Game Thread: White Sox @ Royals

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 05:56 PM) Groin strain. Burdi and perhaps another pitcher could already be on their way up with the 2 extra inning games and now the injury. -
There were a ton of naysayers on the board when I first brought up Morneau as an option. Glad he is fulfilling my expectations and doing better than others thought he was capable.

Sox Tigers game thread

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) Let Avi play when he's hot. Unfortunately that means putting him in the field, but he does go on some nice hot streaks before looking clueless for a month or 2. That 2 homer game that second one was a BOMB. I guessed it at about 460'. Just found it on Statcast and they said 465'. Today's wasn't a cheapie either . TV replay didn't show where it landed but over the 420 sign guessing about 435. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 07:05 PM) You said the money owed to Puig was a nice chunk of change when we owe more than that to Shields. Sox need talent . Sox need power and he's a decent fielder with a strong arm. Get him and have him go to a shrink in the off season.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 06:30 PM) Not watching but heard Avi hit a bomb and rewound it. Holy s*** he crushed that LOL Anyone have any idea how far his 2nd HR went ? I'm guessing it was in the 460' range.
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 05:58 PM) Any chance this convinces anyone who was talking about how well Shields was pitching and blasting anybody mentioning his peripherals to reconsider? Your requisite I told you so post. Big deal so after 6 or 7 good games he had a stinker after 4 shutout inning against a team averaging over 7 runs a game their last 6 . I'll still take the 6 good ones in a row then a stinker every time from the 4th starter. I guess you feel vindicated now. Go celebrate your massive intellect.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) 1. Rodon's development 2. Anderson's development 3. Tilson- see if he can play ball 4. Sale starts This all I'm really paying attention to the rest of the way. May not go to another game. I can add more. See how long Shields and Gonzales maintain there string of good starts. Might be a pretty good rotation next year if they can pitch better than typical 4 and 5's. See how the September call ups do. Q's starts. See if Abreu ever pulls a fastball right down the middle for a HR. See if Frazier can get his doubles and batting average higher than they are now. See how bad the current bullpen implodes. It is seriously bad now. Watch if Fulmer can throw strikes.
