  1. http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/matt-davidson/n-7wKPTmEeKZ5AAmVebBJg/gendersport/baseball-stats.htm Matt Davidson's Yucaipa, Ca. pitching ( and all his stats ) Pretty good stats both hitting and pitching.
  2. I remember an interview Matt did from a week or 2 ago and he said he used to be a decent pitcher. From a Tribune article early March : As a kid, the White Sox third baseman/designated hitter lived life on the mound and to this day Davidson calls pitching “a passion of mine.” Found his pitching stats from his HS days in Yucaipa, Ca. link for anyone who wants to see it less jumbled together http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/matt-davidson/n-7wKPTmEeKZ5AAmVebBJg/gendersport/baseball-stats.htm Pitching Year Grade Team ERA W L W% APP GS CG SO SV NH PG Varsity Totals 1.06 27 5 .844 18 33 8 4 6 08-09 Senior Varsity 1.60 4 1.000 13 2 1 1 5 07-08 Junior Varsity 0.88 4 2 .667 5 8 06-07 Sophomore Varsity 1.21 9 2 .818 12 1 1 05-06 Freshman Varsity 0.76 10 1 .909 11 6 2 1 Year Grade Team IP H R ER BB K 2B 3B HR BF AB Varsity Totals 205 147 64 31 60 230 19 3 838 758 08-09 Senior Varsity 30.2 19 11 7 9 40 4 1 123 112 07-08 Junior Varsity 40 28 15 5 12 48 3 164 146 06-07 Sophomore Varsity 69.2 54 21 12 21 82 9 1 288 261 05-06 Freshman Varsity 64.2 46 17 7 18 60 3 1 263 239 Year Grade Team OBA OBP WP HBP SF SH/B #P BK PO SB Varsity Totals .194 .271 11 20 185 08-09 Senior Varsity .170 .244 1 2 185 07-08 Junior Varsity .192 .280 1 6 06-07 Sophomore Varsity .207 .281 5 6 05-06 Freshman Varsity .192 .266 4 6
  3. Yea he does but sometimes you just have to watch. I didn't play a ton of baseball no little league or organized ball ever but I was an athlete with a Chris Sale body. Loved hitting and making great catches and hitting the long ball when I'd play "fast pitch" or asphalt ball or softball. Sometimes you just amaze yourself especially when I got older and was playing softball in my late 40's and hitting the ball farther than I ever had because of the composite bats. I miss playing can you tell ?
  4. I think we need to exercise patience. It's a learning process for the more casuals fans too.A guy like me lives and breathes baseball and I pride myself on my knowledge of the game and take a realistic/optimistic view on most subjects . Game threads make me crazy some times. More fans is a good thing. Just take a teachers point of view rather than an" OMG are you nuts ?" viewpoint.
  5. Me too and the thing is when I thought it was great Roberts was showing off the wheels I'd get comments like but but he could get injured. Same thing early in the season when I thought the Sox should steal more this year. The Sox have a lot of speed and to not use at every level when you should be learning and perfecting base stealing techniques would be ludicrous. I know Robert has had his share of nagging injuries already but to not use and develop his skills is just almost as damaging to me as an injury.
  6. It's crazy is what it is. I know interest in the minor league teams is great and all but let's not forget these guys are all works in progress and in their 1st year or 2 in professional ball and will make changes to their games along the way. Collins has already made a series of publicized changes. If they all (pitchers and hitters) just were all great from the get go they'd be breezing through the system. They all have to fail at some point to understand nothing comes easy.
  7. Fangraphs had an article on June 8th about Paul Goldschmidt not hitting 95+ 4seamers very well this year and listed the 13 worst. ABreu wasn;t on that list https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/paul-goldschmidts-troubles-with-velocity/ Fangraphs gets a lot of that info from Baseball Savant. Maybe Jose is on it now , maybe Goldschmidt is off that list. My point being that in a small sample anyone can look really bad or really good. I know Balta is tracking something over an extended period of time but if that stat has dropped so precipitously why haven't his stats had just as bad a drop ?Sure his career year probably was his 1st year but he hasn't been terrible. He think he was tested a lot his 1st year. Pitchers threw hit a lot of heat and he proved he could hit the heat. Over the years its been a series of adjustment by pitchers and Jose like its been for many years for many players Maybe the trend is again to throw him fastballs and again we will see if Jose makes an adjustment. I surely expect him to be much better the 2nd half but if he isn't its possible Balta has something here. But while I suspect Jose will make an adjustment , sooner or later time will catch up to him and although its ugly to many of us looking for clues to when a true decline starts its the nature of the business . If you want to win trades that's what you do . It's not always the knowledge that gives you the power its the correct evaluation of the knowledge that matters most. We will see but eventually someone will be right when they say he's going downhill .
  8. Why list just those 4 years ? Might as well just list his first 8 years in the league and make it 2 separate 4 year periods when Frank averaged .330 .452 .600 1.053 182 Batting average OBP SLG OPS and OPS+
  9. Leury Garcia provided the key hit in the fourth, lining a double to right field to make it 1-0. Garcia is 8-for-17 since coming off the disabled list on June 22. per whitesox.com
  10. "It's a designed play. I actually called the play myself," Shields said. "Knowing that, I know I have to make sure I step off and fake to first and throw to third. I'm pretty sure, I'm very confident, that I did that, and I went back and looked at the video, and I clearly stepped off. per whitesox, com
  11. MLBN (well Ryan Dempster) was totally convinced that was a play Shields had been working on. If you step behind the rubber that makes you an infielder and you can do more or less anything after that . Question is ,and has been, was he behind the rubber ? I saw no definitive proof that he wasn't. One fly in the ointment if it was a designed play ( a really smart thing actually) , why did he chose the totally wrong time to use it ? Sure there was a guy on 3rd but there was a shift on and Yolmer was nowhere close to the base.
  12. The Angels even more so . They are really hurting literally for some pitching. Starter and in the pen.
  13. Pressley made the mistake of throwing Avi too many good pitches.
  14. Chuck = Yeager and Norris, Charlie = Brown. Chuck it is !
  15. I thought someone pissed in your Cherrios to start the game. I now think u smoked a fatty and are much cheerier.
  16. Ok Shields big inning . You got a lead, no walks ,no HR's.
  17. Avi really needs to know they are just going to keep throwing him shit until he lays off it.
  18. Spencer Adams getting roughed up
  19. As much as I love 80's new wave when i see Damn yankees i still think of the much older musical even though I don't think I've ever seen it from beginning to end before.
  20. I decided to put this here rather than the WS Winner thread because it's more national than local. Yolmer was on the MLB Network show Intentional Talk before the game yesterday and Kevin Millar was talking to Yolmer about the IT mojo which is when a player appears on IT they usually do good in the following game and asked Yolmer to make a signal if he did something good to show the IT mojo worked. When Yolmer hit the bases loaded single to give the Sox the lead he did what Millar asked ( make an I T signal by making an I and T with his arms. You can see Yolmer did just that at the very end of this video. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/yolmer-sanchez-keys-white-sox-in-victory/c-283117430
