  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) They're based on market size, not how well you operate within your market. With 2 teams in the same market with stadiums within 15 (?) miles of each other they should cut the market size in half.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) Recap posted NOTE: That recap was written by Mary Peters, our newest writer at FutureSox. She is simply 'mpeters' on SoxTalk, Say hello! 2 women writers for Soxtalk now ? That's impressive since Lillian is really the only female Soxtalker who posts regularly.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) Don't forget... Debacle with original reaction to new stadium...upper deck, seat colors, etc. Collared jerseys/shorts/83 jerseys, which are actually kinda okay now. SportsVision Getting rid of Harry Caray Reputation of SouthSide for crime in 70's 80's early 90s White Flag trade Ligue Jr. attack on Royals' 1b coach Tom Gamboa 1994 strike largely caused by owner when Sox had one of the best teams in baseball Dunn/LaRoche/Shields historically bad seasons Veeck desperation promotions Ozzie Guillen feuding with KW and often drunk at the end, bolting for Marlins Sale knife cutting The Will to Win promotions right when the Sox start to fall apart Firing LaRussa, which also led to Leyland departing Harrelson as GM, Don Kessinger as player manager Dave Dombrowski also departing, would become HoF GM Carlos Quentin breaking his hamate bone, self inflicted Say It Aint So Joe Getting stuck behind the Yankees for so many years when there was only one pennant winner in the 50's and 60's Beckham, Viciedo, Brian Anderson, Josh Fields, Joe Borchard...and pretty much every position player drafted for the past 10-15 years not developing Tito Landrum, Jerry Dybs, etc. The crazy thing is that if you go from 1990-2006/08/10/12, we had the third best record in base in baseball behind the Braves, Yankees...depending on which years, Cards and Red Sox catch up eventually..but really only 2005 to show for it in the postseason Eh you repeated some things I already said like the unis, 1919, fan attack ( even though I said ump you're right it was the 1st base coach)and Veeck ownership though he had no money he could be attributed for the Sox remaining in Chicago if I am remembering correctly. The other stuff you mention like bad players and firing people and bad hirings I just chalk up to things that make bad teams bad but not embarrassments.
  4. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 04:46 PM) The midget by the way was when Bill Veeck owned the St. Louis Browns...not the White Sox. His name was Eddie Gaedel. Mark Thanks, knew Veeck was the owner . No wonder that popped in my head last because it wasn't the Sox.
  5. Out of the 9 innings the Twins have batted they have scored in 7 of them. Odds in Twins favor for a walk off this inning.
  6. Narvaez last inning and Polanco this inning getting the rookie treatment from the HP ump on ball and strike calls.
  7. Between Suzuki, Dozier and Buxton the Sox have had their hands full. Of course terrible pitching will do that.
  8. Hawk getting choked up from birthday message from Don Drysdale's wife , the basketball legend Ann Meyers-Drysdale.
  9. Abreu 3 run BOMB after Sano butchered a sharp Melky grounder to third.
  10. My attitude is what new ? The Sox have been the sorriest franchise in baseball history. The only team to have ever been caught throwing a World Series . All the lifetime bans from that . Disco demolition, fans attacking umpires. Cheap terrible or no money owners odd uniforms and I'm sure I'm not remembering some stuff. Oh yea a midget batting . One World Series win in forever . But I'm stuck with them and that won't ever change.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 06:52 PM) First two guys on base followed by two K's. Most White Sox thing ever. Santana making Sox hitters look like fools with men on base. Abreu K ,Frazier K, Avi BB and K , Avila K although he got aced . All the other stuff was crap .
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) It's great being optimistic but the reality of the situation suggests not to get too excited. The Sox have decent against non AL Central opponents and they were at home. The next series against the Tigers the 1st 2 pitchers will be Shields and Ranaudo. The next 21 games are all against the Tigers, Royals, Indians and Twins 11 which are on the road. Even if the Sox play close games the bullpen is pretty bad. If the Sox could somehow go 5-2 on this upcoming road trip continue being optimistic but just remember how bad the Sox have fared against the Tigers, Royals and Indian so far. The Sox have been hitting pretty good in August but I wouldn't expect that to last. They have proven over the long haul that they are not a good hitting team. There's also a chance the Sox move some guys through waiver trades which would further deplete the line up or pitching staff. The odds are too long to expect anything. Just enjoy the rest of the season as best you can. See what I mean .
  13. Didn't Salty hit a key HR late some other game against the Sox earlier this year ?
  14. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) Well see, the Dodgers are paying Puig to rot in the minors it's like the Shields deal all over again. It's a pure salary dump for the Dodgers with Puig like it was for Shields. There's no way we should give up more than someone like Avi for Puig. It's not a salary dump for the Dodgers. $17.5 million over 2 years is nothing for them and shouldn't even be much of a factor if the Sox want him.
  15. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 11:41 AM) How does the order work for who has first crack at picking him up off waivers? Is it by current record or last years record or? From what I understand, once a team picks up a player from waivers they have 10 days to work out a deal with that team, if I understand it correctly? Bottom to top teams in the same league this year then bottom to top teams in the opposite league. I wouldn't expect a Puig waiver deal. Dodgers might need him still this year. Maybe off season . Dodgers aren't desperate to be rid of him despite those reports of them trying to give him away.
  16. QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 11:21 AM) Something to be excited about... Fulmer threw 5 perfect innings for the Knights on Sunday throwing 47 strikes out of 72 pitches, and struck out 5. Maybe the Sox need to use him as a starter rather than a reliever out of the pen when he comes back to the majors. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/198...s-5-perfect-ip/ He will definitely get some starts in September unless they shut him down before that .
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 10:07 AM) So much misinformation out there on Puig, hard to know where teams really stand. I just know that I will be on record that I'd be all for him. Then again, I've said it for a while and the price I would have paid for him would have been much greater a year ago, so probably a good thing the Sox don't listen to me when it comes to Puig. I do know he is the type of lottery ticket who could be a HUGE HUGE spark plug for the team (if he can play to his tools), but he's also been the guy of declining metrics with injury issues for the past couple of seasons too. Buying low . What could be better ? Rangers bought low on Desmond and he was 29.Our dumpster dives have been veterans on the last legs of their careers. Getting Puig now after some successful seasons in MLB would be fantastic. Think of him as a 25 year old Cuban hitting the open market now . Look at what Rusney Castillo and Yasmany Tomas got ( both more than Abreu). 32 year old Yulieski Gurriel just got 5yr/ $47.5M from the Astros. Puig would only cost around $17.5M for 2 years plus and an arbitration year and whomever the Sox traded for him. That kind of bargain is right up the Sox alley.
  18. Guessing Tradewinds is closed. Didn't expect to see this thread on the main page. Not saying anything else on pitch framing .
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) If Rodon keeps going like this, and then we get something back from a guy like Miguel Gonzalez, or even Fulmer, I think it makes it easier to move Sale/Q. The Sox will feel like they have the depth to move a guy like that and get all of the offense they can trade for. This is just deja vu all over again. It's exactly the same as last year. In the last 2 months of 2015 Rodon had a 2.28 ERA. He is probably the main reason the Sox haven't burned it all down. If he finds the consistency of Sale/Q over an entire season it's huge. That's what people were expecting this year from him. If you are of the mind that the Sox need to rebuild part of the reason is we didn't get the new and improved Rodon of the last 2 months of 2015 . Now it is happening again and once again it will make it difficult to make decisions concerning 2017. Sale and Q being Sale and Q means 40% of your starters can be counted on.Add Rodon to the mix and its 60%. That might mean an extra 5 wins during the season. That would make the Sox 68-61 this year and right in the thick of things. Rodn becoming what we all think he an be is paramount to the Sox success and that means keeping Sale and Q.

  21. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 12:20 AM) I'd take Puig if they eat some of his contract. We could sign Cespedes and get the 3 Cubans together. I wonder if Puig would become less of a negative distraction in this scenario. Give them Avi Garcia for Puig with them eating some of Puig's contract. Ok Puig makes about $17.5M for 2 years. It's not all that much. Pretty doubtful the Dodgers eat any of it unless they get someone they really like for less back. Also Cespedes has already said he doesn't plan on exercising his option meaning he will stay with the Mets. That could change of course but how likely is that after he's already said he will stay with NY ? I'd be really surprised if they traded him this year. Even with reports saying he won't even be called up in September they have to know if Reddick continues to struggle or Toles ( rookie OF doing well) fades he'd have to be considered as a replacement.
