  1. Even though I'm on record as saying I didn't think anything would get done during the Winter Meetings I was starting ti change my tune after reading about the Nationals big push. So before I left for work this morning I DVR'd all the MLB networks shows like Hot Stove, MLB Now and Baseball Tonight ( basically everything except High Heat) in case something went down today. I can now watch all that stuff . I'll miss Sale, he's been great , the best Sox player since Frank Thomas and didn't care about all his hotheaded stuff because he is entitled to his opinion and wasn't shy about giving it and I truly think he liked being a White Sox. Figured Boston was the best shot at getting an elite prospect and can't get much better than Moncada even though I liked Benintendi more but I guess so did Boston. Kind of surprised at the youth of the package, Not really a near ML ready player in the group. Moncada could be a year or more away. The Sox got their headliner and it seems as though the whole deal is based on Moncada becoming what everyone thinks he will be. If he busts though the Red Sox didn't really hurt themselves at all. Hoping/ praying Moncada is what we all think he will be. Otherwise I'm not all that thrilled with the rest of the package.
  2. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 10:19 AM) I'm going to go with nothing. Me too. This. Said from the beginning the Sox M.O., when we all surely thought they would make moves, is to make outrageous demands or offers and let the market pass them by.
  3. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) Has nothing to do with being a Sox fan. They are paying Cespedes like he is one of the best in the game when he is not even close to being one of the best in the game. Not to mention the fact that he has been wildly inconsistent year to year. He will be the 3rd highest paid position player this coming year despite coming in 61st in fWAR among position players last year. Paying Yoenis Cespedes $27.5M as a 35 year old is something I would want no part of no matter whom I am a fan of. The wildly inconsistent arguments are the same kind that we heard when he Gordon and Upton were free agents and the majority fawned over Upton. The Mets are in a position, if their pitching can regain their health, to continue their string of success . Could be they just place a priority on winning rather than the bottom line. I am sorry if I offended you with my comments about the cheap seats. Just sounded like Jerry Reinsdorf was talking to me , The last year or 2 of that contract may not be pretty as you suggest but to me your position just sounds like the fiscally responsible thing to do rather than what those interested in winning do. Cespedes has outperformed both Gordon and Upton and the Mets line up has performed much better with him.Resigning him might not be the prudent thing to do but when such a move feels right to both the team and fans and the length of the contract is reasonable there are worse moves that could be made.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 07:18 AM) Don't mean to cut down the whole thread but, we really gonna use a snarky redeye article as something to feel victimized over? Who cares. Also - this is no different than what we ourselves have been saying about sox, not sure why writers should prop us up for no reason. This. Considering the Cubs just won the World Series I am actually delighted that all the Sale trade speculation is dominating the hot stove .
  5. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) This contract is the 2nd highest AAV for a position player in the history of the game. How anybody can justify that for a guy that has been roughly a 3 fWAR player for all but one year of his career is beyond me. If he is worth that than it is impossible for Mike Trout to get a fair contract. I think you've been a Sox fan for too long looking at this from the "cheap seats". This is a big boy in the big city for big bucks. The Mets have made the playoffs both years Cespedes has been there. Cespedes is a celebrity, a presence and he has done quite well with the Mets . How well it plays out is any ones guess but you know Mets fans are dancing in the streets now.
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) Yup. Way too much for both sides to lose to risk a lockout at this point. Which is precisely why there will be a lock out.

  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) If that is a sticking point in a Sale deal, we have been wasting our time speculating about the Sox trading him. A draft pick in the 20s 3 years from now isn't going to move the needle. Just saying you said the CBA wouldn't affect a Sale trade and clearly it makes him worth as I said slightly less. No on said anything about it being a sticking point neither you in your original post or me in my response to it.Draft picks are valued . It might be more important when talking about Frazier. Melky and Robertson probably don't get qualifying offers and wouldn't require a draft pick for signing them. As a GM everything little thing should matter . The more you get from a trade the better. Moving the needle as you say may not matter to you but a smart GM values it.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) Why would the CBA hold up a Sale trade? The only issue IMO is the luxury tax, and he doesn't make $30 million a year. Isn't one of the issues the elimination of draft pick compensation for unrestricted free agents ? If the Sox trade Sale or anyone else that the acquiring team has for a full season the current CBA says that teams is entitled to a draft pick when the player turns down a qualifying offer and chooses unrestricted free agency. So wouldn't this affect the trade value of Sale , Quintana, Eaton and possibly Frazier if the acquiring team doesn't get a draft pick when those player elect unrestricted free agency after spending a season or more with the teams they are traded to. Basically doesn't it make those players worth slightly less if the team acquiring them doesn't have a draft pick to look forward to when they walk ?
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) Well, substantially less than I thought he'd get. Possible backlash from teams overpaying for defense/pitch framing since it's pretty hard to keep a bad offensive player in the lineup .
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 08:04 AM) Just don't see what the Rangers could offer that bests the Astros, Dodgers, or Red Sox. I'd basically need Odor, Mazara, Gallo, & a couple of their best pitching prospects and simply don't see them moving two guys off their major league roster. Texas really blew it because they traded away a lot of talent to get Lucroy & Beltran. They could have probably built a package if they still had all those prospects. Well we have no idea what those other teams will offer or what Texas will offer or even what Hahn is looking for. If he insists on a piece from the 25 man roster to keep the Sox competitive everything changes.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 08:55 PM) Not just holding off from us, no team would reasonably make their best offer without knowing the leagues compensation structure or how much Sale would bring in as compensation in 2019. This is one I cannot blame Hahn for not getting done yet. Or you could blame him if he had anticipated the CBA would be a problem this off season when things could have changed during the previous couple years. Sales value could be affected if the buying team keeps him and he elects free agency down the road and the buying team doesn't get a draft pick in return. And that situation will affect all the other Sox trade pieces too since they would all have a full year with the buying teams. Waiting for this particular off season to make changes could end up being a huge blunder.
  13. Don't count out the Rangers also making a serious bid for Sale. Darvish will be a free agent soon and they'd like to max his last year by adding Sale and making a very serious run this year. The 2 horse race will have at least 4 teams running neck and neck down the stretch. This race has only just reached the 1/4 pole .
  14. She did right to write that with tongue planted firmly in cheek otherwise as a Sox fan you might cry.
  15. I'd like to see MLB Network stop using Phil Rogers as the Sox expert. Saw him on today as the expert after MLB Network did a quick 2016 Sox recap/what they need for 2017 and he called Omar Narvaez, Omar Nar Vase .
  16. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) I wonder if anyone has asked Rick Renteria how many games he thinks he can win with the lineup constituted as it is, and/or what areas he'd like to improve, or if it can be improved....or can it win the division. I suspect he probably looks at Cleveland and KC and says boys, blow it up. But I'd like to know. He'd probably say something cliche like " I am here to do the best job possible with the players I am given. There's no way he would say anything contrary to what Hahn has already spouted.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) They are 2-14 with Matt Barkley. He has 1 job at this point. Don't win a game. Shouldn't be a problem at all with the drug suspensions and injuries. Bears will be lucky to not get blown out every game.
  18. Just saw Hinostroza make a move around a d man that reminded me of a younger Toews. Hino got in alone but no goal. McDavid speed creating problems for the Hawks.
  19. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) God bless Todd Frazier. I agree with his assessment of the team and Sale. I hope the team signs Frazier this off season to a long term contract. When everywhere we turn there is bad news for the Sox Frazier is actually a ray of sunshine. When it seems as if no free agents want to come here, here is Todd Frazier telling the world the Sox are a team he wants to stay with . Bless his heart for being such a goodwill Ambassador for the Sox. We could use more like him.
  20. Rick, Keep up the good work my man. If I had another term I'd consider you for .. for.. , well some sort of position. Remember, nothing in life is guaranteed ( well except the name of Sox Park ( haha I crack myself up ). Hey no me being on crack jokes back from you. Did I have a point to make ? Oh yea nothing in life is guaranteed so take risks ,be brave and stand your ground. Did I already say nothing in life is guaranteed? OK I did but that goes double with the new admin . Any who looking forward to throwing out the 1st pitch on opening day in 2017. Barack Obama P.S. f*** the Cubs
  21. Sale should go to the NL because deep down the Sox don't want to see a Cubs dynasty , Dodgers or Cardinals .
  22. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 06:18 PM) I guess the way I'll feel when it happens (and now that McCann and Reddick are off the table it will) is that only the White Sox could be forced to trade a generational type talent because ownership and the front office were to stupid to put a successful team around him. Mark And ultimately too cheap. When you have studs locked up for years theoretically it should give you the payroll space to be able to do more , not sign a bunch of garbage.
  23. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 05:35 PM) Behahahahahahhaha - dude hit like 295 with an obp of 350 or something with around 20DRS and what 20 sb at a premium CF position. Yea... f*** that throw in. ???? Yea might as well improve the pitching by throwing great defense out there after we trade Sale and Q. DOH !
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 06:40 AM) I wonder if Hahn uses these kind of facts when trying to trade him. Let's also amend this to ask if Hahn uses the Bill James Handbook .
  25. *Brett Lawrie finished as the White Sox’ best baserunner with 12 bases gained, 11 of them baserunning (as opposed to stealing). The team as a whole finished -28, the sixth-worst total in baseball. also from the SSS article *The White Sox resumed shifting after a strange drop-off last season that might have contributed to the firing of Mark Parent. They doubled the amount of shifting (389 to 781), resulting in a surge in runs saved due to shifting (five to 17). *Avisail Garcia finished with the fourth-highest average with runners in scoring position. He also finished with the slowest time to second base on stolen-base attempts (3.90), tied with Alexei Ramirez. *Even with Eaton, the Sox were still below-average as a team in terms of Defensive Runs Saved. Eaton saved 25 runs in right, but those gains were erased in center field (-22) and left (-7). Shortstop (3) and pitcher (2) were the only other positions on the diamond that ended up in the plus column.
