  1. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 05:58 AM) Thing is, Robertson had an era below 2 when pitching on 0 days rest, and an era below 1 when pitching on 1.....Things started getting bad when he had over 3 days rest. He gave up 13 runs in 12 innings of work when he pitched on 4 or more days of rest. He gave up just 3 runs in 23.2 innings pitched with no rest. 4 runs in 33.2 if you add in the 1 run he allowed in 11 innings with 1 day of rest. These numbers lead me to believe that he IS a workhorse closer. I suppose you could argue that it was these innings that lead to his problems when pitching on heavy rest. I wonder if Hahn uses these kind of facts when trying to trade him.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) George Ofman16 mins · TwitterHearing Whitesox attempt to trade David Robertson not going very well. Plenty of time, though. Well ,duh, if it was going well he'd be gone already.
  3. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 13, 2016 -> 12:30 AM) Here's my off-season plan (full rebuild) for our beloved ChiSox: Trades: Chris Sale and Nate Jones to the Boston Red Sox for OF Andrew Benintendi, RHP Eduardo Rodriguez, 3B Rafael Devers, 1B Sam Travis, OF Luis Alexander Basabe and C Christian Vazquez. FINALLY! The blockbuster deal we've all been waiting for. Red Sox get their ace and power arm they're looking for in their pen. DD caves and gives up the farm in this deal. Jose Quintana to the Washington Nationals for RHP Lucas Giolito, RHP Erick Fedde, and OF Andrew Stevenson. The Sox get Giolito after the Nats can't close the Sale deal and get the Sox second ace to help their quest in another postseason run at a World Series which is why they give up the prized young future star in Giolito. Jose Abreu to the Houston Astros for RHP Francis Martes, OF Kyle Tucker, RHP Albert Abreu. The Astros get the 1B they need to infuse their lineup. They're interested in Miggy as well but Abreu is younger and cheaper. Todd Frazier to the New York Mets for 1B Dominic Smith and RHP Justin Dunn. With David Wright's health uncertainty, the Mets acquire a power hitting 3B they need. David Robertson to the New York Yankees for RHP Domingo Acevedo and C Luis Torrens. Robertson is sent back to the Bronx to give them a familiar, cheaper alternative to Chapman and Jansen. Melky Cabrera to the Arizona Diamondbacks for 2B Domingo Leyba, SS Jack Reinheimer and C Ryan January. Sox get a nice return for Melky from a DBacks team that needs a LF. Adam Eaton to the Los Angeles Dodgers for 1B Cody Bellinger, RHP Jose De Leon, and OF Yasiel Puig. The Sox land 2 great young prospects and a change of scenery OFer with tremendous potential. Rotation: Pen: Shields RHP Putnam RHP Rodon LHP Petricka RHP Gonzalez RHP Jennings LHP Fulmer RHP Ynoa RHP Rodriguez LHP Hochevar RHP Storen RHP CP-Burdi LF-Yasiel Puig CF-Charlie Tilson RF-Rymer Liriano 3B-Matt Davidson SS-Tim Anderson 2B-Tyler Saladino 1B-James Loney DH-Justin Morneau C-Wilson Ramos/Christian Vazquez Bench: 4th OF, utility IF-Carlos Sanchez, Backup C-Christian Vazquez FA signings: P Drew Storen 1yr $7 million. Sox try to fix Storen as the set-up man for Burdi. P Luke Hochevar 1 yr $4 million. Depth to the bullpen. C Wilson Ramos 1yr $9 million. Sox take a worth while gamble on Ramos who likely won't return till April or May at the earliest. DH Justin Morneau 1yr $5 million. Sox bring back Morneau to fill the DH spot. 1B James Loney 1yr $5 million. Sox sign Loney to fill 1B void. Lineup: 1. Tilson CF 2. Saladino 2B 3. Puig LF 4. Morneau DH 5. Davidson 3B 6. Anderson SS 7. Loney 1B 8. Vazquez C 9. Liriano RF Rick Hahn and the scouting department help replenish the Sox farm into the best in baseball by adding 18 prospects. It'll be a rough few of seasons but he Sox will be competing for real this time when they're ready. The Sox wipe the slate clean of all the veterans and begin the rebuilding process. Sox make some FA moves to fill the roster out in a rebuilding season and in hopes some of them bounce back and are able to flip them at the deadline. Flame away boys! I like the effort you put into it too much to knock any of the trades. However you did trade for Benintendi but he's not a starter in the OF ? He's arguably the best piece you got from the trades and ML ready.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) Lawrie to Angels for mid-level prospect is my guess You get points for the Lawrie guess but only partial points if it isn't a trade.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) He DMed me on twitter. I asked: Do you think White Sox wait awhile to make first trade. Merkin said: I think there will be smaller trades soon(ish). He didn't elaborate further. Whatever is going on with Lawrie, Merkin may have been right.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 12, 2016 -> 04:25 AM) Let's hope Detroit apparently tearing down doesn't cause KW to reconsider the organization's approach this offseason....Verlander to LA makes sense as well because of career opportunities for Kate Upton out there. VMart might be the perfect DH to replace Ortiz. CBA needs to get done. Once it's done more free agents sign with the rich teams who need to worry about luxury tax thresholds.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 03:14 PM) Are any of those good prospects? Seems like Kendrick would be a decent bet for a bounce back yeard and he'd have some value at the deadline (more so then what the Dodgers got). Didn't you just violate your own directive that there be no discussion in this thread ? I am so confused.
  8. Without Diamond Club , I think others are reluctant to start new threads for other teams signings but wasn't that what was instructed by Jason to do ? Any way Toronto has been busy since they also signed the younger Gurriel brother. Phillies also got Hendricks from the Dodgers.
  9. If, indeed the rebuild is on it's way, who would you like to see traded first ? I'd like to see Nate Jones be the 1st guy traded just to take advantage of the hot relief market and get an idea of how much a high end reliever with years of control fetches on the open market. If the Sox could net 2/3 decent prospects for Jones I'd be encouraged that the rest of the rebuild is in good hands. Just as a side note expect the trend from last years draft to continue in any trade. I think the Sox concentrate on getting good OBP guys for the position players and of course more pitching.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) Ideally, trade Sale and Q to Boston and New York. It's actually scary how well the Sox match up with Boston. Even though Dombrowski downplayed their need for starting pitching he did say they need a DH and relief help. That's Abreu and Jones. See if you could get a decent haul for those 2 before you give up Sale. Ideally I'd rather see Sale go to the NL. Now say the Yankees offer a package for Sale I often wonder if a GM could get a better deal if they throw in a promise not to trade Q to Boston or other AL East teams.
  11. QUOTE (beautox @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 08:47 PM) Hahn wanted Betts ++ Hahn better realize now he'd be lucky to get Benintendi. He's not going to get Betts or JBJ. He's trying to burn the candle at both ends, re tool the farm and improve the ML club. That ain't gonna fly.
  12. What a great game. Great comeback by the Tribe. Ill timed rain delay . Mother nature not cooperating at all.
  13. I don't have to deal with all things Cubs here in California but I am as diehard as I have ever been about the Sox. Maybe that's because my kids are grown ,I'm divorced and can spend as much time as I want watching the Sox on DirecTV. I try to let all the negative stuff ( and there has been a ton of it since Hahn was named GM)just roll off my back. Of course I will comment on it here on Soxtalk but I don't dwell on it. For the most part I concentrate on the players and how they perform and try to see the upside in every young player. So for those who say Saladino. Avi, and Sanchez can't hit I choose the side that sees them succeeding as Major Leaguers. Despite all the negative I remain optimistic as if it's spring training all season . Without hope there is no point in fandom. Edit : Oh yeah one more thing. GO TRIBE !
  14. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) Other than a couple minutes at the start of the 3rd, nice game for the Hawks. Nice to see the Kane/Panarin/Anisimov line come alive. Hawks got real sloppy after the 4-0 lead. It was like "hey lets throw a lot of passes up the middle in our own end and see how many get picked off." Congrats Hoss !
  15. Go Dodgers ! Such a dilemma . Root for Dodgers and Urias ( who is a possible trade candidate for Sale) or root for some 4 -4 game in the 4th inning where both starting pitchers both exit early ? I honestly think the Cubs will get that WS win eventually but a delay in the dynasty and watching them lose 2 years in a row in the playoffs might quiet some of the hysterical hype.
  16. Goal scoring results after 3 games Richard Panik 4 goals , the rest of the team has 5 . Toews ,Kane, Panarin 0
  17. The rematch is going the Hawks way so far up 3-1 after the 1st period. Goals by Schmaltz, Seabrook and Panik. Darling in goal. Nashville goal came after Kempny made a poor decision that resulted in a 3 on 1 where Preds got the rebound and the goal. The goal by Schmaltz and Seabrook were both deflected by Nashville so Hawks getting some good luck but that happens when you are aggressive. Hawks outshot in the 1st. Darling definitely playing well.
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) I know it's inconvenient for you to accept it, but as long as Jerry Reinsdorf remains owner and continues to preside over the culture of losing he's instilled in the team and the organization, ongoing observations critical of him and his record remain relevant. I don't think you should get as much crap as you do around here. I'm usually pretty level headed but Reinsdorf's record pretty much speaks for itself. Never does too much to really ensure success , always does just enough to get hopes up but doesn't finish the job. Free agent signings usually guys not quite good enough to make an impact with Albert Belle being the lone exception.
  19. I hate Subban. 3rd period he either slashed or tripped then rouged Toews then roughed up Kane got the penalty but so did Kane for embellishment. NHL (refs) need to do more to protect the name players.
  20. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) They are really, really thin up front. I think the back end should be a strength for this team, the Campbell addition should make a big impact, but goals may be hard to come by. Kane needs to have a repeat season, Toews needs to step it up, Hossa needs to find that fountain of youth and Panarin needs to build off of his rookie season. That seems like it's asking a alot. Panarin and Kane better have their heads on a swivel. Either one has a major injury and Hawks might not make the playoffs. It's really difficult to have a 3rd line center without a scoring touch.
  21. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) I know he had some bad luck, but a lot of his poor performance was definitely on him and not luck, due to the stats I cited. As you said, BABIP is also low due to his HR%. BABIP is known to penalize big time HR hitters since a HR is technically not "in play"- Mark Trumbo's, for example was .278. Weird how a HR isn't a ball in play . Any ball hit between the foul poles should be considered in play. HR hitters shouldn't be penalized for what's considered the best struck ball you can hit. Might not be the hardest hit but distance counts in this game whether or not it's hit like a rocket.
  22. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Oct 8, 2016 -> 12:37 AM) Mid level SP's wouldn't move the needle for them though. They need top flight starters like Sale that can get them big wins in a short postseason series. With Fernandez's passing I don't believe any aces will be on the market besides Sale. No aces in FA either. If Hahn is patient and holds firm he can clean out their system (Moncada, Benintendi, Kopech, Devers). The Red Sox will lose all the leverage they thought they had - it's make this deal or they will keep coming up short the next 2-3 years. They already tried making the patchwork fixes to their pitching staff this year and it's not working. The Red Sox and White Sox are too good of a match for this deal not to happen. Especially if the Indians sweep them on Sunday. I like how hopeful you are but Boston isn't going to trade those 4 for Sale . Feel free to save what I said and I'd gladly be proven wrong.
  23. Mr. Odor just got a lesson in karma. What goes around comes around.
  24. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) There are so many faults in pitch framing stats that I put little value in them. There is just no way to accurately measure how well a catcher is framing pitches in comparison to another when they are catching two different pitching staffs and with different umpires behind the plate. The eye test certainly says the Sox were not good in that department this year with Navarro being worse than Avila but even the best framing catchers versus the worst is only maybe 3-4 pitches per game. Boy am I glad to see some support for pitch framing being something that people act like is so damn important when it's not and most fans have no idea what to look for with it. All the talk about computer umps for balls and strikea should tell you all you need to know about pitch framing. With what it says here. http://www.geekwire.com/2016/hbo-throws-st...pare-computers/ Umps are only accurate on balls and strikes 88 percent of the time which means 30,000 mistakes per year. Of course pitch framing advocates will say that just proves how important framing is. Anyway interesting article based on the Real Sports with Bryan Gumbel segment.
