Fun Note: I put this in another thread but I'll repeat it. Sale is the only lefty to start May 6-0 since Randy Johnson in 2002 when he went 24-5 and won his last Cy Young at the age of 38.
-
I will say that it's good the Eaton's defense is being lauded . All off season I was saying to have great starting pitching without a good defense is a total waste and it had to be improved drastically .I remember Jason (Chisoxfn) saying this as well and excuse me if I can't remember anyone else saying how important defense is. Frazier's defense has been pretty good too and it's been so nice to have a guy like him in the middle of the lineup hitting home runs and driving in big runs.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 2, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) Eaton is a big reason why the pitching has looked great. See I can't really go with that kind of argument. Sure the overall defense has been much better and Eaton has been the best part of it but it is just one position on the field. Not everything is hit to him. I'm actually kind of shocked at the answers so far. I mean, yes, lots of names to choose from but I thought Sale would be an easy choice .

QUOTE (aryzner @ May 2, 2016 -> 06:25 PM) The American League in general is not easy, in my opinion. The NL is outscoring the AL so far this year but I think that's because the good teams are fattening up on the dregs. The Sox won't be playing very many bottom feeders like the Braves , Brewers, Padres and Reds unless Houston and the Twinkies keep playing so much different than they did last year.

I couldn't find room for Eaton in my top 5. His OBP is good but 3rd on the team and as good as his defense has been its just not enough because of the great pitching the team has got and the better power stats of Lawrie and Frazier.
-
That is great. And I'd like to just throw this out there that Sale is the first lefty since Randy Johnson in 2002 to complete April with a 6-0 record. Johnson went 24-5 in 2002 at the age of 38 and won the last of his 5 Cy Young Awards.
-
With a great April behind the Sox give me your top 3 in terms of most valuable player for the Sox for the month. Thankfully there are quite a few players to choose from. Sale, Quintana and Latos all had a great month. In the bullpen Robertson, Albers and Nate Jones have been lights out. Among position players Frazier has played good defense and leads the team in HR and RBI and has brought a winning attitude. Eaton has hit fairly well and played great defense in RF, Brett Lawrie finished the month strong at the plate and leads the team in OPS , SLG.,and tied for the lead in walks. It's really difficult to pick just 3 so feel free to throw in an honorable mention or 2 . My Choices: 1. Chris Sale 2. Jose Quintana 3. Brett Lawrie Honorable mention Latos and Frazier Sorry bullpen you deserve a lot of recognition but no room.

Lawrie is the 1st Sox 2nd baseman to homer in 3 straight games since Ray Durham in 2001.

QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) My boss got Sox season tickets. He is offering me five tickets to which ever game i want to see. Any suggestions? I am thinking the royals in june or the cubs in july. The Cub series will be epic. Imagine both teams still in 1st place. Plus do you want the park filled up with Cubs fans and getting more support than the Sox ? If you aren't bringing any little kids to the game I'd definitely go with the Cubs games and bring Sox fans with you.

WOW ! Imagine if this was an ALCS game. -
Hawk is bad luck ! (green) It's been apparent since we got to Baltimore that evil voodoo has hit the Sox. Smith injured, Robertson's bereavement, Webb injured, Avi tweaks a hammy, defensive wheels fall off when Lawrie makes an error and Rollins trips over an invisible foot. All you practitioners of dark arts need to put a spell on the Orioles to counteract this hoodoo that has befallen us. All you believers in Jobu must forget about Benetti and Hawk and concern yourselves with the crisis at hand. Time is of the essence if Latos and Sale are to prevail.

Looks like Rollins got a late jump due to the line drive. But what's with all this sliding to avoid the catcher and hitting the base with your hand ? As the runner you have more of a right to the plate than the catcher. If the plate is even partially blocked you are allowed contact with the catcher. If I was Rollins there I side right into the feet of Weiters and take his legs out from under him. And yay Lawrie !! -
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) ZIPS says our chances to win the World Series is basically the same as the Mets. I'd take it. There are still some sports books in Vegas listing the odds of the Sox winning the World Series at 50:1 .

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 08:42 PM) Sox team ERA after 22 games is the lowest since the "Near Miss" 1967 White Sox who had the World Series dead in their sights against the Cardinals until that final week when they played the Kansas City A's and Washington Senators. Mark Isn't that the team that had Ken Berry and Tommy Crawford lead the Sox in batting average with .247 ? -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 05:55 AM) Watch the guys on the mound congratulate Putnam when he was being yanked. The team never had that vocal Atticus previously. Have you seen the Albers replay after he got to the dugout after making the play on the bunt ? It was on the Toronto feed and is in the Albers thread. It's great . -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 08:08 PM) Albers is the quickest fat guy since Robert "Tractor" Trailer. Hey, if you can't be svelte, at least be quick and good at hurling a baseball. Jose has the best smiles when he does something a bit athletic. Glad to see the big man part of a winning club he'll come around soon. I'm not sure Lawrie makes that play without a barehand peg and throw on that chopper that ended it. Certainly would have been bang bang. I'll take the automatic out. If you watch the replay of the tricky hop that made the ball hit Tulo you'll see Lawrie reaching way over to the left with his glove. I'm pretty sure that's from the weird hop rather than where the ball deflected to after it hit Tulo. Would've been very close at 1st. That " grounder " as it was described in the game thread was actually a ball that bounced very high on the turf with a lot of spin which was why it took the nutty hop. So he wasn't going to make a barehanded play when the ball was headed to his left because of the hop. Saunders being left handed was already pretty far down the line when it hit Tulo. Edit: I saw a later post from you that agrees with what I wrote here so never mind .Well you actually agreed with the how close the play wouldve been from the start, My point was I didn't think it would be a barehand play. -

I liked that inning. If Sox can do it so can the Hawks.
