  1. Bonifacio has 2 errors today playing second base but the 1 run the Reds have is earned.
  2. Beckham gets his 2nd ht of the spring, doubling to bring home Wilkins who was on 2nd base after a walk and balk.
  3. Sox just went ahead in the 4th. Bonifacio and Avi walked , Alexei brought them both home with a double. Up until that point Jason Marquis had been perfect through 3 .
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 18, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) Right now, hard to say, but I think he'd be on par overall (just better at some things, worse at others). This 30 PA in Arizona are really only a small part of the evaluation for me, and the stats are not even a major part of that, as I detailed in the article. That too. Though he still really only has a short time in AAA, which is a concern. I think the time is now for Micah without extra seasoning in the minors. As you said he's got options to burn and he brings the most to the table of any of his competitors. Certainly a case can be made for Sanchez but he is almost 2 years younger and Micah seems very mature and ready for the challenge that lies ahead. It wouldn't hurt Sanchez to spend another year in the minors . Micah's speed will only play for so long as that mid twenty something age turns to 30 quickly . If his speed is going to play I'd rather it be sooner than later. BTW it's caveat emptor not umptor .
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) Dare I say... A Grinder? Grinder sometimes has a negative connotation like "not much talent but a lot of heart." So no don't you dare say grinder. I like future All-Star
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 17, 2015 -> 12:07 PM) 100% agree, which is my beef with Beckham. I'm fine with him as a reserve infielder, but I'd rather have used the money on a legit 4th OF that could also fill in for LaRoche against tough LHP and settled for Sanchez or Saladino in Gordon's role. I love Bonafacio as a pure utility guy, who provides value through his speed and versatility that WAR can't fully account for, but I'm terrified of him being an everyday OF if someone goes down. Our lack of OF depth is our biggest risk on the position player side IMO. I'm still holding out hope that the teams with surplus OF's like the Red Sox and Padres look to move one of them and the Sox bite. Not likely considering what the Sox are paying Bonifacio and Beckham but ya never know.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) Jose Quintana was a 3.7 WAR pitcher in 2013 and a 5.3 WAR pitcher in 2014. The breakout already happened. Exactly. How much better can he get than that 5.3 ? I'd be real happy with that for the next 6 years.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 12:19 PM) Who here loves Saunders? I chatted him up pretty good before we got Melky and LaRoche ( I think) when it was rumored Seattle would more than likely be moving him. I ,too, thought if he could stay injury free he was the right age for a breakout plus we needed a lefty bat at the time . I remember other posters echoing that sentiment.
  9. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) But so is Quintana -- they both pitched yesterday. My take -- the Sox will go with Quintana. He's been an exemplary citizen and performer for a few years now. National recognition means nothing -- everyone who knows baseball knows that Quintana and Samardzija are in the same general tier of pitcher. This is where having a respected ex-player like Robin comes into play. He knows when it's six of one, a half-dozen of the other (in terms of quality), the locker room benefits by going with the guy with seniority. And my read on the blue-collar, union guy JS is that he'd actually respect that decision MORE than going with the new kid on the block (and maybe that's another tipping factor in the re-signing decision). My thoughts exactly . One thing you didn't mention if Samardzija pitches the opener then it goes R-L-L-R if Quintana opens then its L-R-L-R. But what you said is why I said Q will start the opener.
  10. Jose will be the opening day starter. Despite all the talk from Brian Kenney on MLB Network about wins not meaning anything ,the fact that the Sox have sucked and Jose is the King of the No Decision , wins are precisely why he is basically still unknown to many fans. I thought last year was a sort of break out season for him though in reality it was just part of his continued improvement from year to year. That FIP will be hard to top as will the low HR total . Jose will be a little more famous when the Sox win more, Jose gets more wins, and maybe if he gets the ERA under 3. Funny how wins and ERA are still the driving forces behind a pitcher getting the recognition he deserves.
  11. Dang I was going to pick LaRoche for the HR contest but unfortunately they don't put it up the night before and was working today. . Exciting seeing Hawkins hit. Small sample size but a good year and suddenly he might be a top 100 prospect. That would be killer .
  12. That lifetime .402 OBP is phenomenal . Thome chatted it up pretty good .
  13. Keon Barnum playing 1st base now, Thompson in LF, Jacob May in CF , Anderson at SS.
  14. I don't care if it is Spring training.. 6 hits in a row is impressive.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) Best scenario, Sanchez in the minors....Johnson proves himself, Bonifacio backs up everywhere/PR and Beckham is platoon 3B and occasionally at 2B (Bonifacio should get most of his ab's here and in the OF) and 3-5 games at SS, at MOST, for Gordo. Oops I forgot there is a thread about who's on second
  16. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) I am definitely up for the challegene. We just need the players that are committed to playing the game I always think I am committed to playing pick to click but I end up not playing it Take a look at those PTC threads you'll probably get a good idea how many people actually play consistently. And the prize would certainly be more motivating even if its just a bobblehead or 2 . Maybe something current picked up during game promotions.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) Must have read the writing on the wall. That's a good Ted Nugent song. Written by Meatloaf who wrote a few songs for Ted and also sang a song called Together on the same album as Writing on the Wall. ( Free For All , my personal fav of Nugent.)
  18. Better get all your arguments in fast . This is headed for the archives Still don't understand the most recent Sox news getting dumped in the archives so fast . But whatever .
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) This is all I will say on this topic I'm done with it as I'm sick of being misrepresented and called a hater. I will put my money where my mouth is and bet a Micah B-Ref scholarship for anyone that will take me up on this bet. You can pick. Either you take the over on a 730 OPS (min 400 PA) or 1.5 fWAR. I lose I will gladly buy the sponsorship, link to your page with whatever message you want. I win, you do the same. Ha I understand where you are coming from and frankly it's quite understandable . I disagree but just because Sanchez has 2 years at AAA doesn't mean he's the better option .He's a couple years younger than Micah and he can afford to wait. Micah might have proved he's ready if it wasn't for the hamstring issue. I think the Sox are better off with another potentially dynamic player in a good lineup than going the safe route. Sanchez is just another step closer to Beckham in the food chain and who wants that ? Neither player has proved anything but the Sox can afford to not play it safe. If Micah flops then he can be sent to AAA. But if he succeeds watch out ! Can you say that about Sanchez ?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) Wait we are taking one small incident and turning it a maturity problem? Come on man. No a series of observations from other posters about how Micah acts on the field ( of which I have none because I haven't seen it ). Read the thread man
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 05:41 PM) I don't know, I am definitely not a part of the political correctness police, but I wouldn't disseminate my views that could be be perceived as ignorant/offensive to sects of people including and not limited to women, homosexuals and Native Americans. If LoMo was making all of these comments on a forum and was a regular Joe like one of us I wouldn't raise an eyebrow but he's representing an organization and himself as a professional. His reputation is tainted by his immaturity and silly comments and now we are supposed to use his words as the basis of whether Johnson should start in AAA or in the MLB? Maybe if Morrison shut up for once he wouldn't have had so many growing pains. I don't know how much you know about Morrison but here's some insight on him: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_leagu...urn=mlb-wp15874 Regardless, in most cases, using one piece of testimonial evidence for the justification of a broader point just isn't sound rhetoric in my opinion. Just sayin' if a fireman was racist sexist and homophobic would you not listen to him if he told you how to put out a fire ?
