  1. First, disappointment that Hahn didn't sign another piece and now this. Already setting up scapegoats for the upcoming season when it goes bad. Despite what we all think we know about baseball even scouts can't tell who will be good and who will be bad most of the time. So yes I like Avi because he's strong young and fast and tore up AAA. He's got flaws like every player so can I just look forward to the optimism of spring without all this negative Sox fan crappola ? I know optimism is kind of equated with blind faith and surely anyone smarter will dig deeper and find reasons anyone can fail. So optimism equals idiocy and negativity equals brainiac .I will now take my happy pills and imagine every young Sox player has a chance to be very helpful to the team.
  2. That's like asking if I could go to heaven but still be an asshole would I ? Duh ! But Danks isn't going anywhere .
  3. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) With Ken Rosenthal reporting "Some execs now believe (James Shields) is headed for a four-year deal, perhaps in the $70 million-$80 million range" I think the White Sox need to look into him. Shields would provide a post 2015 rotation guarantee that would be needed if Samardzija leaves. Shields has been linked to the Tigers according to recent reports.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) Why is this guy ranking baseball players anyway? Nice TMNT reference.
  5. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 06:45 AM) I'm really enjoying the homer site, thanks... I think Robertson should make the top ten With a lot of us impatient for the season to start just figured watching bombs is always fun and semi satisfies the craving for baseball. You're welcome.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 17, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) I watched those episodes. I predict Robertson to be unranked, Melky to be #6, Sale at either #3 or #4 (they might put Kluber ahead of him), and Abreu at #2. This isn't necessarily what I think is right, but I have a feeling this is what The Shredder will say. I'm pretty sure Robertson made the Shredders list last year and don't think he did anything in 2014 to be off of that list unless more relievers just stepped up.
  7. So far all they've done is CF and SS . Eaton came in at 7th and Alexei 8th for their respective positions at least according to the Shredder . Who else do you all think from the Sox will make the Top 10 ? Abreu and Sale for sure though there are so many starting pitchers top 10 seems like too few otherwise Quintana and Samardzija might have a shot if it went to the Top 20. Melky has a good shot to make the list in LF and Robertson as a reliever . That should be about it . Catcher should be interesting because the position is so thin. I'm hoping Avi can make it next year. It's interesting to note that Avi hit the longest HR for a Sox player in 2014 an estimated 468 foot shot at the Trop against the Rays Sept 21st when he hit 2 . The distance I got was from the MLB network top 50 longest HR's of 2014 of which Avi's was #9 for the year. Avi's other one from that day was 442 feet ! MLB network gets their distances from ESPN Stats & Information Group. http://www.hittrackeronline.com/top_true_distance.php Not sure but I think every HR hit is listed there with an accompanying video if anyone is interested in watching bombs from last year.
  8. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jan 17, 2015 -> 07:23 AM) The White Sox have definitely improved the team this off season. But still, the bottom of the rotation with Noesi and Danks scares me to death. I try to point out the positive. I'm not the second coming of Jay "Woman Beater" Mariotti. I don't see the 2015 White Sox making the playoffs unless they acquire another decent starting pitcher. Maybe Noesi and Danks will have a good 2015 season. I hope so but I'm not counting on it. There's an underated Sox blog called the Catbird seat (also on twitter) that offered views on the rotational depth citing their concerns but the last opinion offered seems to think it's not as bad as others think http://www.thecatbirdseatblog.com/blog/201...otation-problem . He used playoff teams from last year as examples on how the Sox pitching depth " is not ill equipped to enter a season representing a playoff hopeful team."
  9. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 05:09 PM) Come on, this deserved a nod and wink. Nice work. Hmm, 100 RBIs or some of the ladies he "dated"? Brian Anderson will be traded to another team that never specified that it was Tim Anderson they wanted. Sox win World Series . Hahn Exec. of the Year. Brian Anderson having served his purpose now officially retires and is given lifetime season tickets in a skybox.
  10. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 12:51 PM) That's a lot total of strikeouts for throwing 4 pitches, and one of them can top 100 MPH. Maybe you meant it's NOT a lot of K's ?? 28 in 49 innings is nothing for a guy with that repertoire and fastball. So it seems odd to me.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 10, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) I hope this turnout ends up being somewhat correlative to park attendance this season. I think they will draw 2-2.3M this year possibly 2.5 if we are at or very near the top of the division all year.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 10, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) there are some interesting pitchers, and players that are being release or DFA that i would mind the sox to kick the tires so to speak. Some of these teams are overloaded in the OF like Boston, Padres and maybe the Dodgers, a lot will be sorted out when the cuts start in ST. Sox may wait until then to find an OF they really want to be on the bench , just as other teams will wait for Hahn to cut Viciedo and he'll end up with a minor league contract.
  13. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 05:59 AM) Well said kind sir. You are truly a gentleman and scholar. Thanks, StR LOL . That is the motto of the University of Cambridge . The 2nd oldest University in the english speaking world , behind only Oxford. It's latin and it basically means "From this place, we gain enlightenment and precious knowledge ." My attempt at humor that no one would understand unless they put some effort into it ,since you said "we have a few English scholars that have clearly studied at Oxford".
  14. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 05:27 AM) Well, apparently we have a few English scholars that have clearly studied at Oxford so what does wiki know? From now on all posters must speak in proper queens English, mkaay! Thanks Sox talk, thanks Hi8is, thanks CaliSoxFanViaSWSide, thanks StR. Hinc lucem et pocula sacra. Tahnk tibi StRoostifer, tahnk tibi Hi8is.
  15. QUOTE (lvjeremylv @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 07:11 PM) Does 3 sentences constitute a proper paragraph? From Wiki: A common English usage misconception is that a paragraph has three to five sentences; single-word paragraphs can be seen in some professional writing, and journalists often use single-sentence paragraphs.
  16. QUOTE (skobabe8 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 05:08 AM) Thanks! I've been a member of another Sox site but looking for something new. Happy to be here! There aren't very many besides this and Whitesoxinteractive.com and from what I understand it's extraordinarily restrictive at WSI.
  17. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) There's always some kind of announcement at SoxFest. Samardzija extended? Keep dreaming. KW likes it.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 10, 2015 -> 02:56 AM) Rudyard? Rios was a waiver claim. The Blue Jays were the ones to give him that money. He performed well in 2010 and 2012. Alzheimers is so sad.
  19. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 10:17 PM) I plan on making a lot of bets with Cubs fans on this. I think the Sox are 10-15 games better than the Cubs, but their hype is so massive right now, I'd bet I can even get a lot of non-Cubs fans to take me up on this. Just make it like a $5 per game bet. If the Sox finish 10 games better than the Cubs you win $50.
  20. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) Chicago White Sox 1 hr · White Sox have announced an expanded list of current and former players scheduled to appear at SoxFest 2015, including: White Sox pitchers John Danks, Zach Duke, Dan Jennings, David Robertson and Jeff Samardzija; White Sox prospects Tim Anderson, Courtney Hawkins, Micah Johnson and Carlos Rodon; White Sox greats Bo Jackson, Ron Kittle, Carlos May, Bill Melton, Minnie Minoso and Billy Pierce; and assistant hitting coach Harold Baines. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/105...at-soxfest-2015 Not sure if they've brought out that many prospects in the past, but that's the past 3 first round picks, and the guy they pegged as the 2B of the future. I have a feeling Micah would be on the opening day roster if he could just have a solid but not spectacular Spring Training. If Micah could be a productive major league player he'll be a fan favorite in Chicago with his looks. If he's an All Star the national media will love him. I posted a video of an interview with him in the hitters mini camp thread.
  21. This video is a 2015 season preview for the Sox which should get everybody even more pumped up about the upcoming season. It features offensive, defensive and pitching highlights of LaRoche, Melky, Samardzija, Robertson and Duke. Same for Sale, Abreu, Alexei, Quintana, Eaton, Conor, Flowers, Avisail and the drafting of Carlos Rodon. The music is louder than Hawk on the highlights and other video footage but some of you may prefer that. It's 20 minutes long but a fun watch.
  22. Micah Johnson interview from hitters mini camp. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...15&start=15 Todd Steverson also http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...15&start=15 Tim Anderson at BP.
  23. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 04:39 PM) It's certainly not hurting that Rick Hahn has gone all YOLO this offseason. You only Leury once ?
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 06:20 AM) I was thinking the same thing. I had seen absolutely zero connection between the Sox and Bonifacio outside of people here wanting to sign him. .959 OPS vs LHP in 2014, .721 for career. Even if he is closer to his career numbers than 2014 numbers, he's a solid platoon for Gillaspie at 3B. Appears to be decent defensively at 3B. I hope you say this tongue in cheek. If people here can see that Bonifacio was a good fit it's possible Hahn could too . He still might read Soxtalk or have some intern do it but it's not to get ideas.
