White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 04:15 AM) You should be licking your chops if you have Boston this week in a 13 run pool. Anybody still do 13 run pools? Probably not, too old school. That's from back before there was fantasy baseball and Sabre-toothed mathematicians who think how a catcher catches a pitched ball is more important in getting strikes called than the place the pitcher throws it.

The myth of Rick Hahn, Master Negotiator
I don't know what the big deal is. As a GM you win some you lose some. Hahn has lost more than he has won and by a fairly substantial margin. The bad still outweighs the good .However as many have said it starts at the top and Hahn is only a part of the problem. As awhole organization we really can't pinpoint anything the team does well that can lead to sustained success.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Nice to see 2 wins in a row and Mr. Anderson doing well.

June 19th Game Thread: ChiSox at Cleveland
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 07:44 AM) Alex Avila hitting 6th today...ugh For the last week Avila has been hitting better. What you should be saying "ugh" about is Frazier and Lawrie both hitting .181 for the last 30 games. Avi has a 9 game hitting streak and a .357 average for the last week and .278 for the last 15 games, yet he's hitting 8th.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 18, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) Everyone saw this coming. People that do other things for a living and casually pay attention to baseball saw this coming. What did Erik Johnson do to this FO and why do they believe someone's name entitles them to $9m/per while guys making 5% of that are deemed useless almost immediately. This was the straw that broke the camel's back. It's really mind boggling to me that Hahn could give up basically 3 pitchers (Danks, Latos and Erik Johnson ) for one who makes more than all of them combined for a longer commitment who has been worse than all of them. Granted none of them was setting the world on fire. But holy s*** Shields has been so, so , so, so, so bad he's making those 3 look much better. All we can do at this point is pray for a miracle that he somehow figures out some way to get better. My one word response I posted when it was just a rumor was NOOOO !

SOX WINNER!!
Anderson looking just fantastic. If Morneau can come in and hit like he has the last 2 years we might have a decent offense while Hahn tries to secure another bat and perhaps a relief pitcher. Then Rodon and Shields pitch better and Sox could look pretty strong. As much as I've supported Avi he's a huge liability in the OF and Morneau crushes righties so Avi to the bench or traded. Come Sale Away !

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 06:26 AM) Well if you can't beat Mike Pelfrey with Chris Sale then you probably don't deserve good things to happen to you Wasn't there a Pelfry /Sale matchup a week or 2 ago that Sale lost ?

Avisail Garcia
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) it's been proven, with stats, that it's not repeatable. Your attitude is like sticking your fingers in your ear and saying "2+2 isn't 4 it's 5". There is not a single data point that says "clutch" exists. Notice that I'm not claiming that "choking" doesn't exist. Just that no player has ever, ever been proven to be able to raise his game in any sort of statistically significant (I'm using this term in a very precise way in a statistical test application) way. Not a single one. For those of you who put your faith in mathematics it's all well and good. Some things cannot be measured. So you're arguing that it's possible to lower your game because of pressure but not rise to the occasion. Interesting since neither can be proven mathematically yet you believe in the negative aspect but not the positive one. Why talk about math at all if you think choking is possible then surely so does rising to the occasion. If people can crack under pressure so can they rise above it.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) Frazier off tonight, Avi in RF and Shuck at DH Did Frazier change his stance ? He seemed awful far away from the plate last night ? And if he did change his stance I would play him just to let him get AB's with his new stance. If he did change his stance what is he doing differently that I didn't notice ?

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) Being good with RISP isn't even remotely close to being a repeatable skill. Maybe it is , maybe it isn't. Some guys do better with guys on base. Concentration levels increase or whatever. Besides I am not arguing weather it's repeatable or not just that it's important. Of course stat geeks will argue that driving in runs is based solely on situation blah blah blah. But regardless it's still important to drive in runs . Can't win without scoring . The point is Avi has been valuable this year in that respect. He is making the most of the situations to score runs , better than anyone on the team. Talking about weather it's repeatable just clouds that fact. People talked about how Cespedes was inconsistent but his hitting with RISP was always good. There's something to be said for rising to the occasion. Weather or not you believe in clutch is up to you. It was easy to pick Cespedes as the best of the Big 3 FA OF's in the off season . You might think it was luck but not in my eyes.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) This is the issue with looking at stats in general. You can manipulate them any way you like to make a point. What one person thinks is important, another does not. This is the issue with WAR and many of those other overall numbers. The people who created them created it with what they though was important. So they are biased toward that line of thinking. True enough but being good with RISP would seem to be pretty important for a team that can't hit very well in general so when guys do get on base driving them in becomes even more important.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 08:44 AM) one stupid stat deserves another dude. Both 40 ABs. High leverage is a game 7th inning within one run. .How is how you hit with RISP a stupid stat ? Again . Support your case . Use some type of argument besides , "duhhh it's stupid " . So your stat has nothing to do with anything. The bases could be empty, he could be leading off the inning. . I think mine has a little more substance to it.When a team can't hit runs anytime matter just not from the 7th inning on.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) In high leverage situations as defined by baseball reference, he has an OPS of .545. That tells me nothing. Doesn't tell me how many AB's that covers or what they consider a high leverage situation . Sound bytes like yours are not informative. Try actually communicating with thought and substance.

Everyone complains about the offense and the lack of big hits or hitting with RISP. Then many complain about Avi. I have pointed this out a lot recently and will continue to do so because the AVi hate is running rampant and it just isn't warranted for his hitting if we actually bother to look at how he hits with RISP. Best on the Sox (40 AB) hitting .375 , OBP .435 , SLG .600 , OPS 1.035 . Also best on the Sox w/ RISP 2 outs. b**** all you want about his fielding but when the Sox need a hit with guys on base Avi is best on the team and anyone hoping for his release or demotion (caulfield) is letting their hate for other facets of his game cloud their judgement on his ability to come through in the clutch . He should always be in the middle of the order. I made pretty much the same points in the off season when there was a backlash against Cespedes, ( buying high, too inconsistent ) and he's the only one of those big 3 OF's who has been very good so far. Don't tell me what you hit , tell me when you hit. Hawk does have pearls of wisdom every so often. I'll take a guy who hits better with men on base every time . Frazier has been terrible in that regard.

The Truth About
There's no deception to his delivery at all and he's not moving the ball around especially not pitching inside or up in the zone. When your stuff isn't as good as it used to be you can't do things the same way. I understand you want to keep your delivery simple ( less moving parts and all that ) but it just seems too easy to time his motion. In, out, up, down , add some deception, reinvent yourself when your old self isn't what it used to be. I'd also like to know the speed on each of his pitches. Doesn't seem to be enough difference between them. Hi8is, I'm looking forward to the last part of the master plan.
