  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 10:01 PM) This year, we have Sale, Abreu, Samardzija, Alexei, Robertson, Melky, Quintana, even Eaton or LaRoche as possible all-stars. Crazy. This is the thread I went to when I signed on. I saw Melky and was like "wait what ?" and I automatically went to the topics stickied and there it was . Unreal !
  2. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 08:58 PM) Said nobody ever Conor probably misses him too.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 04:41 PM) Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi 5m5 minutes ago If #WhiteSox trade Dayan Viciedo, they will end up looking for another RH outfielder to replace him. Otherwise, their OF would be too LH. Someone make sense of this for me. What exactly is a too LH OF ? Ther'e only 3 OF positions and unless there's a switch hitter in the bunch it'll either be 2 RH's or 2 LH's. ANd there iare still some guys who bat LH but throw RH.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 06:02 PM) Rasmus also probably has an equally big potential to underperform a contract like that. Either way he's still likely to hit 20-25 HR's and play good defense and provide CF backup.
  5. 1 year deal, about $9.5M. I said $10M so just about right on.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) Guys, I like Rock too, but not everything he posts is based on inside information. He also has his own opinions. Not sure which he even meant here. Clearly the team is still looking to upgrade at least LF. C and RP are probably based on opportunities is my guess - purely a guess though. I personally think they need one more RH starter too. But RF and SP are the only high priority items left in my view. The C and RP upgrades, at this point, are just nice to haves. Thank you . This needed to be said in the worst way. Now if someone can take all of Rock's recent posts and tell me he was spot on in the Sox acquisitions then keep jumping on his bandwagon. No disrespect meant.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) For all the hype that the Samardzija trade received, I really feel like Robertson will have the biggest actual impact on the team. I know we've talked about the blown saves from last year, but it really seems like there were a significant number of 2 and 3 run leads blown from the 8th inning on. Hopefully Robertson can turn those blown games into wins. The Sox bullpen last year was so bad in a lot of different categories.I don't know where to find bullpen stats but I know they had were worse or near worst in walks allowed , K's and other categories I can't pinpoint .If the new pen can have success in defined roles there should be a big improvement.
  8. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 04:05 PM) Heaney is a stud and Haren won't even play for them. Not a good move by the Fish If Haren retires wouldn't the trade be voided ?
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:13 PM) Bassitt is coming off a strong AFL, so we're selling him at peak value IMO. Peak value very early in his career . Could end up being his overall peak value or his upper basement if he hs a good MLB career.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:21 PM) Gordon Beckham to back up Johnson at 2nd and Conor at 3b Hey I said that already in another thread Greg commented right after telling me that ship had sailed .
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:48 PM) Great work Dan Hayes It really was. He knows his subject matter very well and sooner or later you get comfortable talking about what you know well. He outshined Phil Rogers but that isn't that hard.
  12. MLB Network which was alreading showing earlier run programming had to jump back on the air to report all this new Sox news and had a lengthy conversation with Phil Rogers .
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 11:58 PM) To futhur illustrate my point about more talent in the position players , the Sox hitters had a cumulative 15.5 WAR. Our top players were: Abreu 5.5 Eaton 5.2 Alexei 3.0 Flowers 2.3 Gillaspie 1.5 Beckham 0.6 Semien 0.5 Sierra 0.5 Others below 0.5 but still in positive territoy were Dunn, DeAza and Phegley. The Sox had 8 players either mostly in bench roles or injured for most of the season (Garcia) who either didn't provide enough hitting to offset their bad fielding or enough good fielding to offset their bad hitting or were bad at both. You'll also notice 4 players in postive WAR are no longer with the team (Beckham, DeAza, Dunn and Sierra ). Melky Cabrera had a 3.1 ,Brock Holt a 2.1, Michael Saunders 2.4 playing half a season . Rasmus had a 0.9 despite a bad season of hitting but enough defense to somewhat overcome it. I hold out hope that Avi Garcia has a positive WAR in him when he becomes the hitter he should be and improves enough defensively. Adam LaRoche had a 2.2 which will be hard to duplicate being another year older past his prime and mostly DH'ing but it's a start towards adding more talent to the roster. I'd feel much more comfortable with the Sox having a 20 WAR amongst the position players which means better defense and better offense. The Tigers, Royals and Giants all had 20.2- 20.5. A 4 WAR guy who plays good D and hits well would be wonderful but a 3.0 would still be a huge boost to this lineup. Melky has ranged from 3.1 to 4.7 in 3 of the last 4 years. Saunders best was his 2.4 in his limited playing time last year but is entering his prime. Rasmus had a 4.6 as recently as 2013 and generaly has ranged from 1.5 -3.6 in 4 other years is also entering his prime but we are aware of his problems. The Sox were outscored by 100 runs last year and only have a "Big Two" in Sale and Quintana. A serious contender needs a "Big 3" at the very least. Rodon could be that player but chances are it won't be 2015. Another quality SP and closer will have the biggest influence on wether the Sox contend in 2015. Right now the next move(s) need to be high quality pitching. I win
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) An underrated aspect about acquiring Samardzija is that he's a huge name in the Chicagoland area, and he's someone that I think fans would go out to watch pitch (oh great, more ND fans at Sox games) Hey nothing wrong with that. Gotta remember when the original Mayor Richard J Daley was around being Irish in Chicago was a huge deal and the middle class (basically a ton of south side White Sox fan city workers ) looked to ND as the symbol of having their children do better than they did. Those city workers are all retired now but their children went to college and were the original Yuppies and inherited their love of the Sox.
  15. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) Oh my god yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Go clean up .
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 12:05 PM) They are similar offensive players but I will take age 31 ,32 seasons over age 36,37 seasons plus money saved over the 2 years. Having Moss would've also meant we are officially done with Viciedo . Edit : You also used LaRoches' last 3 seasons of OPS but used Moss last 2 then one from 2009 when he was 25 and had 385 AB's had a .304 OBP and .668 OPS instead of his age 28 season when he was clearly a much improved hitter who had a .358 OBP and .954 OPS because he only had 265 AB's.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) We could have used them both, though, I think. True but Rabbit originally said he would have liked Moss more than LaRoche so thats what we were discussing, Moss vs. LaRoche .
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) I like LaRoche better. Moss has really only had 3 full seasons for various reasons with OPS at 668,859 and 772. LaRoche has many more seasons and his last 3 were 853, 735 and 817. For the next 2 years I like LaRoche better. They are similar offensive players but I will take age 31 ,32 seasons over age 36,37 seasons plus money saved over the 2 years. Having Moss would've also meant we are officially done with Viciedo .
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) Decent prospects don't typically amount to much in the MLB. I really haven't seen anything that really makes me think the sox will miss Semien or Sanchez compared to a proven MLB pitcher. They could be decent bench players or a starter in the Beckham mold, but I think those players would be worth the chance of getting JS long term. Besides as I've said I think Rameirez is going to be the center piece of any trade. The A's really don't need Semien or Sanchez. They have better utility/borderline starting prospects. Really the only place we are differing is I don't think the Sox get Shark long term. Guess we'll have to wait how it all plays out. Again.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) Well I don't But really, I just want it resolved so we can figure out how the A's take way too much from the White Sox again while they seemingly give away guys like Donaldson and Moss to the opposition for jacksquat. Hey if the Sox do lose Semien ,which you would be upset about ,how would you feel if the Sox re-signed Gordon Beckham as Semien's replacemnt ? After all Gordon hit lefties for a .293 BA last year and might even play a better 3rd base than Marcus
  21. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:10 AM) No go on Minoso Sigh Sucks.
  22. That was exactly the position I took in the Moss thread.
